do you guys actually care that much about YuGiOh? Show's always had a shit dub presented for children. Hell the cardgame is basically "MtG but for weebs and children" at least in the west

Nah but it is still an oddity to see such bad dubs today considering how much effort goes into other dubs now that everything else has tanked. Digimon Xros Wars was also very bad as well. God help us if the OVA's get dubbed in a similar manner.

DO WE NEED TO SEND JARATE TO THE SHADOW REALM?!?!

Actually, I remember reading the original manga via my library (or the "Season Zero" manga) and it's surprisingly different. Like, I think card games were played in ONE chapter. Everything else was a gamble where people would gamble something and it'd result in people going crazy or whatever.

No, but after the disaster of a show that Zexal was, it was nice to see them get in on the running jokes of the series- taking the "Card Games on Motorcycles!" to the extreme of having the main character ride a dancing hippo around the battlefield, and the "MC always cheats!" even further with Pendulum summons. I like what I've watched of Arc-V, and am really sad they went with a parody style dub. It's like they watched YGO abridged and thought "That's hilarious, lets do that!", not realizing that it was actually laughing at them, not with them

Remember those halcyon days when YGO was about watching porn videos? :(

Shows intended for kids meant to push associated merch vs shows meant for adult anime nerds meant to push $100 for 5 episodes Blu-Rays. At least there's an overall higher product quality standard from the likes of Aniplex vs what some shows get saddled with when the distributors know they can get away with it.

Speaking of bad dubs, I watched the Digimon movie.

It hurt.

Any movie that has Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim, All Star by Smash Mouth, and One Week by Barenaked Ladies can't possibly be anything other than great

I liked it ironically before I was even old enough to fully understand what liking something ironically was

my voice is 2 deep to do the pegasus voice now

Wasn't YGO also super violent?

The manga started this way but even it turned down the violence one the show got to duelist kingdom and became all about pimping the card game.

I still love the original ygo 4kids dubbed and uncensored sub, I also have enjoyed the other series subbed and have enjoyed what I've seen of arc v. Gx and beyond dubbed is cringe worthy bad outside of the dub of 5ds which is passable

It's interesting to see how improved anime dubs are compared to what we grew up with, but they were at their peak with some pretty awful dubs.

Also, I felt the Ninja Slayer dub was too good for what it was. It wouldve been great if the dub was made more like those 90's western action cartoons as opposed to the actual good dub dub it got

GX was so ridiculous, the idea of a duelist school is ridiculous, but the idea that even with a duelist school that everyones decks still sucked made no sense to me.

That blonde chick though gave me weird feels as a kid

GX's problem (talking the original Japanese sub version) is that it didn't know if it wanted to be a serious show with an over arching story line or a more comedic show with more stand alone episodes leading to a strange hybrid show that slowly goes from being largely comedic with little over arching plot to a very dark show by it's final season. The arc that Kaiser's character in particular takes is truly bizarre when he enters the dueling underground and becomes a dueling masochist only enjoying duels where he can make others feel physical pain.

The old Digimon dubs in general did NOT age well.
And Saban's dub of Xros Wars shows they didn't learn a damn thing.

Incorrect, OG digimon s1 and s2 dubs are great. I love Izzy's VA in particular.

The movie also confirmed my childhood suspicions that the new generation of Digimon kids is boring and terrible

Correct.

By the way, toonamigaf, have you heard the good word of my hero academia?

it's got a frog girl

frog

girl

seriously though I'm really enjoying it so far, it's a fun naruto-with-superheroes kind of ride and the main character, while your standard pathetic shonen dweeb, is inexplicably kind of likable. also the sasuke character is a huge asshole but, unlike sasuke, not everybody is all over him because oh yeah everyone's got superpowers so like whatever dude

but seriously it's all about the frog girl

Hero Academia is very good. Super shoneny but it does it pretty well. Has very likable characters and the MC is pretty awesome.

Some people may dislike that the current tournament arc's 1v1 fights are pretty short and simplistic. But it's not about the fights so much as it is continuing character development and growth.

It also fits within the story which makes it acceptable. The students aren't in their super suits which have been shown to enhance their powers. They're also still getting used to using their powers for more combat situations so it makes sense for their super power endurance to not be that great.

When Toei gets this anime we're all gonna cry

Deku works as a protagonist because he's not only smart but he uses his intelligence to actually EARN his wins (when he does win which isn't even all the time). It's such a refreshing change to Naruto, Luffy, Ichigo, etc. who are all either morons or win because "reasons" (though they have their shinning moments of course). I really hope MHA can keep up that aspect of his character.

I was afraid when we were doing a tournament arc so soon but I've been loving how short the battles are. They aren't about the fights, they are about the characters - even the final which was this past week. I will say though I liked how Gravity Girl handled her fight, the "she's a girl" aspect was played up a bit too much for my tastes. I hope she and the other side/secondary characters get more chances to shine. I don't want this to turn into "only the protagonist matters" ala Naruto, Bleach, etc.

When Toei gets this anime we're all gonna cry

Stop jinxing it :( >_<

LOL wtf guys. One of the characters is basically Arnold Schwarzenegger. Why? There's just no reason for that. I'm so sad now. I wanted this to be good.

come to think of it mha kind of reminds me of soul eater in a way.

se was a much more ensemble cast though, even though maka was the primary. MHA is really about deku and to a lesser extent might (and explosion douche i guess)
