Tom Brady's Suspension Appeal News

The NFL and players Union needs to get together and make base punishments for all criminal/cheater actions imaginable.

This punishment should not equal Greg Hardy's punishment. Adding on how poorly the Ray Rice situation was handled.

Once base punishments have been established make the document public knowledge so everyone knows the standard punishment if Tom Brady, or Mr. irrelevant commit a punishable offense.

Sports fans are so odd to me.

It clearly invokes a tribal instinct for many people, which explains both the post you quoted and the general circling of the bandwagons for a persecuted member of the tribe (even if that persecution is completely justified).

We've had similar things happen to many community threads, whether they be about Football or League of Legends or whatever. Sometimes, those threads become increasingly insular and hostile to those they perceive as "outsiders." Then one of the tribe members gets banned and they circle the wagons, protesting the ban of their bro, and we end up having to do a mass account execution on occasion. This has happened far more often than you would imagine.

You can't simultaneously argue he wouldn't have destroyed his phone for privacy concerns and that he definitely destroyed it to hide evidence he ordered or knew of the deflating of footballs.

I think everyone is arguing he destroyed it to hide evidence. Seems pretty straightforward.

Not surprised. 4 games or 1 game it doesn't matter, his legacy is tarnished forever, so why would he settle for a lesser punishment? He's going to do whatever it takes to try and completely absolve himself of any wrongdoing as any punishment at all crushes his image.

Another thread where sour grapes make people think that some slightly underinflated balls had any effects on the outcome of anything.

Winners win.

I agree with you. I don't like the Pats, but I don't care at all what the PSI of the ball is. Couldn't care less.

Having said that, it's still a rule, so it's still cheating. Take the punishment and move on. This crap makes the team look worse than breaking the rule did.

He's not being punished the 4 games for deflating the balls he's being punished the 4 games because he actively hindered the attempted investigation.

you mean not handing over his cell phone? pretty sure employees within the NFL did the same fucking thing regarding who saw/had the ray rice tape.

like I said with the season that the NFL just had we're going to cheer them on over something they enabled? no, I'm going to use it as yet another example of this organization's incompetence.

It also happens on the persecutor side, which it certainly is now. The strength of the evidence is irrelevant in this case as guilt was determined the moment the accusation was laid. The Wells Report is middle school science fair reject bad.

as someone who isn't a Pats fan it's not that he did it, it's that the punishment is hilariously stupid. give out a fine and be done with it. it's obvious the NFL didn't give a single fuck about the weight of the footballs or else it wouldn't have happened in the first place. the recent rule changes regarding the process is evidence to that fact.

also lol at comparing a deflated football to driving under the influence of alcohol and cocaine with a stripper in the back

one of those things is completely trivial and I'll leave you to wager which one that is

after the season that the NFL as an organization just had and Goodell's history I'm not sure why so many are cheering them on for this. people let their hate for the Pats get the best of them and I say that as someone who's team (Panthers) had their only superbowl appearance ruined by them.

lol i was being fairly obviously hyperbolic not actively comparing.

and like others have said, its not that he deflated footballs, its that he covered shit up isnt it?

if he didnt deflate the balls, and complied with the investigation, hed be in the clear, am i wrong?

thats what i dont get. brady plays ball (lol), and all this goes away. but he didnt. and now pats fans are mad at the nfl?

You know what fuck the league fuck Brady fuck bill fuck it all...its a fucking circus and ruins the look of the game. The WWE is less drama filled, lol

The whole of NFL is dodgy with murderers, domestic abuse, etc etc so not really surprising really. The NFL is probably worse then FIFA and that is saying something.

They weren't the police conducting a criminal investigation. I wouldn't want my phone with all of my private information in the hands of the NFL either. That organization leaks like a sieve.

The evidence against him and the patriots is laughable, and people only think it's any good because they like a different sports team. The whole thing is so childish and sad to watch. Just look at this thread.
The players did this to themselves due to the CBA.

He refused to fully cooperate.

I'm sorry, but does Tom Brady use an old-school flip phone or some shit? Since when do people not end up with a new phone that still has the old shit on it because you did a transfer? Especially someone at his level, he wouldn't make sure everything involving texts, pics, and contacts moved over to the new phone? Bullshit.

Tends to happen when there is precedent within the same organization.

Except that is not the case at all. They had tapes and refused to turn them over to the public because they knew the mass hysteria that did, in fact, happen, would happen. And wanted the process to play out first.

I look forward to Tom's texts being exposed through a subpoena.

Doesn't have to be a criminal case when an employer is defending its right to suspend an employee for what amounts to gross misconduct.

I get the us/them mentality to an extent, but to actively state 'our' like you were on the team is just so weird to me. Really had no idea communities had that big of a problem with it here.

well this is literally what happened according to the report:

brady says he destroys all old cell phones.
brady destroys cell phone investigators want, cause thats what he says he does.
brady did NOT destroy previous cell phone, which goes against what hes saying.

that just sounds suspicious.

I live in New England. I'm not a Patriots fan. Watching them go NUTS because they actually got caught cheating—and punished—is hilarious, but it's also so tiring. Like, move on. You'll be okay.

They're nowhere near as terrible as Penn State alumni.

Did you understand what I said? If you argue he destroyed it to hise evidence, you can't then say he had no reason to be worried about privacy.

Yeah I understand it. You are putting forward a convoluted argument that no one is touting, as a strawman. Everyone is saying he destroyed it to hide evidence, nothing more.

So he destroyed the phone that contained he evidence?

Commissioner Roger Goodell, in affirming the suspension he handed down in May, said new information about the destruction of Brady's cell phone showed the four-time Super Bowl champion "sought to hide evidence of his own participation in the underlying scheme to alter the footballs.

The destruction of the cell phone wasn't disclosed until June 18, almost four months after investigators had requested electronic information from Brady."

LOL... no wonder it's upheld: http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/28/us/tom-brady-deflategate-suspension-upheld/index.html

This is what happens in twitter world.

I would love to see past great teams have to live in the current media and social media society, would be interesting to see.

The more he flails the guiltier he looks.

Oh well, as long as some still believe him I guess it is worth it for him. When it's conclusively proven and he denies they will still think his story is the truth.

Dunno. I just dislike cheating. Probably because I, and my teams, never have the balls to do it, and so rarely do the punishments matter. Why not cheat? It just makes sense to take advantage when possible.

Do you not follow sports often? Nobody actually thinks they're on the team, it's just how sports fans talk. The teams and fans have a very intrinsic relationship.

What? Of course that's being argued. Your line of reasoning must refute the obvious response that he destroyed it to keep his private phone out of the hands of the NFL. You couldn't possibly blame someone for feeling that.
