Gameplay doesn't look like that

Don't have permission to make new threads yet, but this seems like an OK place to ask: can somebody explain to me how/if the Xbox One's always online gives it an advantage over the PS4 when it comes to MMO's like this? Or are they about equal in that you turn the game on and connect?

Correct, it was a PS4 controller. Light bar was in orange when they showed him holding the controller.

could be connected to the pc. or he was just "pretending to play". both things have happened multiple times at E3 i'm sure.

looks fantastic though. and if this plays like the trailer suggests then I really hope there's a dope community for it on GAF. because i'd love to play this with some people.

Pretty sure I saw the guy holding a PS4 controller whilst playing it.

"Press ESC to exit full screen mode" is what that says I think

#1 Has anybody actually said what hardware it was running on, or is it just guesses at this point?

#2 The press release mentions Xbone and PS4 but no mention of the PC*

#3 Isn't a PS4 dev kit technically a PC anyway?

UBISOFT® ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF NEW NEXT-GENERATION TITLE TOM CLANCY'S THE DIVISION™

Company Bringing Pioneering Online Open-World Action Role Playing Game to Tom Clancy's Universe

LOS ANGELES – June 10, 2013 – Today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft announced the development of Tom Clancy's The Division, a groundbreaking online, open-world Action RPG for Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation® 4 computer entertainment system. The Division will arrive in 2014.

Tom Clancy's The Division is developed by Massive™ Entertainment, the Sweden-based Ubisoft studio renowned for the World in Conflict® series.

The Division takes place in New York three weeks after a lethal virus, released on Black Friday, has swept through the city. One by one, basic services have failed. Society has collapsed into chaos. The President invokes Presidential Directive 51, and The Division, a top-secret unit of self-supporting tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives, Division agents are trained to operate independently of command in this type of emergency situation. When the lights go out, their mission begins.

In a Tom Clancy's universe dedicated to realism, players can explore the once-familiar streets and landmarks of the Big Apple, now decimated by looting and overrun by clans that will do anything to survive. From Central Park to the subway to the Statue of Liberty, nowhere is safe. Discover a persistent, online, open-world New York where exploration, combat, and RPG player-progression are essential.

"Our goal with Tom Clancy's The Division is nothing short of completely changing the way people play online RPGs," said Fredrik Rundqvist, executive producer, Ubisoft. "With the power of next-gen consoles behind it, The Division puts players in the middle of breathtaking, persistent multiplayer thriller in which they will explore, fight and work together as modern society collapses around them, all with the authenticity for which Tom Clancy's games are renowned."

The game is the latest title set in the Tom Clancy's™ universe, which has sold more than 76 million games worldwide across its different franchises. Other forthcoming Tom Clancy's-branded experiences from Ubisoft include Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Blacklist™ developed by Ubisoft Toronto, which delivers a gripping modern-day special-ops storyline with a new level of technical innovation and quality. My fear is that we have seen is a carefully crafted cross-section. There is nothing built behind it and it exists as a "proof-of-concept" for Ubi. This wouldn't be the first, I remember that one of the AC3 demo featured stuff that the full game never had.

I do hope that a PC version is announced down the road. It would be a shame to miss out on what seems to be a great concept.

I'm not really feeling this one. The graphics are amazing and I love how they incorporated the HUD, especially the minimap, but as far as the gameplay goes is anyone really getting excited? It looks like third person cover shooter meets MMO raiding. The enemies appeared to be bullet sponges that bleed numbers, and I saw the player named Megan do some sort of remote healing which made me think this is going to be typical Tank, Damage, Healer MMO stuff.

The plot is interesting enough at least. If this is indeed free to play then don't see why not to at least give it a try (especially early on when our 500 GB is mostly free space).

I thought exactly the same when watching the video. Hopefully I'm wrong.

To me it looks like Ubi's trying to (partially) cater people who are interested in some of the basic concepts of DayZ but aren't willing to go through the 'hassle' of getting DayZ running or are put of by the simple graphics. I don't mind and I'd be pretty happy if the comparisons aren't just PR fluff. Same seems to happen with elements of Dark Souls being copied by other devs.

Not sure why you're pointing out a message that wasn't in the live demo.

I'm hyped as hell for this game. Open world pvp was my favorite thing to do when I used to play WoW and when the demo ended with "another group of players, brace for pvp", I was like "DAY F'N 1"

I don't see how there would be any advantage. Obviously if you wanted to play this or another MMO on the PS4 you would need to be connected to the internet. Just because the Xbone requires it every 24 hours doesn't give it any distinct benefits for these types of games, as far as I can tell.

Kinda silly for people to think the ps4 could be pushing those graphics to begin with.

Pretty sure they wen't all out on the rig too. GTX titan inside with a heavily overclocked cpu.

are there any more good articles/ interview/ videos about this? I'm eager too know how the MMO/ online is going to work exactly in this. I've just saw the one from Ubi's conference.

That looks like the .GIF was made with a YouTube video, the "Press ESC to exit full screen mode" doesn't show up on any video.

Calling it right now. That picture of the guy from behind is a bullshot. Game will not look nearly what people are hoping for.

Um, the icon is from the video player....

And silly the PS4 could push those graphics why? Though the overall picture looks amazing, there is nothing in that video that is unrealistic for PS4 hardware.

How is this still floating around, it takes like a minute to pull up the actual demonstration and double check

Why are people pointing to a youtube video and a youtube caption as proof that its running on PC? Good lord.

*edit*
Already been mentioned I see.

Its a direct screen grab from the live demo.

Some people are funny.

"Doesn't look very good, next-gen is disappointing I really expected more"

"This looks too good, can't be running on consoles, must be PC"
