Tom Henderson: Beyond Good & Evil 2 is suffering a development crisis and it's just a matter of time before it gets canceled.

There's no corroboration yet but several people he spoke believe the game is going to get canceled.

Skull and Bones, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia remastered, and now BG&E2. It seems to me that any games that Ubisoft can't force their open world formula into just become a development struggling, lmao.

Rayman Origins/Legends died for this. After so long I'm guessing most of the staff/spirit that made those 2 is long gone.

It had barely anything to do with BG&E anyway.

First was narrative driven linear action adventure with open world hub world n ended up on a promise of a trilogy.

This was failed live service experiment using the setting of the first one.

Well no shit. There was nothing particularly marketable about this. And the first one wasn't exactly a smash hit, for the few people that even remember it. The sequel only got greenlight due to Ancel's power within the company. With him gone, how did anyone expect this would survive.

Yeah, no shit. It's always been total vaporware. Bin it.

I'd have loved for this game to be a success. I played the original for the first time ever last year. It's been on my "to buy" list since launch and been on my "to play" list since the HD version launched on PS3. Incredible game and had me highly anticipated for the next installment. I'd rather have nothing at all than a bad game, but it just sucks that it seems harder and harder for a game like Beyond Good and Evil to see the light of day in today's climate.

I imagine what is difficult for developers is that they have a perfectly clear idea for a 12-15 hour single player game, but everything has to be turned into an ongoing, drawn out behemoth.

Good. Cause compared to the first game it was beyond recognition.

I loved the first. But this one had none of the charm.

I mean the game that was essentially trying to get people to work on it for free just for the opportunity to "maybe" get paid is going down? I can't say I'm too sad about that.

It didn't look like a Beyond Good and Evil game anyway. It looked more like, well, what it is. An overly ambitious tech demo with no ideas, concept, or clear identity.

They bit off more than they could chew.
I wish the project was officially greenlighted ten years ago; maybe then they would have had a more realistic plan for it.

Anyway, the original is still a masterpiece. I'm glad it's still playable on current-gen Xbox and PC.

In other news: water is wet and ice is cold.

The project was doomed from inception anyway.
Prequel, wrong. Open world, wrong. Always online, wrong. Just make a linear story thing that takes place after the events of the first game, you idiots.

Good. That trailer was unbelievably shitty.

You want to peddle your woke bullshit, make your own cast and universe, don't stain someone else's

Game was always trying to be a open world in my view. Hell go even further open worlds.

What they showcased was absolute fantastic finally a move forwards. However it always felt like a tech demo without any direction sadly.

Not THAT difficult to see when a game is overly ambitious..........why is it taking so long to get canceled even?

Ugh, it looked so cool when they showed it a few years ago.
Then again, today's ubisoft would just turn it into some GaaS bullshittery so nothing of value would be lost I guess.

I haven't seen too many people excited about the direction they were going in with the game, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was canceled or rebooted. Just give us something akin to the original game with prettier graphics.

After the first showing, I was excited for this but as time progressed it felt more and more this was going to be trashed. Definitely moving closer to the trash bin.

Yes they made a lot of progress, but for what they were aiming for they were still years away from getting anywhere near the finishing line.
