Tom Henderson: Ubisoft recently canceled a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws

I thought they had some license type thing where they wouldn't even get an option for a sequel for poor sales. I'm like, 90% sure some clause exist were the game must actually do some certain numbers for future contracts or something.

It's comical how mismanaged Star Wars has been, in a gaming context since Disney acquired it.
Might have contributed to the enshittification of the license.

If the sequel starred a male or female, and improved the armor/weapon side of things they'd be in a good place.

This reminds me I have to finish Jedi: Survivor, was enjoying it well enough, some great funny little characters like the frog guy kept me going, did this game even have that?

The environments looked fantastic but gameplay was dull af, especially the shooting. Montages of the subpar AI behaviour really soured I think.

If that's the case, they probably started working on it right at the end of Outlaws' development and when they saw the sales wouldn't meet their expectations, they pulled the plug.

Good.

One less game for an IP that's been mostly mediocre for the past 8 years.

Also one less licensed Hollywood game. The industry's been getting swarmed with a lot of those these days; less licensed games = more sensible dev costs = less overpriced Hollywood talent = less Hollywood politics proliferating in Western AAA gaming.

And less money for Disney, which I'm generally always happy with these days 👍

Star wars as a brand has stunk since disney bought them. They keep making and more and more star wars shows that bomb because they suck ass and they keep trying to spam movies that no one cares about because they just gotta milk the IP till the utters are dried up permanently. The last good star wars movie/product was revenge of the sith and everything after that was a gigantic turd.

Game is stunning at times but mechanics were broken at launch. Also making the protagonist one of the ugliest fucking characters this side of a womp rats ass didn't help. Amazing how you can get so much wrong in a game and yet put so much quality work into the world. It's a Ubisoft game through and through.

I do not understand why they made a SW game that didn't include lightsabers.
They could have gone with a random name and it would have been rhe same thing minus the royalties.

Good point, they could have been working on it before Outlaws release now that I think about it. Pre-production could have already started like a year prior or something

Either way, I feel the cancel is due to Disney's licensing agreement needing some unit amount to support future titles.

Shame. The game had a lot of potential even if they flubbed some of it.

I really liked how they went with a 70s fashion Star Wars. Women were pretty ugly back then but it was a marketing mistake to make someone like that the main character.

I got a new ps5 physical copy for 18 doliroos a few weeks ago.

Let's see how many suckers will pay the full AUD90 (60 USD) when the Switch 2 version releases in September.

Thank goodness if this or Marvel IP reduce, I feel like I'm forced to play 'generic popular American brand' even if many people worldwide have no interest in these.

And Disney takes almost half the profits for doing nothing, from Sony-Microsoft-Square Enix Marvel games, to EA-Ubisoft Star Wars games.

Imagine if the protagonist in the first would've been Han Solo and the sidekick Chewie. Wouldn't have fixed the gameplay problems but they really messed up selling this one to the fanbase.

Lol wut ??? Beauty is not a modern thing buddy 😅 ...

I tried the demo yesterday, I couldn't even finish that. I almost bought it at 50% sale but no way now. Maybe at 90% one day when I will have nothing to play. But I guess that will never come.

I ll just say this, any Star Wars game that doesnt have a light saber and force power as combat its doomed to fail.
This makes me sad, i like starwars because of the troopers and mandalorians :/ but kind of agree on Your point. Since even battlefront still had lighrsabers.
