Really? It's not like it needs a super computer to run the PC version at high settings with TressFX enabled (though Nvidia cards do struggle a bit with TressFX, as it hasn't been optimised for their cards) and it's far from the prettiest game around (some bits look really good, some bits look really ugly and the animations are horrible), so I thought it was a joke when they were talking like both versions were only 30fps, even with all the improvements.

Um you need a pretty freaking good computer to run this at Ultra settings plus TressFX. We have PC users here who have 680's and 7970's that have trouble keeping a steady 60 fps.

This game is not easy to run whatsoever at max settings.

Need more crushed blacks on the XB1 version.

I am actually surprised we are seeing such differences already between the two consoles. You'd figure launch games and a title such as TR are being rushed just to put out -anything- out there as the new owners will likely gobble it up. Devs not having the time or resources to make all that big of a difference or take advantage of hardware in any meaningful way.

Once devs really sink their teeth in, you will see even visual difference such as effects, and not just FPS or resolution differences

Unless you prefer to bury your head into the ground like a ostrich, the PS4 is obviously the more powerful console. We have kind of known this for several months.

To be fair, he did say high settings and not ultra (or ultimate).

It runs at like 40 FPS with tress on my 780 GTX, and like 45 on my friends 7870 with tress FX. This edition looks better and runs better

Also, all the PC pushers who were laughing at the PS4 not being able to run this game at 60fps because it's weak should get in here and eat some crow.

This is coming from someone who doesn't own a PS4, and does 90% of his gaming on a PC.

I'm not one of those people, but this doesn't mean anything. You gotta look at effects, textures, draw distances, arena sizes everything. Every console is weaker than a top-flight PC, but the PC is more expensive, especially at the beginning of a gen like this, so get what you want (ideally both!).

Sony is going to win this generation on price, not perceived power. If the systems can play the same multiplats, 90% of people won't care one way or another about 720p versus 1080p, or 60 fps versus 30 fps. They'll buy what their friends buy for COD or Battlefield.
I think it will be because of a combination of several factors: price, games, image, and power being the largest contributors. Most of the people I work with bought PS4s for any one of those reasons. To say that power makes no difference is not true in my experience, and I'm sure it impacts others as well.

All of those are above the PC version...

I was kinda sad seeing the PS4 was only 30fps, thank god that was wrong. Hopefully the framerate doesn't dip too often. There's no way I'm paying full price for this game again, but by the time I actually get a PS4 it should be cheap enough.

Next up: Destiny at 60 on PS4.

I hope so, I really do. This game doesn't look too graphically intensive so 1080/60 isn't too much to ask for right?

Glorious, but might need some jaggies.

Speaking of which, do we know if both the Xbox and PS4 versions are going to run at the same resolution? If so, why not reduce the Xbox resolution a bit to reach some framerate parity? Or is that just not the right tradeoff to make here?

we do know they are both 1080p. would a reduction of resolution from 1080p to 720p be enough to double the framerate from 30 to 60?

cant imagine thats the case, but if so, that would have been the right trade off IMO

mentioned in OP

Both builds are rendering at native 1080p resolution,

Both are 1080p native.

"Both builds are rendering at native 1080p resolution, and generally look the same in graphical effects"

I guess so.

I believe an underappreciated aspect of what's going on is that PlayStation 4 is the world's most powerful games console, and I think that is going to become increasingly apparent as time goes by. Even if titles are multi-platform, if the game experience is more responsive or more visually attractive on a certain platform, it definitely does play into the overall success.

Wait what? What am I missing, someone fill me in. Is Gies' weekly bullshit churning something to do with the differences here?
something something....30fps is better for control input than 60fps...something something
that pretty much sums it up

LOL

where is Albert anyway, is he ok?

Probably talking with his engineers.

In all seriousness though, all this proves is just how surprised MS had to have been February 22nd 2013. The Xbox team must have got collectively punched in the gut that night, because I don't think one of them saw that coming, and many like Albert and Major Nelson still didn't understand the significance of that until probably just recently. Even developers thought MS had the upper hand in every possible way before that date, and some afterwards claimed there wouldn't be a significant difference especially early. Yet here we are.

Tim Dog(e?) has yet to update his twitter for the last 5 hours, i assume he is from Europe, since we are just waking up now. I hope he is okay

He might go at Penello and Larry on Twitter, in ALL CAPS

This is hilarious. Have the PC version but it runs like crap. Will now pick it up on PS4.

I am looking forward to picking it up when it hits a lower price.

I played on my 5970 with ultra settings and TressFX and was hitting as low as 20 fps so this is a huge improvement. lol

You're joking right? It's actually the other way around. You get half the control input lag at 60fps.

In all honesty, my guess is he'd buy the Microsoft version of a multiplatform game irrespective of the differences. He'd find some reason or another to justify it.

If that isn't a joke account, that guy is the saddest thing I have ever seen.

Disappointed that the framerate isn't locked.

Still looking forward to playing the game though since I missed it on last gen.

So this news about the difference in Tomb Raider reminds me of Madden last gen (haha). PS3 came out after 360 and the game at 30 FPS while 360 had it at 60 FPS. Things have been switched now.

He is basically setting the ground work for the reviews..so he can get away with giving the same score to both versions of the game ..at least that's how it appears to me. The dude is going on and on about the unlocked framerate and how it affects the controls :S He is also saying that he will most likely get the xbone version because he likes the 'ecosystem'

I have no idea what this ecosystem is

Well it's supposed to be 1080p from the info we have, but that was the info that said 1080/30.

About dropping res and upping framerate, I'm sure it would help to some extent but it really depends where the bottlenecks are for how much benefit you would get, if 720p only gave you an extra 5fps because TressFX was the main resource hog, then it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Not bad. So this is a different tradeoff from the other big games. Interesting to see.

I think it shows CD saw the 1080p for their game more meaningful for the Xbox One version. Other games, shooters/fighters/racers in particular, will see the opposite happen because the 60 fps will be more beneficial to gameplay.

It's the same with me. They're the only developers who've stated that.. It's hard to believe them what more appearing in their E3 Presser.

I'm not expecting them to hold back the PS4 version, but I'm pretty sure they'll be spending lots of time trying to optimize the XB1 version instead of maximizing the PS4 version.

I'm a little more cynical that you. I think the framerate will be the same on both consoles, even though one console could have better framerates. I believe that statement was to offer an early explanation for what we will find out. I hope I'm wrong and that Sony send out their ICE team to 'help' (unquote).

Another Dev not putting effort in the Xbox One version? Color me surprised..... :/

Are you for real? Or are you a character?

Is this an Andy Kaufman-esque routine that only you are in on?

The PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox. Get over it.

If you can't find anything else of value in the console you swear allegiance to, than maybe you're on the wrong side.

(Even the concept of "sides" is juvenile.)
