Funny. Growing up I never really cared about him or any heel. I always rooted for the "good guys". After I grew up and saw real life interviews with Hotrod, it was like this huge epiphany. "Holy shit!! He IS one of the good guys!!!" His work ethic was amazing. Let himself be shit on to help over the guys the company/territory wanted to push, put in his time, and end result was constantly booed and hated by the fans in his heyday. When I finally found this out in interviews is the 2000s, I was just floored. Truly one of the top legends of the business, record/titles be damned.

So bummed.

Really gutted to see this news, yet another of the greats gone far too soon.

In a really bizarre coincidence as I have seen and am replying to this thread I happen to have the episode "Mac and Dennis Buy a Timeshare" of "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia" playing on the TV right now which Roddy Piper guest starred in...

Also for reasons I cannot explain, alongside memories of his incredible ring and microphone work over the years, one of the first things that that came to mind upon reading this thread was his appearance in this music video...

Farewell Hot Rod, you were truly one of the best.

I hated the man, and I loved to hate the man. I only knew him as Roddy Roddy Piper. He was a part of my childhood. Heel in Heaven. RIP.

So eerie... I was just randomly watching Hot Rod interviews on Youtube earlier today...from being on Rich Eisen recently (didn't look too good, but I didn't think much of it)....and older clips from the 80s.

I just expect these types of outcomes now a days of my childhood memories. :/

I haven't watched wrestling since I was a kid (I'm a product of the early 80s), but I remember Rowdy Piper.

All the wrestlers I grew up watching are dropping like flies. How did he die of natural causes at 61? Only read OP

RIP

I got to meet him not too long after he finally beat his cancer at a horror convention and got him to sign my copy of They Live. Since it was near the end of the day, I got to speak with him for a bit. Much nicer guy than I thought he would be. RIP Rowdy one.

RIP . They Live really was a meaningful movie to me when I first saw it as a young teenager. it's a goofy film but the message and ideas were really good. his wrestling career speaks for itself. 🙏🏽

Damn, what a crazy two weeks for the WWE.

Wow, what sad news. He was my first favorite pro wrestler. Growing up in the 80s always loved watching his matches. And a fun actor to watch too. RIP hot rod.

Awww man, this was why he was trending on Twitter earlier today then.

Now I'm really going to FINALLY start catching up with the years of wrestling I've missed, starting this weekend.

R.I.P.

Yeah my childhood has been getting destroyed lately. Crazy... Way to young.

Enjoy your time people and don't take it for granite. Easy to say harder to do.

It was surprising seeing him in Saints Row IV of all things, he was one of those wrestlers that made WWF (back when it was WWF) entertaining to watch.

RIP

A group wrestling shot- time to count the dead.

I'm seeing 13, Randy Savage counted twice

I counted the following 12:

Curt Hennig
Randy Savage
Hercules Hernandez
Roddy Piper
Owen Hart
Dusty Rhodes
Dino Bravo
Randy Savage
Andre
Big Boss Man
Bad News Allen
Ultimate Warrior

I can't tell if the guy to the right of Honky Tonk Man is Kerry Von Erich or Greg Valentine, though. Leaning towards the former because of what looks like a fake leg. Is that your 13th?
