Transformers: The Last Knight review thread

So...just got back from seeing it with friend (We both had the $4 T-Mobile deal).

Worst one yet, yes, worse than the second.

At a loss for words, I'll post more coherent thoughts later

What's the most logical scenario for movie 6?

...

Prehistoric. The entire film is prehistoric.

BEAST WARS!!!

WITH 3D ACTION!!!!!!!!!

Please.

na didn't you see the end credit scene? evil goddess is still alive in present day. they'll be fighting her next time. HOPEFULLY she's a better villain than Megatron.

Lmao at people thinking FF and Transformers are the same quality.

FF is dumb but incredibly fun and has likeable characters.

Transformers is just aggressively dumb.

Fun is allowed.
Bayformers isn't fun.
Fast & Furious isn't fun.
Transformers '86 is only fun if you like cheesy Star Wars knock-offs.

See I mean, you took what was pretty obviously a frivolous and purposefully hyperbolic nonsense statement and felt the need to actually get all critiquey as if I was serious so..... yeah no fun allowed.

- The reveal that
Earth is Unicron

No way... they
pulled a Transformers Prime?!
Aww man. Why even bother. You can't even
sell a giant transforming planet toy if it's just Earth, unless they destroy the Earth for Unicron to live.

Well, I guess you can, but then you end up with this:

This is my "favorite" part of the nonsensical DEEP LORE in Bayformers. It's flat out nonsense. Every movie they seem to start development with someone flipping through a history book and stopping at a random page, and deciding that this time THAT piece of history has to involve Transformers, with no regard to what happened in previous films. Then they just build more bullshit around the plot point they randomly decided on.

HOOVER DAM!
PYRAMIDS!
MOON LANDING!
DINOSAURS!
KIIIIIIIIIIING AAAAAAAAAAAAAARTHUR!

?????? YAY FOR BAY! ????????

(Time to light another candle for my altar)

Did a Decepticon assassinate JFK?

Yep, that's exactly the problem I have with that twist.

Honestly, I'll take the Transformers movies over Fast and The Furious.
I think I might be with you there, although Tokyo Drift and 8 were pretty fun.

I'm biased though. Growing up, TFs were my jam. I can enjoy dumb action. At the same time, F&F's family theme falls flat for me, Dom doesn't grab me at all, and I don't have much affection for his team. Charlize Theron's Cipher is a franchise highlight, but (Fate of the Furious spoilers)
I don't see her becoming a primary character anytime soon,
even though that would be awesome.

Plus Cogman entertained me more than probably anything in a F&F movie, though to be fair I don't remember them very well before 7 and 8.

The first two Fantastic Four movies, yeah they're definitely likeable and fun. Not so much the reboot.

Fast n Furious
Yeah I went back to the previous page and realized that people were talking about Fast and Furious.

Yeah, FF has likeable characters in spade.

Btw someone please tell me at least the action scenes are dumb popcorn level of watchable (is it at least as good as past Transformers films?). Cause if not, then I'm going to be really disappointed. I'm going with my brother and some friends tomorrow for $4. I at least want to be entertained when shit blows up.

They definitely are. And fortunately, they get better as the movie progresses.

Transformers 6 will be about the Greek gods being autobots. Zeus turns into a Tesla.

I'm surprised a refined gentleman like Monocle enjoyed this drivel so much
I thought it was offensively stupid in a lot of ways, but I knew what I was getting into. Hopkins, Cogman, and Prime really do make it watchable. It's definitely way too long though—which I'd bet $1000 I haven't said about more than 10 films in my whole life.

Oh, and we get a gratuitous ab shot, which is always a plus in my book.

Maybe the most painful thing about this movie is it could have been halfway decent if only it had focused on the historical aspect. (Not the absurd WW2 stuff. I mean the King Arthur bit.) They could have given us a first contact scenerio and tracked how the TFs' intervention in world events passed into legend. That would still be dumb, but you could possibly make an OK movie out of it, given the right tone.

FnF's plot is well structured. Everything feeds onto the next event. Feeds into the next movie. It doesn't have to be smart but it does make sense within it's own rules.

Transformers has no plot, they make up a new one every new movie. There are no rules or guidelines or consistency. The first movie has been ENTIRELY retconned at this point.
Reminds me of the Highlander films. Where each new film only works as a direct sequal to the first film.

Just got back.

Eh.. It was okay. First half was pretty boring.

English chick was hot though.

Also. Its like 5 times Optimus Prime says his name.

This shit is uncalled for. Michael Bay is a respected and acclaimed director who constantly pushes himself to new limits. That makes his bold visionary choices divisive and challenging for critics and audiences alike. No need to demonize people who don't go with the flow. #SupportBayFilms

So let me get this straight: you're a Transformers fan and yet you hate Castlevania Symphony of the Night and its Igavania sequels. Why?

That was...eh.

The plot was convoluted nonsense, the poor attempts at humor fell flat at very turn, the story constantly tried to do emotional moments or payoff for things were never earned and characters that we care nothing about, and the tonal shifts will give you whiplash

But the action was enough to justify the $7 matinee

Compared to the aggressively dull and completely forgettable Mummy, this was a much better time

Funnily enough, the trailer beforehand were as tonally jarring as the movie. Daddy's Home 2, Despicable Me, red bad trailer for Hitman's Bodyguard, Wish Upon

The damage they did to this series... Just no respect man, only money.

This did more good for Transformers than anything since its inception. The toys are cheap and plentiful; there's movie figures, tv show figures, generations/titans return/combiner wars, hasbro and takara versions, tons of masterpiece figures, and the Knockoff Market is massive. Do not get it twisted, shows like Beast Wars and the comics were an anomaly in the history of the franchise, any media around transfromers was and always will be a vehicle to sell toys to kids and collectors.

That doesn't mean you can't enjoy all the past and current media, of course, but to deny the impact these movies have had in keeping this franchise alive and prosperous is crazy talk.

I refuse to believe this can be worse than Revenge of The Fallen.
It is by a huge margin. You think Revenge was random and poorly plotted you haven't seen SHIT.

At least Revenge has cool fights with the Transformers against each other, this doesn't. Not even Bumblebee vs Prime

Need I remind people that Marky Mark is a Texan with a Boston accent

I miss Shia a lot from these shitty ass movies. 2:30 hours too fucking long, doesn't follow it's own continuity, does everything over again to explain dumb shit.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COMPOSER STEVE JABLONSKY UNLEASHES
A TRANSFORMERS SCORE FOR THE AGES!

TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Soundtrack To Be Released Digitally by Paramount Music And On Limited Edition CD By La-La Land Records

(June 22nd, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Paramount Pictures will release TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT- MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE digitally on June 23, 2017, and La-La Land Records will release a limited edition 2-CD SET (of 3000 units) at www.lalalandrecords.com on July 11, 2017. These releases feature the film’s original motion picture score, composed by Steve Jablonsky (TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, ENDER’S GAME).

Jablonsky and TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT director Michael Bay continue an exciting, longstanding collaboration that has forged numerous cinematic blockbusters, including the previous four TRANSFORMERS films: TRANSFORMERS, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, TRANSFORMERS: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION.
“I met with Michael before he started shooting Transformers: The Last Knight,” recalled Jablonsky. “He showed me some amazing concept art and explained how the story connects the history of Transformers all the way back to the times of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. I loved the idea because it gave me the opportunity to explore new musical ideas… The storyline allowed me to write melodies that are a bit more “classical” than I’ve written for the other Transformers films, which was a lot of fun for me.”
“Another important aspect of the story revolves around massive skyscraper sized ‘horns from hell’ that start emerging from the earth,” describes Jablonsky. “They look like gigantic animal horns, no one knows what they are or why they have appeared. I wanted to create an unsettling sense of mystery and tension with the music.”

Jablonsky has composed the music for many of Hollywood’s most successful films. In addition to the legendary TRANSFORMERS film franchise, he previously created the music for director Bay’s dark comedy, PAIN & GAIN, as well as his 2005 futuristic thriller, THE ISLAND. In addition, Jablonsky composed the scores for Bay’s Platinum Dunes horror remakes A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, FRIDAY THE 13TH, THE HITCHER, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR.

The composer has also worked on multiple projects with director Peter Berg, including the action drama LONE SURVIVOR, starring Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch, and the action adventure BATTLESHIP, starring Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgård. He continued his collaboration with Berg on the action-thriller DEEPWATER HORIZON. Jablonsky also recently composed the score for the Keegan-Michael Key-Jordan Peele action-comedy KEANU, and the Michael Bay-produced action-adventure TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS.

The TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE will be available digitally from Paramount Pictures on June 23rd, 2017 and the limited edition 2-CD set is available from www.lalalandrecords.com on July 11, 2017.
