Tomb Raider has gone gold! Hits nearly 800 fan art submissions.

YES! So freaking excited!

Kinda glad I bailed out on doing the OT. Why bother going to all that trouble just to have the usuals bitter suspects shit it up. Seriously, some of you guys need to ease up in Tomb Raider threads, its getting ridiculous now to the point of it being borderline trolling. Eh, whatever – I’m super excited and counting down the days. Can’t wait for the positive reviews and good sales to roll in.....the rage will be entertaining to see. This will be the game to make Lara Croft relevant again. Don't like the new direction the series is going in? Then piss off. Tomb Raider is no longer for you.

You're the worst kind of poster. I like games. Tomb Raider is a game. Therefore it should be for me. I have loved Tomb Raider since I was a teenager and this game has Tomb Raider on the title, so it's for me.

You don't like it, you can kindly avoid the threads where people voice their criticism. If the mods think it's unnecessary, it will be taken care of.

Nah man DmC has shown me the light. All those franchises I loved over the years were only tolerable because of the technological limitations of the time... I have taken off my rose tinted glasses and see them for what they are. Before DmC I didn't even know that DMC4 was stale. After seeing new Tomb Raider I can't go back to Boob Raider anymore, its too shallow with low production values.

Bizarro Dahbomb is best Dahbomb.

Nah, Tomb Raider fans have seen dark times before:

That was a shitty Tomb Raider game

This is a (most likely) shitty game that just happens to have the name "Tomb Raider" slapped on it.

On a more serious note, I haven't really paid much attention but has most of the media of this game been shown on Xbox or PS3?

Im not really worried about the whole exclusive DLC BS that happened with Underworld since Square is publishing this now

So much potential. The game as it was released is still lots of fun (if you didn't buy one of the bugged versions on release) apart from Kurtis' slow controls and turning around on staircases. But it could've been a truly great game had Core gotten just a few more months to polish it up (well, Eidos would've probably gone bankrupt...but they did anyway a few years later, were bought by SCI and the world didn't stop turning so...). Such a shame.

Did you actually listen to the whole thing? Because only parts of it sound like a thriller soundtrack. And even those parts don't sound generic at all to me. Nothing is going to beat AoD's soundtrack, though. Say what you will about the game but its soundtrack was inarguably the best in the entire series.

No, the worst kind of poster is someone who constantly bitches and constantly brings negativity to a thread and drags it down to the mud.

We've heard all the complaints about 10 billion times now – some valid and some that are just ridiculous. They’re ruining the threads for people that are genuinely excited for what looks like a great game. It's time to move on if they clearly don't like the look of the re-boot. Tomb Raider is unfortunately no longer for them - a lot of people like the older games and like the looks of the re-boot too, crazy right? Shitting up every Tomb Raider thread because some bitter fans don’t like the direction the series is going in is getting really old. They need to try to at least find a somewhat positive angle to approach the situation.

I just got around to watching that 60 minute gameplay from December and it looks spectacular i have to say. You are right that this isnt 'Tomb Raider' but i dont really care. The game that it is looks uber AAA. Here's to hoping it isnt a clever 'first 2 hours' disguise.

I don't need to. If somebody else's opinion is enough to dissuade your own excitement, then that's a personal problem that person should deal with.

If/When I buy the game, should I stop posting about what I've been saying since E3 last year just because some people can't handle opposing opinions?

I listened to about half of it and it just sounds like every thriller movie. Like a movie about a young girl being chased through the woods by killers. Parts of it sound like a generic wilderness survival movie. Where's the sense of wonder and exploration? The mystery? The soaring melodies? Shouldn't some of it have kind of a thematic kick to it due to the location? Where's the Japanese flare?

Upon reloading the video to check the rest of it, I found that half the video is silence, so I actually listened to most of it the first time.

I fully agree with this.

This new Tomb Raider looks fantastic!

This attitude is what caused DmC to underperform. Be careful what you wish for. Soon people will be blaming the fans for "not doing their job".

I still don't think it sounds generic.

But even so you can't judge the game's whole soundtrack off of a a few minutes which were only meant as a soundtrack for a feature video and not as a representation of the actual soundtrack.

This, for example, has some more of what you're missing in the other sample, I think.

Nope.....because then you will have at least played it. As an example, in the other thread this was posted:

True. Diversity is a good thing.

This reboot borrows Metroidvania elements from Arkham City, and the platforming is automatic like Assassin's Creed.
Hold A down to run and tap A to jump seems to be the impression I'm getting from both previews and off-screen footage.

It makes me wonder if the people not liking the game even know what they're talking about half the time.

To be fair to the game - all the music that plays is directly ripped from the latest trailer. I'm sure the game will have 'slower' melodies.

By this logic, you shouldn't be talking about how awesome it looks. If playing a game is requirement for having an opinion, we shouldn't talk about any media pre-release at all. I don't need to play it to confirm what I've seen.

If you have an issue with something somebody specific says, quote them, respond to them. Don't lump those with conflicting opinions under some generic umbrella. You're no better than saying "Haters gonna hate."

I'm actually interested in playing it but it's coming out at a bad time , my attention will be on Heart of the Swarm and SimCity 5.

Not one to gripe about the similarities to uncharted because it still looks more original and entertaining then half the gears of war clones out there these days.

The second half of that is nice. They are really overusing that drum.

hey big surprise, Tricky I Shadow is here bitching about the complaining again! "Why do other people get to share negative opinions! These topics should only contain the people who wildly circle jerk a title to death, so as this way I won't have to actually participate in anything that requires critical thinking!"

Sorry, Tricky, you don't have the right or the ownership of the Tomb Raider community. You are just a false fan who has filled the community manager role and you don't even get fucking paid for it. And worse still, you can't even back up your ill gotten opinions against those who criticize - instead, you just rail against the idea of negativity and pretend you don't understand why it's happening until it's blue in the face. And even if you did understand, you'd act as if it was some affront! You think there's some fuckin' negativity quota that once reached becomes excessive?

Why is it you think YOU have a right to go in every thread endlessly wanking off the title until it blows its load like some fucking dime corner whore, but the people who have followed the series and provide detailed critiques about the title similarly in many or most topics have some arbitrary limit on their negativity?

There is no double standard. People who are positive are allowed to post ad infinitum, people who are negative are allowed to as well. Time to deal with it. But most especially, it's time to deal with it and stop fucking pretending like it has anything to do with trolling just because the words of these individuals are bashing your sacred cow. Piss off, you say? Fuckin' LOL.

I'm just sick of all the negativity. **breaks down** ;_;

I could replace all this from 'why do you always defend the game' with 'why do you always bash the game'.

So sad that this ended up being Core's last TR. And that was really all because of Eidos. They just had to have one more PSone TR, so they put the veterans of the series on Chronicles while another team worked on AoD.

After completing Chronicles at the back end of 2000, lead programmer Richard Morton moved over to Angel Of Darkness, and he was shocked at what he found. “The tech had to be completely rewritten from PS1 to PS2 and scrapped again when the Chronicles team started on the game,” he explains. “We lost the first year due to Chronicles and only had the basic story, character models and concept art.”

800 pieces of fan artwork.

And an infinite amount of NSFW fan artwork

I hope so. Legends and earlier Lara were too top heavy, but Underworld and reboot are just right.

It's time to move on if they clearly don't like the look of the re-boot. Tomb Raider is unfortunately no longer for them - a lot of people like the older games and like the looks of the re-boot too, crazy right?

While I do agree that logically the best thing for consumers to do is move on, this statement sounds like tempting fate in light of DmC.

You're the worst kind of poster.

He's worse than posters who review games they've never played? That's interesting.

As for being scared of doing the OT. That's absurd. If people that want to shit on a game for no reason show up in the OT and act like assholes, they'll be dealt with as in any other OT. Just make the OT if you want. Preparing for something that hasn't happened yet isn't accomplishing anything.

Tricky you're scaring me.

Plus there's the thing as going to every single TR thread and shitting on it, going to every thread and trolling, being positive, and then the far opposite side of coming off as a major tool.

I'm happy you're happy for the game, but calm down. I'd hate to see what you're like defending a girl you like.

It’s funny. I’m normally never like this, but honestly this game looks like my dream game.
Yeah I just said that!
I guess being really passionate about something brings out the crazy in you.

People are scared of making an OT?

That's a new one, even for GAF.

It’s funny. I’m normally never like this, but honestly this game looks like my dream game.

I haven't played much Tomb Raider (TR2 when I was a kid a bit), so I'm not beholden to any nostalgia, memories, or preconceptions about the franchise other than Busty archeologist hunts treasure. Which is fine. But I really dig what I'm seeing of this game. Looks nice, seems like a really cool dark adventure, creepy mystery, all that jazz, I love it.

But I can see why long-time fans wouldn't like such huge changes. But hey, at the end of the day, whether you're positive or negative, you have to still sit down and play the game for yourself for your opinion to hold any real weight, I think. It's one thing being angry at the changes or hyped because you like what you see in the PR materials, but you still gotta play it for yourself, if at least to confirm what you imagined to be so. I was hyped for DS3, a lot of people weren't, but I'm playing it and I feel like I was right and it's a fantastic game. Other people changed their minds one way or another, some played it, didn't like it as they thought they would.

So yeah, if that makes sense. I assume Ami and co. is still gonna play it (rental or whatever), yeah?

Posts from those who doesn't care for the game has its place in these threads just as much as those who are hyped for the games. As long as no one is rude to each other or anything seems fair game to me.

He's worse than posters who review games they've never played? That's interesting.

This is the irony of this discussion. If you consider these negative individuals "reviewing games they've never played", there's absolutely no way you can't also similarly say that about people like Tricky.

This is a man who participated in a conversation about Tomb Raider that went like this:

Dude: "How do you know Tomb Raider is going to be good and these criticisms aren't legit?"
Tricky: "I know it's going to be good."
Dude: "You can't know it's going to be good."
Tricky: "Yes I can. I know it's going to be good. I know it's going to be my GOTY."

Etc etc

People are not "reviewing a game before it releases", they're making clear educated deductions based on the evidence we have before us, which is considerable. They base it on demos (I played the Tomb Raider demo), on previews, on factual gameplay details (the shit platforming is an indisputable fact; we already know it's hand-holdy no-skill nonsense, and this is confirmed by the demo and the interviews with staff over their philosophy on platforming and by hands-on), on gameplay videos. There is not some big mystery.

Most people have the capacity to accumulate all given data about a title and make very accurate educated guesses about how the title will end up, at least as it suits their individual taste. There's no big conspiracy.

He's not doing exactly that?

As long as the game is mechanically sound and has a good story with good VA, I'm happy. Pratchett better bring it.

Though it's gonna be weird hearing Lara gasp and moan cause on the one hand, she's probably in a horrible situation, but on the other hand... I probably have a boner.

Is that still a joke we can make? I've been out of the TR loop.

It's nice to be on the neutral side of a reboot and watch the shitstorm ensue for once. This game looks like the Conviction of Tomb Raider. Probably dumb and fun. It looks like it could be played by a monkey.
