- "There always a meteor" Tenchi Muyo scene or Ryoko watching TV used to have Ryoko watching Champloo's Meteor moment.

Naa, there's a lot more manservice this time ;-) LoL. They're all so pretty and skinny and [spoiler[quickly drawn kinda sloppy[/spoiler] muscularly and stuff! I'm glad we have at least 1 female in the show at this point! (And her secretary reminds me of the brown hair'd secretary from Gundam 00).

Brook would have been great to get in there, it's time like that (and not getting to make fun of Naruto) that I miss the longer block. Robiiinnnnn and Persona get eternally underserviced ATM, unless I throw them into the "cover" pic or something...

I've noticed, lol. I agree with Shard with how the simple constant death seems pretty ridiculous ATM. And seeing that chubby guy who'se apparently taken the hunter exam years in a row... HOW? People die on the drop of a hat, death is a MAJOR part of this test, and YOU survived MULTIPLE YEARS?!? I call complete BS, lol.

What's happening and what's said in the show are at ends with each other ATM, and that feels a bit more like "Mood Whiplash" to me than any comedy x violence scene from AGK or similar shows. It kinda works, and I know it gets better as time goes on, but it's so odd for now.

Good morning everyone. Even with the earlier bed time, I somehow got up later than usual. Weird.

Dragon Ball Z Kai:
Piccolo vs 17, with backflips, grenades, lots of punching, volcanic eruptions, oh wait Cell is here to cockblock everything. Uh oh!

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans:
Pretty good premiere. We've got the setting, the conflict, got to know the characters a little, and a really well-designed Gundam at the end. But why the lack of shirts? They must have wanted the Shojo or Josei market.
I look forward to more episodes.

Hunter x Hunter:
A little break from the exam, as Gon & Killua play a little game with the Hunter Chairman Isaac Netero (not sure why they don't mention his first name but whatever). Netero then shows that even at his age, he's still crazy tough. Even if he didn't hold back, Killua wouldn't stand a chance. Also yeah, Killua is from a family of assassins and he's just as dangerous.

Samurai Champloo:
Zombies! ... What? Weird episode.

Naruto Shippuden:
They kill the villain offscreen? Laaaaame. I guess this is where Sasuke's ascent into Gary Studom really starts, and when the Sharigan becomes "whatever the plot needs it to be".

One Piece:
Nami manages to stop the rampaging warthog zombie by claiming she's a man. ... I'm not convinced.
Moriah's got plans for Luffy. BIG plans.
Also Brook returns, and we get our first taste of Bink's Sake, or Bink's Brew as it's translated. Yohohohoho!

Dragonball Z Kai

Good fight in this episode. We got a good showing of just how powerful Piccolo is now, and how even more powerful these androids are. Sad that we get a run-in by Cell instead of an actual conclusion, though.

Gundam

I did not like this episode very much. Show seems to be a super lazy attempt at fan service- the fact that I am the target audience for said fan service and thought it was lazy and boring is probably a sign of failure. If you are going to attempt to introduce something like 20 characters to me in a 20 minute episode, you better have 50-75% of them dead by the end of the next episode or I'm going to loose any ability to care about you because I can't process that much information at midnight.

Hunter x Hunter

This was the best episode so far. We spent the previous episodes learning about Gon, and this episode is your character info dump for Killua. Then, after the info dump, you get the "game" with Netero that allows you to see how the personalities of these characters work together. Then, the episode ends with you getting confirmation that Killua is exactly who he says he is, and not just joking around.

I don't mind that we're tossed into the middle of everything with Gundam. Feels pretty characteristic of lots of Asian shows: hook them with the action and cast appearance in the first (few) episodes, then spend the middle part of the series unraveling each person you're met.

It's kind of fun in a "lets see if I pegged them right!" way of storytelling. And it also makes me, as a viewer, more immersed. I feel like I'm as uncomfortable with the situation as someone like Kudelia.

Personally, this variance in style also feels great on a block that has so many fluffy, predictably-shonen stories. I'm reminded of the days of 8th MS team (which I need to rewatch some day), and that's never a bad thing for me.

Excessive manservice aside, I do rather like the overall aesthetics of IBO, which is one of the best-looking things I've seen from Gundam since Endless Waltz. Soundtrack is quite good as well.

Fanservice is always an odd topic concerning anime. Both in what qualifies as fanservice, and what it means for the medium.

The fanservice in IBOs is mostly for ladies and guys who enjoyed ripped beefy men. That said, it does offer some more traditional fanservice later for the people who like the female form.

I do appreciate that. If you're gonna do fanservice in a mostly serious show, give something for everyone.

I saw an episode of Miss Machiko on Crunchyroll before Gundam IBO, so.. err.. was Gundam even fanservice? I don't think anything will odd me out as much as Machiko-chan, lol.

No, really, I don't understand why this exist. The idea of a show revolving around kids sexually abusing their hot young teacher, who eventually just gives up resisting in a cute, alluring way, to which they perform a victory pose for, is just... baffling. I can't imagine wanting to watch this with my parents while growning up...
