Trackmania 2 Canyon Beta Pre-Orders + Beta live NOW NOW NOW GO MOVE NOW

Just played three hours straight, 2 map cycles on a Nadeo Official Server. The maps there weren't anything special (I guess they are Nadeo's maps for single player) but it's good old trackmania alright and I can feel the addiction growing. To get a smooth framerate at 1080p I reduced settings to Fast + FXAA with my C2D e6600@3.0Ghz and GTX280. Paypal worked for me but that was 3 hours ago...
 
Tried for hours with Paypal, then decided to actually log in to the paypal website and have that page open while trying it again, worked first try.

I'll never understand the 'spam to get in' mentality.
It's collectively shooting yourselves in the foot.
Either wait, or space your attempts out instead of ddos ing the server.
 
Love the controls, but oddly enough, the game is very disappointing graphically. The YouTube videos gave me the impression it would look better. Doesn't run very well either, and SLI does not appear to be supported.

Playing a BETA fails to perform?

Actually, is this a BETA? Or just MP BETA?

Not many at all. I really hate when that excuse is thrown around...especially when this is obviously the same engine as the original game with a few enhancements. Besides a working SLI profile, the game will not improve that much. Now, with a working SLI profile, I'll be over 60fps, but as it stands, my GTX 570 nets me ~45-55fps most of the time...pretty disappointing. I cut out FXAA, shadows down to High, car reflections to HighInReplay, and opponent vehicles to Medium, and I'm still regularly below 60fps.

I spent hours spacing it out, and my spam was my FU for the incompetent launch bit.

Perhaps not, but there have been plenty of PC games that have received post release patches to fix performance.
 
It may have been dumb luck like most people, but a friend told me just to try out internet explorer and it worked on my first try. People hitting that refresh might as well try it out.

Another friend tried this and it also worked for him. So, I dunno. Buts.

I'm having a problem. I installed the game and logged in but when updating the files it says there was an error downloading titles.pak and then when I get to the main screen the background is black and I can't select any options besides profile and quit. Help!
 
I made an AusGAF group in TrackMania 2, but is anyone going to make a NeoGAF group?

Maybe start a Community thread as well?

Also, does trying to switch the camera with 1-3 keys not work for anyone else?
 
Well, this is lovely. Managed to get through with paypal, got my confirmation email and download link but no key. Nothing in my spam folder either. Boo.
 
Dumb question: is the one canyon map the only one available? Do they plan on releasing others? I know there are mod tools to create new tracks but whatabout maps?

Canyon is the only environment in this release.

Although there appears to be something in there about reskinning blocks so I figure we'll see a total conversion or something. Eventually.
 
Has anyone had success actually buying with a VISA from the United States? I might retry a few times if it's just the server ignoring the transaction, but I don't want to retry if it's actually going to trigger my credit card fraud detection or something.

I did with a Visa branded bank debit card but it should work the same as a credit card. Though I did so right when they pre-orders went live and before all the reported failed transactions.
 
Anyone with an existing Trackmania account able to log in?

Every time I try to log in it says that the there is no log in associated with the username, yet when I go to create a new account it says that the name already exists from a Trackmania account (which is the one I used for United and know the details of). Also, clicking 'forgot password' tells me, again, that it is not a valid username.


Edit: Nevermind, creating a new account with the exact same details as my United account seems to work now. Strange!
 
Why is this game only $20? Not that I'm complaining, just wondering if there's a lot of content in "Canyon".

It's $25, and there is only one environment. Previous games cost more but featured 3 environments, and then united forever collected them and one of them added stadium, something like that.

To answer my own quesiton, the game does not like you setting custom paths for personal data during the install process, so avoid that if you have a similar issue. I reinstalled using the default paths for the custom content and the game now works fine (pity though, because I don't want the data on my SSD).

So is it likely that they will release an edition with more environments like a GOTY one and charge us again or would it be a free update?

Strange, custom paths worked for me. I kept them out of the default location for the same reason.

If I recall correctly the plan was to release episodes. A trackmania environment, a shootmania environment, maybe questmania, another trackmania, that sort of thing. We'll see.
 
Finally got in. This game has the worst menus ever, doesn't look nearly as good as I thought it would, and is kinda glitchy all around. But holy hell is it fun.

One of the reasons i've stayed away from buying another card.. it seems like 4 out of 5 times SLI doesn't work correctly with most of these releases lately. Either that or you have to wait a couple months for new drivers. I dunno could just be my perception of it.
 
I absolutely adore the car physics in this game.

That's pretty much the case.
 
For those asking about 5770 performance - cranked to the max settings posted a couple of pages ago, I've found it runs about the same as Stadium does for me, usually around 40-60 fps at 1600x900. Better than I expected!

I'm loving it so far... the speed and thrills of Island with the awesome tight/heavy handling of Stadium. These drift physics are to die for. Feels maybe a bit too much like just a new location for Trackmania United but I guess that's kind of what it is. Odd that they haven't integrated United into this Maniaplanet thing, it's completely separate accounts. Looking forward to the whole game unlocking next month.
