it's always the really talented actors...how ironic, a toku show propels them to popularity but then they can't play the role that pretty much rockets them to stardom. It's not their fault but...ugh.

Now that I think about it, there is relatively no strictly space Sentai. The closest was Flashman and even then it was more of a recurring character background than the actual theme.

Playing Genesis on my Vita. Fairly fun - disappointed that I can't just stay in Ultimate forms longer than a few seconds and some of the characters feel limited as fuck, but it's hitting all the fanboy parts in me.

I almost feel compelled to say yes. Both shows have their weird problems, but I feel Wizard had higher highs and lower lows while Ghost was mostly middling.

Changeman design was very space inspired too, with the Shuttle Base, and some plot points, but it wasn't the main point of the series. Bioman had some light elements, but it was pretty much because of Platet Bio.
I hope it's either something new, or a modern take on sentai from that era. Zyuohger is a step on the right way, I feel, but Sentai needs a bigger shakeup - be it something new or a return to its roots.
At least I hope for better villains. The Deathgallien got weak ass after the first 10 or so episodes, got a bit better with The World, and then has done nothing since Bunglay showed up.

Heh, I really enjoyed the implications of Zoo 29.
not only Gokaiger didn't overtake the ep, it showed that the current team can actually stand on their own, and even showed that Yamato was pretty strong
usually even with a balanced crossover, you'd have one team still being above the other, usually the older one

The BFJ Mecha even has all the weapons the mecha gets from nowhere, hahaha. This is great.
Zyuohger 27-29 = why is this show so good and, damn, keep coming back you pirates. Super Sentai Hero getter is the best, been singing it the whole week.

This is where I complain about how a lot of GREAT tracks from the Wizard OST were used once or twice the whole show.
Pretty sure I made a somewhat long post about this in one of the older threads. It was really flashy, different from any other toku with all the flips, multiple sword styles, the need to focus in different types of strikes (elbow and palms) thanks to the main toy (rings), and, at the early parts of the show, they conveyed a lot about each element and character through it. Everything was thrown under the bus for random flip kicks while reverse handling the sword after 15-20ish episodes though. Still looked better than the average modern Rider but yeah, it was all flash and no substance. (Then Infinity happened and what the hell, they still made that look like the most overpowered final form ever.)

DragoTimer is really good, generally the Dragon form fights are great.
I actually like the way Mugen Ghost fights when he's weaponless. Or just when he phases around just to show his ghostly concepts. But when he took out a weapon it's just the usual gorilla swings.

technically SPD sorta did it with Doggie being more focus than Ban but yeah.
From what I heard the tsunami caused more appearances than what they planned.
garo hd seems pretty bare bones outside of giving garo armor a bit more reflection.
I still wish they'd mix it up a bit. They are running out of ways of showing how humanity is terrible and miserable!
They also need to bring back some 'power ups' again like the first season had the horse, giant sword, and the cape?

Garo is the only "adult" toku. Early Heisei Kamen Rider messed in the fringes of kids-to-adult, but right now, Garo is it.

Kuuga had people dying on screen and some even deal with the consequences, not to mention Grongi straight up kill people for shit and giggles. If not for Godai's overwhelmingly positive attitude I'd say it's strictly for adult.
You don't have much choice in Tokusatsu series aimed at adult audience (as opposed to Tokusatsu adults can enjoy). On top of my head, in the last 10 years we have:
- Garo series
- Akibaranger which is much more niche adult
- Ultraseven X which nobody remembers
- Gouraigan which is kinda middling?
- Kamen Rider Amazons
I might miss some series and didn't include movies like Gatchaman or Cutie Honey.
Out of them, only Garo is long lasting and Amazons showed prospect of a long series (if they are interested in making a spinoff rider show for adults).

I honestly think that's why Amazons is doing so well. Nothing much out there.
In the Kuuga/Agito/Ryuki/Faiz era, you could sort of squint and ignore the toys and whatnot. Blade and the first half of Hibiki are transitionary, with a foot in both sides. Kabuto on, the shows really embrace the toyetic nature and drop many of the soap opera aspects. The only real difference seems to be the TV Asahi producer, but I can't really speak to any strong changes behind the scenes. NeonZ is more versed in that detail.

People dying is pretty common in toku though, even in Sentai back then
I just feel it's more of a style of them being soaps, hence why you could ignore the toys

I haven't bought Sentai mecha toys myself, but do they always come as a set or separate?
The initial combination are always a set, after that it's separate. Keep in mind that some, like Zyuohking, only comes with the very initial combo, in this case Cube 1-2-3.

ToQ had one power up shared by all the members... but Red used it the most, so it wouldn't surprise me if people forget that.
And then he had those alternative forms on the last few episodes... Yeah.
Ninnin also had the same thing, but 99% of the time it was red using the power up. In both series, the girls didn't really get to use the power up, unless it was for a joke.

depends. the only sentai mech i got was gobuster, and every single piece was separate, although i think you can get them in bundles too.

well to be fair C01's its own mecha like Dairanger, so i guess there's that. And that each of the mecha G02 and R03 can transform into their own thing.
I wish more Sentai have that armament style mecha.
Speaking of which, DaiZyuJin/Classic MegaZord is overrated, DaiRenOh/Thunder MegaZord is better

I like both. Got both 'legacy' figures.
Gobusters was soo good, where each form had its purpose and is used fairly frequently across the show.
Still bitter it never made it to the US. It's in the same discarded bin as ToQ, and that ain't right.

Listening to all the Sentai openings today, I'm surprised how great a run of openings we had there for a bit.
The openings for Shinkenger, Goseiger, Gokaiger, Go-Busters OP 1, Kyoryuger, and Toqger, are all above-average to great.
