IGN is all like:
Meh, I really don't think IGN is vindicated here. It was still shoddy journalism on display. It was reported as "official" when it clearly isn't. But it's also silly to act as though the insinuation that the game is no longer in development is laughable nonsense when you have nothing substantial to show to prove otherwise.

I understand your position and thank you for your post. Yes, I am fully aware that TLG got stuck pretty bad and had to be re-worked, maybe multiple times, but since this is now one of the most famous games and people have been asking for it for years then it is in Sony's best interest to release it, if only for the sake of honour. If they were to cancel TLG now they would lose face and Microsoft, Nintendo and other companies would immediately start their campaign of "we keep our promises, our games are real". So, they can't really afford to cancel it, they will work on it and release it and maybe they will not get their money's worth until the 3rd re-release for PS6, but they will still work on it and have it released one day.
I think you vastly overestimate the importance of this title. I think the reaction of the game-playing populace at large to the sad news that The Last Guardian has been cancelled would be one of "What is/was The Last Guardian?"
Stage 4: Bargaining
I was really hoping to see it in some form this year. Lost an avatar bet because of it. Please do not judge me by my avatar.
Firstly, what I was angling at is was your original post insinuating that atheism is directly analogous to not believing in the existence of The Last Guardian? Because that's what I took from it.
Secondly, all fun and jokes aside, I don't think that it's impossible to believe that the project still exists in the sense that there is some money and personnel making -- or at least attempting to make -- progress. However, we've seen projects enter into development hell before. Sometimes, they eventually resurface. Sometimes, they are even completed. However, after a certain period of time with nothing to show for it, I think you have to expect that some people are going to become a little pessimistic about the outlook of the project.
Maybe some of us are bad people by having some fun with the situation. But the flip side is that "how can you not believe that this is still a thing when people are telling you that it's still a thing!? What prove could you possibly need!? There's a person telling you that it's still in development! Case closed!" is also not a strong position here. You know how you silence the people laughing? You show the game. You put a controller in someone's hand and let them play it. Barring that, you can really only let those having a hearty laugh have their fun and hope they eventually get their comeuppance.
Yes. And Ned Stark was going to be sent to The Wall.

Given that we received an outright answer stating it was still in development, I don't think there's much question. It's still in development, but that development is clearly not going well. And the fact that they still had nothing to share? Man, who could blame people for getting pessimistic?
Look on the bright side, Last Guardian faithful. This most likely means the game will have a full shift to next-gen, like XV. There's something to be said for that, right? Right?
unfortunate thread title change :/
At this rate, they won't ever get to the Stage 5: Acceptance. Its an eternal cycle of 1 to 4 then go back again to 1. LOL.
We're using the 7 stage model to accommodate their behaviour, sadly few are making it out the other end.
TLG-GAF is like this:
Yes I agree with almost all of this. The only place we probably won't see eye to eye is the highlighted part. Since they are developing the game and they actually know its status, its not just a "strong position" its the only position. Any other position is opinion, rumor or otherwise.
This is a new stage of grief, between shock and denial... Insanity
Yeah, that development is utterly tortured, and it when it's released it will not be a single, clean vision, but a mish-mash of years of different evolutions and conflicting ideas all slammed together.
I'd like to think these developers are more competent than the Duke Nukem team, but then again given what I've seen from SE lately that's very likely misplaced faith.
Man.... Fuck. Sony needs to get this game out the door ASAP. It's been far too long.![]()
Yes, they created one of the best game in PS2 era, but we have many "silent" artsy game from indi today, it's not unique anymore
I just woke up and saw this thread title. Laughing my head off and still half asleep lol - what a weird feeling.
(I really thought this was the year)
It happens a lot in development when someone asks me how my current assignment is coming along. Now, my assignments are smaller in scale than a video game, but let's say a big project might take me as long as a month. Two weeks in, I'm asked "how are you doing?" I say "I'm about 50 percent done." Sometimes, that estimation is wildly inaccurate. Maybe it's because I've been distracted. Maybe it's because the project is bigger and more complex than we've all assumed. But either way, let's just assume that I'm not actually on target.
Now, as the deadline approaches, it's very likely that someone is going to want to see something. Now, in my case, I will say that the project is indeed very real. I'd certainly get fired if I had literally nothing to show for it. But I do think sometimes things go off the rails. And sometimes, other projects will wind up taking priority. Now, imagine you're not my boss, but our client. Can you understand doubting our progress when I haven't actually demonstrated that there's a light at the end of the tunnel for this project? It doesn't matter that I have source code written and that I can assure you that some progress has been made. Maybe if I could just show some controlled examples of the interface in action, you'd be convinced. But as of now, I've got nothing. Do you understand why our assurance that the project will be completed isn't very reassuring to the client?
That's mean xDIs that epic serving of crow still being worked on?
It's like ICO + a titan constantly on screen, and with the demands of decent physics, high resolution and frame rate on top of that. And then the insane attention to detail that they're known for that probably makes it even longer to finish the game.
And now a game from one of our studios in Japan. It's one of those games that really stands out from the crowd. A beautiful, elegant artistic creation.
The Last...*cough* excuse me, something in my throat. The last game on our list is The Last Ga *crowd erupts* Wow, thank you guys. The Last Garden.

Is this entire thread just a big in-joke? TLG is confirmed, and was also confirmed as not being at the conference ahead of time.
You'd think with the whole IGN scandal that they would at least show the game's title and logo during the conference if it was still coming. That would at least be something.
