So back in the middle of 2006, when the show was in the midst of its original Japanese airing, I wrote this little review of Black Lagoon. I think it still holds up and might be of some use to the thread. Some "spoilers" in the form of the show's basic setup (basically spoilers for the first episode or two):

After the past year or so's heavy emphasis on frilly shows with girlish charm and tender melodramatic romances, FINALLY there is a show brave enough to just ****ing shoot mother****ing *****es in their mother****ing faces and blow the ****ing **** out of **** left and right. **** YEAH!!! Woo! This is manime of the highest mother****ing caliber, and it ****ing rocks. So here's the way it works. You've got your typical white collar salaryman on a trip for his BIG EVIL CORPORATION bosses to deliver a certain disc when MOTHER****ING PIRATES SHOW UP AND START ****ING **** UP! Our meek salaryman friend gets taken hostage, but the word "man" is in "salaryman" for a reason and our pal realizes very fast that PIRATES ARE ****ING AWESOME. So he becomes one. As a result, what we're left with is a cigarette-smoking outcast who can't return to the life he left, a tough as nails bald guy who serves as the ship's defacto leader, a hot-tempered and hotter-bodied midriff-baring chick who loves to partake of violence and excitement in the name of cash, and a laid-back ace computer hacking wizard. Wait a second....this setup sounds awfully familiar...which is part of its appeal. In fact, this wholesome piece of gun porn has turned out to be surprisingly deep and well-done, and it's maybe one of the bigger surprises of the year so far just how good this series turned out. Too bad it's only 12 episodes. But let's face it, you'd rather watch people blow **** the **** up in this than watch annoying pink-haired girls whine about their feelings...
Sir, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention

lol man black lagoon was in 2006? its animation has aged really well
Sadly it's true, which is why I stick to the Manga and only watch an episode during a good battle or a interesting filler.

It gets better overall but I think it might have helped in me eventually skipping filler and only coming back to naruto once the filler ended which led to the situation where I had to ask you where I left off on in the PMs haha

It's amazing that we have to spoilers for the beginning of part 2. Like, why would anyone wait once a week to catch up to this show? You'll grow old and gray before you actually catch up.

One Piece at 1:1 is still better than any other manga at that pace. The manga is too detailed to be absorbed in that form.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.
One day I would like to see a Luffy with a decent VO, that includes the JPN version.

Apparently, Funimation wanted to get a man to voice Luffy (since he's 17 and all) but Toei said "No, it has to be a woman". Stupid stipulations...
