Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Deadman Wonderland is fucking awful (and imo, dangerously close to being the seinen version of torture porn). I'd rather they replace it with something that doesn't suck.

Marketing juggernauts? Let's get moe on this shit.

I want Lain to be on Toonami. I would love to see how some of you react to that show.
I think virtually everyone with a passing interest in anime has seen that by now. It was one of the highest praised anime for several years after it came out and it aired on TechTV's anime block. I'd much rather see Texhnolyze on Toonami.
Some more '80s anime would be pleasant to watch. Patlabor (TV) would be a joyous occasion and a great diversion from the rest of the line-up.
I do hope classic anime is given another shot on Toonami. It's a real shame the ratings MS Gundam got.

It's sweet that Cowboy Bebop is showing again, but alot of these shows just...suck

I thought it had never stopped showing.

Still think they should run a block of Sengoku Basara/Gurren Lagann. Manliest fucking block ever assuming you only count shows from the last five years.

Maybe it didn't stop running, I stopped watching anime on Adult Swim a while back, I'm just not a fan of most of these shows

Haven't seen Lain yet, though that's because I've only just gotten back into anime.

They need to reclaim licensing rights to MSG. A real bummer that 9/11 essentially destroyed the show's chances.

I want to see more Lupin dubs, personally.

From what we've heard, MSG was already a failure on CN before that. It was a stipulation Bandai Japan forced on Bandai Entertainment to get on TV.

If they got even one of the new shows (ignoring Reborn), id be super happy. Even Inuyasha would have a fun nostalgia factor for me (hated the show, but loved hanging out and ragging on it. Has a special place in my heart).

If the ratings were that bad, then I guess it's going to be risky right-now. Oh well. Maybe they could show-off Garzey's Wing instead. Tons of ratings there.

Justice League/Unlimited was shown in the later Toonami years.
The main problem is there's no way DC wants to air a new property at 12 PM. Justice League was great for the Saturday Entertainment System and later Toonami because they could air it anywhere from 8 to 10 PM at the latest.

And right there is the heart of the problem. What American show is going to want to air that late? It's a tough sell even if this was Classic Toonami with the amazing brand power.

I do think this new Toonami should be focused on anime. The entire rest of the channel can air the American stuff. With SyFy axing their anime block and Funimation Channel being a non-starter for most people, trying to get any kind of anime fix through TV is pretty much limited to just Toonami right now. And since Toonami has only three hours a week to itself anyways, it should stay focused on anime IMO.

There are a lot of OVAs, movies, and obscure TV series that the new Toonami could license and expose to a grown-up audience. I hope they can balance top-priority shows like Bleach and Gurren-Lagann with stuff like Trava and Lupin.

Why should it? It was never about being all-anime, why start now? There are good American shows than can be put at those timeslots (Still waiting for my Superjail/Deadman Wonderland combo hour), it's just tricky.

EDIT: This might be as close as I get <--- some DW spoilers.

Because there's so few anime airing on US TV at all, why make it even less by taking slots form the block that is airing almost all of it?

I'm going to say, no there aren't, and that combo wouldn't work.

Toonami is an action block. I can't think of any current US action animation that has the freedom of content that makes it feel like an appropriate fit in Adult Swim ['s Toonami revival]. It would all skew too young compared to anything [AS] has ever showed anime-wise.

Superjail is absolutely not the type of show suited to Toonami, and most American shows aren't. I'd say, put half the DC Nation stuff there but DC Nation is its own block (as it should be, the entire point of special "blocks" like DC Nation and Toonami is putting like-shows together in order to make it more convenient for viewers to keep watching.)

As for "it was never all about anime," true, but it was what defined Toonami especially under TOM. And the most memorable American shows on Toonami when it was a three hour block on Saturday before were: Teen Titans, Megas XLR, Justice League Unlimited, and IGPX.

Respectively: a show with a large anime influence, a mecha show (mecha being a genre almost exclusive to Japan), a superhero show, and a Japanese-animated collaboration. If you can find any non-DC Nation shows on Cartoon Network that fit that criteria, I'd say, by all means, it should be considered for Toonami.

But considering the pickings are already slim, and anime has almost completely died out on television, I say, let Toonami have three hours to itself to only air anime. There won't be anything like it on any other station, and it plays to Toonami's historical strengths.

Definitely. It's also been dubbed, so it's fit-to-go if the dub can be licensed from Central Park Media. A real classic mecha TV series (with accompanying movies from Mamoru Oshii).

The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Superfriends, Reboot, New Adventures of He-Man...

All former Toonami shows, all defined the old Toonami and played to their strength. I get why shows like Batman/Superman/JL aren't there (they're on Boomerang/TheHub right now) but I'd mark out for Reboot or The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest.

EDIT: As for the Superjail issue, you need to get inventive here. It's not about fitting the block per se, but it's about fitting the demo. Superjail has been fitting the demo for quite awhile now on Sundays, and I never saw people complaining about Futurama when the repeats routinely pulled in 500K-600K of the 18-49 and gave FMA/Inuyasha a nice fat lead-in. In reality, we don't know what they're trying to do with Toonami here. If they are trying to be a new entity, it doesn't hurt to add the show. If they're trying to go back to "building you a better cartoon show", you don't focus on one type of animation for the Hell of it.

Now provide shows that are made recently and fit the new Toonami (TOM says bitches, airing shows like Deadman Wonderland).

Of course, if someone WAS to make a good US adult action cartoon, I'd be very happy, but I'm not seeing it happen.

If Superjail doesn't fit that block, nothing will. Hell, I'd recommend Metalocalypse but they're doing great on Sundays. And why do they have to be made recently? People are suggesting anime from early 2000s here.

Let's also not pretend Toonami is some block where you can get away with cursing. I imagine they where fined by S&P for TOM's language, considering DW and Metalocalypse had to bleep their curses. DW had alot of edits also, I mean this isn't IFC here.

I kind of wish Durarara still aired. That was probably my favorite shoe on AS. It just had a different vibe to it than most animes.

Edit: And damn the DVDs are expensive!

Those two are comedies, whereas the previous US cartoons you listed were action cartoons.

Even if it's not an anime block, Toonami is an action block.

The comedies that did air on it were anime.

The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Superfriends, Reboot, New Adventures of He-Man...

Thanks for listing four more non-Japanese shows. Well, three since Superfriends was never apart of TOM-era Toonami, which is what everyone thinks of when they say "Toonami."

Now, how many animes were on Toonami? That was my point. I even went out of my way to highlight American shows on Toonami in my post, because the low amount of them (and their action-oriented nature) highlights the massive amount of anime Toonami did offer. Such a massive amount that it definitely defined Toonami, and you're delusional if you think otherwise.

Adding Superjail to the lineup would absolutely detract from the it and would probably be the the biggest misfit in Toonami's lineup of all time. Bad idea all around. It doesn't fit Toonami from any angle. Might as well just add My Little Pony, Milk-chan, and 12 Oz. Mouse to the lineup and be done with it.

Of the anime Adult Swim's already aired, Big O, Durarara, Death Note, and of course YuYu Hakasho would be great picks to add back to the lineup. I think any of them could (and should) replace FMA B or GitS, but those two are OK and generally fit the Toonami mold so it isn't a big deal.

I really wish YYH were added back. No reason not to either, except maybe Funi wanting to squeeze more sales out of the Blu-rays... then again I'm not sure if that logic is sound....
