Good news, this is indeed the troll we thought it was. Look at the letters from 3:30 AM to 5:00 AM.

Family Fracas
Ambergis
Killer Vacation
Escape from Pearl Bailey

Heh... Neat.

If you take all the non Toonami shows, the first letters end up as
THIS IS FAKE...

As for Gundam... well... its not exactly my cup of tea, but hey, good for those that do like it.

Damn it, I KNEW there was something more to that hidden message, but I didn't think of taking the shows that aren't Toonami.

Also, might finally get Skies of Arcadia Legends, just need to see if I can afford the $65....I just fear that when I finally acquire it, Sega's gonna announce a HD version for PSN/XBLA, but I guess those chances are long gone.

& can I just say how happy I am that FF15 didn't turn out to be this gaming generation's Duke Nukem Forever? It's probably not gonna win Game of the Year, but I'm so glad it's just a good game of its genre and liking (for the most part) the stuff that's been changed/updated. It really feels like the next-gen FF that we've been waiting for.

Heh I also spent a lot of money of Skies of Arcadia recently. And yes I expect Sega to announce a PC or PS4 port or something now that I shelled out.

I remember you talking about it on Twitter a while ago. I've heard very good things about it & the GCN port fixes a few problems like lowering the enemy encounter rate. It's been on my list for some time but always seems to either be too expensive or figuring Sega would re-release it digitally for $20.

........but then again, I really need to stop buying RPGs that just end up going in my backlog. Hell, same day I got FF15 in the mail, I got FFX/X2 HD on PS4 as well.

Gundam Unicorn is mostly good, some "eh". But uh, I have no idea how easy it'll be to understand if you don't already know the UC timeline.

Maybe the TV series is clearer than the OVAs?

edit: Oh, and since it's a recut of the OVA, it's going to have phenomenal animation and fights. And isn't that what we watch shows about giant robots for, anyway?

it's really good, especially if you like UC Gundam.

GAF is going to hate it's glorious Sawano soundtrack tho

I don't really have a beef with Sawano for the most part. He's done some good work.

I say most because the New Los Angeles' night theme in Xenoblade X for example makes me want to find whatever hip-hop artist coined the practice of going “UH, UH, YEAH” in place of lyrics and push a small volume of Shakespearean sonnets down his windpipe.

Like off the top of my head, here's the series the Unicorn OVAs assumed you already knew about and are part of its core plot: the original Gundam, Zeta, ZZ, and the movie Char's Counterattack. I think it also references the 08th MS Team, Gundam 0083, and the Origin OVAs?

I guess there was more explanation than I remember? Or the TV series added more explanation?? I forgot most of what happened anyway.

Well I've been planning to eventually dig into the OG Gundam so I guess I will be spending my Christmas Holiday binge watching.

I heard you guys have been talking about Skies of Arcadia in this thread. :V
I'm most likely going to buy SoA Legends on Gamecube next week for $65 in great condition, case & manual. Been on my bucket list for years & it seems Sega had no plans on releasing a digital HD version.

For some reason lately, I've kind of been in a "I should buy this since I could share it with a friend to make the purchase more worth it" mood & partly why I'm excited to own stuff like Nichijou, Jojo, & One Punch Man on Blu-ray or buying certain games.

what you should be expecting from Unicorn's animation, by the way

Apparently Cole Brown passed away. Voiced Blackbeard and Jaguar D. Saul in One Piece.

Nooooooooooo!
Heartbreaking news. :(
My condolences to his friends, family, and loved ones.

Losing the VA for the big bad is a painful blow to the dub. His last performance as BB was
right after Marineford.

DeMarco also posted this on his Twitter.

I'd dig me some Mob Psycho 100 and Lupin the Third in 2017, but I hope to God that Tokyo Ghoul doesn't end up on the block. I like the manga but the anime was terrible.

I can agree with that.

I am not a purist (aka someone that requires the anime stay true to the manga) but tokyo ghoul really should have, as a number of things in the anime annoyed the crap out of me, where in the manga none of them are present.

the manga and anime basically have two different lead characters :/

oh I was wondering why people were complaining since I heard the manga was good, that explains it

If you don't mind spoilers without a ton of context.

In the anime, he is repeatedly told not to deal with someone, meets that someone, goes, oh you seem nice, and goes with him. once with him he sits down and eats some food and gets drugged and nearly killed.

in the manga, he is repeatedly told not to deal with someone, meets that someone, tells them to go away he doesn't want to deal with him, gets bribed or blackmailed (can't remember which but i think it was blackmailed) basically forcing him to deal with this person. Once with him he sits down, looks at the food, but refuses to eat it because he can't trust the guy, so the room is then set to flood with gas to take him out. still gets nearly killed.

in a jist... the anime tried to shonenfy a non shonen series. the end result the main character had a lot of his intelligence and depth of character removed. They also change the order of some things resulting in them making little sense in the anime, but made perfect sense in the manga... but in general they just really screwed up the main character in the anime.

At first was meh to more Gundam, but if it has a Sawano soundtrack I will bump it up to most anticipated show on the block.

Although even Sawano didn't stop me from dropping Kubenari after four episodes (don't even remember it being bad at the point I was at, just kind of fell to the wayside).

Holy shit. What were they thinking?

no clue. he is an idiot in the anime, while in the manga he at least has some common sense.

I mean the anime isn't horrible. it's a fine bored show, but the manga for the same material was actually a pretty good read, and that type of series isn't typically one I would read. I only read it because the anime was driving me insane and I heard the manga did it better.

I had no idea it had effectively a different main character

My issue with the first season is they tried to cram far too much content in a single season. Like, it's not terrible, but a rush job.

Root A is some hot garbage though :p

I only know Tokyo Ghoul as "that manga series that my younger sister reads & ordered two more volumes as Xmas gifts for her". Had no idea the manga & anime were rather different.

Also, why is it called Lupin Part 4 if it's the FIFTH incarnation of the anime?

Zonic

Ya know, considering they tried to get Woman named Fujiko Mine, I'm kind of surprised they had to ask people "hey, you want Lupin?" when it seems that they already have a desire to bring a newer season to the block. But I guess it makes sense to see what your audience wants first.

Also, I did some thinking & I feel like I've been a little too hard on DBZ as a whole. It's honestly the Cell Arc itself that's just been so infuriating. At least with the Frieza Arc, I was able to see better what made the show so popular in the '90s & had its moments, even if the pacing was still a bit annoying at times. The things I heard about from friends or other kids were there & from the mind of a child, I can recognize the parts that would've made them into fans of the series & eventually get into anime as a whole. Heck, maybe if I actually was able to see an episode where they were doing some actual fighting instead of talking about how they were going to fight, I might've given it more attention when I was a kid. But with Cell, it just feels like a copy & paste of the previous arc with awful pacing & soooo many "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" moments, not to mention all the damn "LOL NOPE, STILL NOT DEAD! HERE'S SOMETHING ELSE TO DRAG THE ARC OUT!" It basically took the Frieza arc & made it even worse in addition to the other problems I have (powers up don't feel exciting, nobody really feels unique in terms of movesets, pacing in general, etc.)

Bit of a random thought I had, but just wanted to get that out since it's obvious I seem to be the most negative on the show & it's not often I feel as though I can contribute more fleshed out thoughts/opinions on something in comparison to other members here who do great jobs being able to explain why something like IBO isn't working. The Cell Arc is still one of the most frustrating things I've watched on Toonami & I hate it, but I withdraw my statement about DBZ, when taking everything into consideration, being one of the worst shows Toonami has aired.

......plus Battle of Gods would be really fun to rewatch as a group, that movie was really good & what I wish DBZ was more like.

I feel like Demarco's planning to bring all three series over eventually, but he needs to decide priorities.

There's a lot of stuff to fit in over the next year or two, yeah? Like Stardust Crusaders has to happen eventually, and then My Hero Academia can't take too long when Season 2's out next year.

e: People describe Super to me as "DBZ but goofy like the original Dragonball", and that sounds like fun

That actually makes sense. "We can air/get the right to all these, but let's see what we should air first." & I'm hopeful MHA is perhaps part of the 4th or 5th place requests since DeMarco said there's just too many shows to figure out who would get what place. It would make for a nice "break" show for something like Gundam or Jojo.

& yeah, Part 3 is just a matter at times at this rate considering we have Jojo & Part 3 is basically the most well known/popular with US audiences. I would imagine Part 2 > replacement show > Part 3 > another replacement > Part 4 plz??

Now Super sounds like it'd be more up my alley. In fact, isn't part of it just basically an episodic version of Battle of Gods? I don't know if I like the idea of "let's give a movie the TV pacing treatment", but I'd be willing to give Super a chance, especially if it's (mostly) new material that doesn't have to try & drag out its source material.

Yeah that's probably why I enjoy the newer Dragon Ball stuff more than DBZ these days. It still has increasingly over the top power levels, but it's a lot more goofy and less serious so that stuff doesn't bother me as much. Even the most recent arc which is the most serious so far has a lot of goofy stuff in it.

The first two arcs adapt Battle of Gods and Return of F. Pretty much extended versions of those movies with some good filler slice of life episodes mixed in. Past that has been all new content.

Perhaps that's why I thought Battle of Gods was rather enjoyable to watch. DBZ Kai tries to be waaay too serious at times & sometimes the humor just doesn't work (i.e. Mr. Satan), though it does have its moments, especially earlier on. Meanwhile, BoG had some great moments, both with its fights & humor.

Yeah, the first Super arc is Battle of Gods with a bunch of changed and expanded scenes
Oh, so it's not a complete retelling? Well now I'm a little more interested.

I need to listen to the jojo portions of the podcast from when the first episode aired to hear reactions, I love the show a lot and don't want to retread ground if I ever happen to go on again.

If I ended up hating Gundam IBO the longer it went, what are the odds I end up hating Gundam Unicorn?

It starts off stronger than it finishes, but it stays good. It's one of the better entries in the franchise. It's made even better if you're main timeline fan.

The reveal is handled with all the subtlety of Rob Gronkowski spiking a football, however.
