Interesting that MSI was next before Lenovo
I thought he was on a weeks long break?
So it's basically a prep-work for Xbox PC down the line.
The device will run a more locked down Windows 12? Sure. However, we don't yet know if the Xbox Full Screen Experience is what will run on the Consoles. XFSE is designed for handhelds, it may not translate well to large 4k screens, readability issues etc.Yes it's the "console style experience layered on top of Windows 11" Jez Corden described below
Any Windows device will be able to run it one day

MS could simply use the existing Xbox OS Shell as an Overlay. Basically tailor different experiences for different form factors.
I think Dell (Alienware) and HP (Omen) will likely join once Intel/Nvidia APUs release and the handheld form factor matures. Or they skip straight to Qualcomm handhelds for differentiation. Alienware UFO concept handheld was introduced to CES 2020, 2-3 years before the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Not sure if related to this, but MSI was the other company besides ASUS that I know was interested in doing "Xbox PCs"

As for Xbox PCs, Dell even sells Xbox games and accessories, I'm sure they will join in.
I'm not talking about Xbox OS, I'm talking about the Shell that creates the UI/UX. Xbox OS is simply Windows NT kernel, and the shell. They could just add that shell onto Windows 12. The GDKX games run inside a Type 1 hypervisor (low level VM). So doesn't matter which OS runs the games as its all controlled by the Windows NT kernel.XboxOS dies with Xbox Series consoles.
You're over complicating this. XFSE on Win11 is the one size fits all gaming UI going forward for handhelds, desktops and their so called "console".
Ooh, I should give this a shot too. Already have the battery mod and 2TB drive.I installed it on my og rog ally z1e. I like it. It's better than the default windows but you do still have Asus armoury crate which is weird. Though games icons from steam are tiny weird icons inside a bigger grey box in the xbox app. If I can get proper box art that would be great. System does seem snappier over all. Easy to switch apps and games if needed. Weirdly the black level and contrast seem better too, as if the hdmi range was mismatched before.
Oh and when I push the power button the system sleeps and wakes up properly even mid game so you can resume where you left off which is great. Did a 74w battery mod at the same time and it feels like I have a new handheld![]()
The new updates that MS and Asus has done to Armory Crate and Windows makes my ROG Ally X much more intuitive and console like. It's very easy now to boot into Steam or Gog, control almost every aspect with the controller, turn it off or put it in hibernate. Booting into Big Picture straight from the controller is really nice and makes dealing with Windows a tad bit better. You can also access the control panel with the controller and mess around with your power profiles and settings, which makes docked play on tv or monitor so much better. They aren't quite there yet but the new UI and interface is leagues better than what it was previously. Huge improvement![]()
I found the experience the reverse really on the Rog Xbox Ally X
It's so well designed that installing SteamOS on no matter which Win11 handheld gives you a 30% performance boost.XFSE is designed for handhelds, it may not translate well to large 4k screens, readability issues etc.
That 30% number was misinformation by a clueless youtuber who didn't mention the bug in bazzite, but ok.It's so well designed that installing SteamOS on no matter which Win11 handheld gives you a 30% performance boost.
Here, I found a super secret document describing the difference between XFSE and Windows:

If they can get it to a good enough state by 2027 that it retains a decent amount of performance back, that'd be swell.

The most interesting part isAll Windows devices will soon have this option once Windows 11 25H2 update releases, it's just a toggle in Settings.
This "game mode" is long overdue.FSE is a controller-first mode that boots straight into the Xbox PC app instead of the standard Windows desktop. The interface is designed for small handheld screens and aims to keep navigation simple, while Windows reduces background processes and defers non-essential tasks to free up resources for games.
If I were Microsoft I'd mandate 4 back buttons like the steam deck for handhelds. Maybe even 1 track pad.How many buttons does the XFSE require? I assume you got Start Select and a third one that can be used to bring up the gamebar.
Seems like each manufacturer should have a tab in the gamebar for hardware specific stuff, led's controls, button remapping, yada yada.
But it's not working at all on Xbox Ally X? All the regular Windows processes are still there. This "game mode" is long overdue.

YT link?So why is Cyberpunk running better in Full Screen Experience on the same exact hardware?
YT link?
No, it's a testing Windows build for MSI devices (but you can install it yourself - https://www.neogaf.com/threads/tom-...s-in-the-coming-months.1689709/post-270961285)But it's not working at all on Xbox Ally X? All the regular Windows processes are still there.
