Because they have shitty friends that play on Xbox. I'd still not buy one even then though, pay more for worse experiences on every game. Not my idea of fun.

If friends play on Xbox it automatically makes them shitty? :(

I would also contend that the experiences are not worse on every game. Will the visuals ever be better on XB1, no I can't imagine so. But there is more to the experience than the visuals, and overall how one values the experience is subjective and unique to each gamer. Someone might prefer one controller over another, the overall platform experience around the game, etc.

But ya, if you are not playing on PC and you want the better visuals, PS4 would be your platform. If you want the best visuals, play on PC.

Is it really that bad? We know the PS4 is more powerful. Is 1080p/30 really that bad?

No but it's more telling of what will happen through this generation though it was expected. People act surprised that the PS4 version is better when we had 4 months worth of breaking down that the PS4 would be stronger.

Well that's certainly good enough if "something crazy" is truly a rare and unexpected phenomenon.

I just don't like to give outs for people to rationalize sub 30fps, as we've seen so many games unable to even keep to that target.

Killzone Shadowfall was supposed to be 60fps unless there was 24 AI at which point we'd see small drops. Yeah, no. And that was put out there early. Just like we're hearing about 60fps in the same breath we're hearing about dips. Which paints a less rosy picture.

I think we agree overall - you're making a specific technical point which I can appreciate.

Yea, I think we agree and it is mainly a pet peeve of mine. Games shouldn't go below 30fps.

EDIT:

And of course applying a framerate cap for this game at 30fps would actually increase input lag so Gies is of course factually incorrect in his statements.

Wow. I just don't understand why someone would buy an XB1 over a PS4. It makes no sense to me. Is love of Forza that strong?

So what if they do? Some people might want to because it has more games and features that appeal to them. Personally, I will end up with both but am actually considering the Xbox One first for the aforementioned reasons. Opinions and preferences vary.

Incoming games media to the rescue. "Frame rate doesn't matter. It's about the games". Even though it's the same game.

Another Dev not putting effort in the Xbox One version? Color me surprised..... :/

I bet it's the other way around. At least for the launch games seems like more time was spent on the XB1 version of games since development was more of a hassle.

GSG Flash

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
I wasn't too interested in this game before, but I am now, even at its stupidly high price. Looks like they're making good use of the PS4's power.

My PS4 is starving for games anyways so I might as well pick it up.

Don't worry guys, I'm on Gies-Watch

He is trying ANYTHING at this point.

"Uhh....uhhh...........controller lag! Whew"

How does this happen. We all know that the Xbox one is slightly less powerful but I'm beginning to think developers are just getting lazy. At least use the cloud to bump it up or something, I mean the graphics for this game aren't phenomenal so why is it set to 30 fps. Is it because (correct me if I'm wrong) the Xbox one is not super similar to a pc anymore. Idk I just won't a solid explanation. The Xbox one isn't weak so ehy the hell not!?

Good lord. It's like they can't believe it.

I'll be blunt. I'm happy the ps4 will be getting the better multiplatform games this gen. I've suffered enough on my ps3. When people upload 360 videos to youtube that look crisper and cleaner than you're ps3 version, you know you were on the shorter end of the stick... =/

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I have to ask, Does Rocket Chainsaw have any cred? It's the first time I heard of it as I am U.S. based.

If EatChildren posted it though I believe it to carry some weight.

If in the event it is untrue and both systems run at a locked 30fps can we blame a day one patch?

We're a fairly small Australian website made up of (myself included) mostly ex-PALGN editors/senior writers. PALGN went bust / we left around two years ago, and Rocket Chainsaw has only been around for that period.

The article is mine, and I was the one who chased it up. Whatever that means is up to you.

Hopefully not the last scoop!

This thread is awesome. What with Speed Blue and his achievements (brought to him by the Xbox One™ All-in-One Entertainment System!) cum Netflix to Gies' fake meltdown over unlocked fps.

God of War 3 had variable framerate and no/minimal tearing....

yeah come to think of it i remember being impressed with the smoothness but was certain it was 30fps. i didn't see much tearing with TLoU when my wife was playing it either, but then again i WAS leaving the room over and over to avoid spoilers.

speaking of which, she's probably going to play this before i do. she's been chomping at the bit to play a "real" PS4 game instead of just Sound Shapes or Just Dance.

I can't decide if you're making fun of me. But you're The_Monk, so I think you'd make it a little more obvious. :)

I'm not making fun of you at all, good sir! I was just stating what I caught in one of those Tweets you posted, that someone said "so tired of gaf. How much pre-launch stuff turned out wrong"

Just think of it this way guys.

For the xbox one version you are paying only $2 a frame.

PS4, $1 a frame.

Cap is $60

So how long before Microsoft start paying Devs to not make the PS4 version of games any better than the level they reach on the xbone?

Won't happen. The Xbox brand is already in hot water by investors/shareholders for not making them a ton of profit like with Windows & Office, & they want Xbox One to make a profit from day one. They'll most likely be upset if they learned that Microsoft were to blow all of their money on foolishness like this. And not only that, but it's also illegal.

Plus Microsoft has already spent close to $3 Billion on Xbox One on just about everything: Making of the system, games, controller, advertising, etc.

Ya that is crappy. It's why I stayed on the 360 until the end of 2009. The Ps3 had finally gotten a cadre of first party titles (and price drop) that enticed me to ditch my LIVE friends and move. Greatly pleased since then.

It's not bad if you consider it on its own.

But then, compare it to the PS4 version, and yeah, it's bad.

It comes back to the old "Oh there's hardly any difference between 30 and 60"

Half of the people who were in that camp have now switched sides.

Just thought I'd say, to those who missed out on the game last gen it's totally worth it at $60. Best game of 2013, imo. 60fps (on PS4) will justify your purchase at full price.

So everybody already knows the PS4 is more powerful than the X1, and yet everyone still seems so blown away when a multi plat game is better on the PS4? Lol.. I don't get it.

post-16981-Aubrey-Plaza-Wow-gif-Imgur-xP6m.gif

If this difference in framerate occurs for a last gen game with slight bumps in visuals, then what's going to happen with major multiplatform titles down the road?

The implications of this are so fucked.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
So should only the PS4 version be called "Definite version" now?
