The anime is awful but SK Burst is probably my surprise hit of 2013.
In a year of Dragon's Crown and D&D arcade remakes this game being my favorite Beat 'em Up is rather shocking but it's 100% true.
It is shockingly well written, something the anime doesn't share unfortunately.

This is a gigantic FYE in a gigantic mall, and it legit had one of the largest anime sections i've ever seen. Imagine 12 more things the size of the Porn section filled with Anime. I never even knew Eyeshield 21 got put out on DVD here!
I remember the Sam's Club that we had in town when I was in Junior High. They also had a section like. Needless to say, I'm rather surprised I didn't get caught at the employees when I was looking through them (parents were in the next store over in the strip mall).
....though I can't help but wonder if they actually sell well enough to warrant buying & stocking them. Heck, you'd think they'd be in their own separate area, like how my Family Video has an adult section in this room down a hallway that's blocked out of view due to the corner & saloon-style doors.

Fucking FYE charges like 50 bucks for a 5 episode DVD. It's no wonder they are going their stores are dropping like flies; people are got sick of their bullshit and realized they could get better deals through Amazon.
I actually had to double check Google to see if FYE was still alive. Amazing that they are somehow still afloat.

Picked up Ranma 1/2 Set 1 on DVD today, never seen or read the series but excited to see a classic.
I'm not sure how you'll react but this was my gateway anime back in '93.

As was I.... not stopping me from wanting to see it someday. Heck, Dragonball started in '86, four years before I was born, and I'm watching that.
To be more accurate, Akira was my first real anime I recognized as being such. That was in '91. It led me to discover manga and I started collecting some of that. The first manga I picked up was one called Silent Mobius. Ranma was my second. I still have them all including my somewhat rare first Ranma issue runs that were colorized by Viz.
I got into the shows, ova, movies after that.

Went back to Bravely Default after so long, got to the last chapter and am doing *ending spoilers*
*ending spoilers* , I will say I'm glad I got spoiled about certain things (I recalled being spoiled about something in here) or I may have chucked the game a few chapters ago.

"Kurenai's Top-Secret Mission: The Promise With the Third Hokage"
The old man wonders to himself if Yakumo's power has finally been awakened as he orders two of his men in to deal with Yakumo and Kurenai. One of them the fu manchu guy she dispatched with ease last episode. He then orders the heavy set one to intercept the pests on the way. The two rush into the villa to find Kurenai crouched over Yakumo in a defensive position with the bodies of their fallen clanmates behind them. Whatever happens, leave this to me. She notices the crest on the assailant's kunai. They are also of the Kurama clan. They order her to give them Yakumo and say this is none of her business. This child was entrusted to her care by the third Hokage so they try force instead. They disappear into a genjutsu...making vines as usual. At least these are bigger and thicker than the standard issue ones and I suppose they are all from the leaf village after all.
Yakumo screams as the two ladies are bound together (insert your own x person has seen this hentai joke here) and these two clowns do the whole pop out of seed pod thing again so Kurenai and Yakumo disappear in a blaze of flower petals. She's a Jonin you clods and the Genjutsu master of the village and of course you're caught in her genjutsu. They are both devoured by cherry blossoms.
Meanwhile Team Eight Remix is running in a straight line when a man starts popping up in the middle of the dirt path. Naruto charges ahead and Hinata and Sakura both warn him to stop. Naruto leaps at the man with Kunai drawn when he disappears. Naruto is shook by this and falls flat on his face. A beanstalk grows up out of nowhere and eventually he is grabbed by a bunch of vines. Fatty draws a sword and gets up to ramming speed in his little pea pod when Shino jumps in front of him and takes one for the team!
Of course it was a bug clone. Shino appears behind him, genjutsu doesn't work on insects and they gobble him up until he disappears. Akamaru is on the case as he can't hide his sent and Kiba uses Man Beast Clone: Fang over Fang to dig him up as Gai uses Severe Leaf Hurricane to clatter him. His half baked genjutsu is useless against a well trained ninja. Naruto meanwhile is still wrestling with the vines in his mind. Sakura says good grief and heads over to release him. Good morning Sakura, is breakfast ready? Why do you always rush in like that as he...goes to rush into the manor.

He's flattered by this but offers her a way out, hand over the girl. Mumrah-Sensei tells the girl to hold on tight. How does she expect to fight when she can't escape his jutsu? Well, she smirks and stabs herself in the shoulder, that's how!

He's already in her genjutsu but he smells blood and knows where she is, throwing more ninja stars where he thinks she is moving. He's dead on with the last one, hitting her right in the knee. Hand over Yakumo or the next one will pierce your heart.
Naruto comes leaping in calling out for Kurenai. Unkai and him clash kunai and he vows that no one touches her while he is around. She tells him to be careful as he rushes back to attack and the man...disappears again. Sakura from a nearby tree asks if Naruto is ever going to learn and Hinata uses her magic eyes to spot for Naruto. Multi Shadow clone jutsu for Naruto to join in the games. Not illusions, the real deal deal brother. Uzumaki Barrage Remix Edition. Unkai gets up swearing to have Yakumo yet as he disappears and runs away. Hinata tracks him but he's heading away.
They head back to the villa and Sakura gives Yakumo a sedative but says she probably needs to get looked at back at the village. Kurenai thanks her for her help but then grasps her shoulder. Sakura needs to look after her. Meanwhile Team Eight and Guy are standing over a bunch of sleeping members of the Kurama clan. Guy says they've been like this the whole time and Hinata doesn't think they'll wake up anytime soon. Fine by Guy but then they notice Sakura leading Mumrah the Ever Living outside and the genin rush over to talk. Guy also goes over glad to see she's alright when Sakura scolds him, saying she's clearly NOT alriight, shaking Guy to his core. She needs to go back to the village but Kurenai thinks she'll be fine. Besides she is more worried about Yakumo. Guy agrees thinking their enemies might return at any moment and also the mystery of what happened to the three ninja assigned here. He orders them to go back to the village while he handles things here.
Kurenai asks if he'll be okay going up against high level genjutsu users but he has no problem with his highly trained body. He can handle their tricks, jutsu wait and see! No one laughs. Dogs howl and Sakura looks out of it. Naruto is waiting by Yakumo's bed when she wakes up. He asks her about Kurenai sealing her jutsu. She thinks Kurenai hates her, she wanted to make sure she never mastered genjutsu. Naruto doesn't think that's the reason but he doesn't know why, only that it was probably for your own good. She just risked her life to save you. Those people were from her own clan though... If that's the case then why did they attack her? Sakura asks Kiba to accompany Kurenai back to the village but he won't go without answers. Does this business have anything to do with why you quit on Team Eight? She goes into the whole explanation of the Kurama clans fall from grace. Their powers started to wax until Yakumo was born. It was up to her to restore the clan's greatness but she was a frail and sickly youth who might not make it to the academy, Yakumo tells Naruto. This made her sad as she wanted to meet those high expectations. Her father went to the Hokage to ask for help. Kurenai takes over and the third gave Kurenai as her private teacher and we head back to Yakumo one final time. But she....But she...

Hinata has the same thoughts and Shino confirms their suspecion. He was watching her and her hand trembled with emotion when she talked about Yakumo, expressing her true emotion. When she explained her motives though no tremble. Apollo Shino is on the case. It was a lie. Perhaps she's trying to protect someone else. Who could be that important to her?
Yakumo overheard the third Hokage and Kurenai talking one day. Kurenai is confident that Yakumo's powers won't awaken for some time yet. Sooner or later the dam will burst and the Kurama clan's power will threaten the hidden leaf village but by that time it might be too late to eliminate the threat. It was the third Hokage who took away her powers! The same reason her parents were killed a year prior in a mysterious house fire in broad daylight. They were Jonin and would never be caught off guard like that. The file was sealed and she never got to see it. The third Hokage killed her parents. Naruto is LEGIT SHOOK. It's a lie and he's not going to listen to it as the episode ends.

First anime was probably Pokemon or Dragon ball Z or Sailor Moon but back then I just thought they were regular ole american cartoon whatsits and to me knowing that distinction changed how I viewed anime versus other cartoons. The first anime I watched where I knew it was anime was probably Naruto and it began my semi-weaboo era of teendom.

I think my first anime was one of those OVAs that Manga Entertainment put out in the 80's and 90's. I forgot what it was about, but I remember a lot of violence and bad words.
Oh heck yeah. Those were the glory days...of bad dubs and awful video quality.
I started with early morning Samurai Pizza Cats and Dragonball Z back in the mid 90s. I occasionally saw some when SciFi had the Saturday Anime block. That was the place where I ended up seeing Akira for the first time. Same with Iria.
Most of my anime watching started with the launch of Adult Swim and then that same fall when I went to college.

Lol, I was still in elementary school when I saw it and it was back when Blockbuster would stock stuff like Akira and Ghost in the Shell next to Disney movies.
Man, I actually own one realy bad copy of a shit anime from years ago. And the entire Project A-Ko fansub on VHS.
