I hope to see an AOBG killcount on this because it's ridiculous how many people got wasted while solving the mystery of who killed a corrupt city official.

Seriously. Even if we exclude the first four episodes with the ridiculous Mexican shootout, there were way too many dead bodies.

Last episode alone there was:

Ray
Frank
Ossip plus all the other guys in the cabin(5+?)
Birdman
Catalyst guy
Mayor
Those guys Ray shot in the forest

Anyone else?

Surprised there are still people harping on VV's acting in this. He was the best thing in the show for the last few episodes. Not saying alot, but still... Frank and Ray were the only things holding this dreadful season together.

Franks death march was easily the highlight of the series for me. Beautifully shot and the look on his face when he realizes he's dead was just fantastic stuff

Vince Vaughn improved tenfold when the scripts finally ditched his awful monologues and staring contests. I was really hard on the guy earlier in the season but I think by the end of it that it was apparent that the fault lied on the script moreso than him. He entertained in the last couple tbh.

I enjoyed Frank's death march. I was rooting for him at that point. I wonder if he had taken off the damn suit would he have made it?

What happened between them?
No one knows for sure. There were plenty of rumors last year about "turmoil" between them during the production of the first season. Neither commented publicly.

The fact that Fukunaga didn't thank Pizzolatto when he won his Golden Globe was pretty telling, though.

It was probably just creativity and ego clashes.

You forgot Leonard (Lenny Osterman) and Police Chief Holloway.

Also, the Catalyst guy (Jacob McCandless) was in the cabin.

at last, for christ's sake
I'm watching episode 7 where they exposing the facts and I don't know Wtf they're talking about. Also, that orgy scene, ROFL. I've seen more naked buttocks on regular Monty Python programmes

The orgy was weak. There was so much hype and talk about it, but it was so tame and lame.

I have to say, i dunno if its because season 1 was so good but i did not enjoy season 2. I kept waiting for it to get interesting then it ended... Too many Matthew Mcconaughey characters imo and hella confusing.

The amount of hate in this thread is laughable. Shows like this are better than maybe 90% of the dramas out there. It was slow out of the gate, but it partially redeemed itself with the last 2 episodes. All in all, it was still a pretty decent season when you take it as a whole.

This. I really don't understand the hate. I might even go as far as saying I enjoyed it more than season 1. Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn were amazing. I wasn't sure about Vince most of the season but he killed it in the finale. I think it's just the character he was playing. Taylor Kitsch was really good as well.

What's laughable was this season's writing. But you go ahead with your fake percentages.

Agreed. Once the character started acting more like a real fucking person, Vince was pretty good. There are still probably some better actors that could have pulled off that excessively eloquent and loquacious, weird ass guy that he was supposed to be for the first two thirds of the season, but that kind of stuff isn't in many actors' wheelhouses I imagine.

The last two episodes were still pretty bad, and certainly not "better than 90% of dramas". It's like the first chunk of the season was so boring and starving people for action and actual plot progression, that when we finally got it, some people misinterpreted/overvalued that as greatness.

you either watched another show and posted in the wrong thread or you turned your brain off while watching this season and came here pretending that the hate it gets is not justified.

did they fire pizzaman yet

Well if you thought this better than season 1 and Vince Vaughn, hell even Colin Farrell, were amazing then there's no point in arguing.
It's gonna go nowhere. Gonna have to agree to disagree.

Imagine being so insecure in your admiration for something that you had to suspect that people who didn't like said thing were just pretending.

Yup, it's really strange. Not too surprising though. You see that kinda thing all the time on the gaming side.

Or everyone else can see how genuinely horrible this show was.

Idk man everything regarding entertainment is subjective but horrible?

Its not season one, I get that but not much else is going to be. That shit was amazing whereas this season was just pretty good if looking at it by itself. Im not really self-conscious but this thread is mostly a bunch of circle jerking about how bad the season is. Maybe I spoke strongly but I just didn't find it to be genuinely horrible.

I just watched the first episode, when Colin Ferrel beat the shit out of that kids father, man...

What am I in for, I loved the first season, is there good character development with Ferrel's character?

You can wash the taste out of your mouth when Beasts of No Nation premieres on Netflix.

Pizzaman is exposed hard this season, sadly. 2-dimensional characters, not-great performances.

I agree with people saying that the season was disappointing but saying it's a horrible show is too much. There are way worse shows out there that qualify as horrible, and this season is not one of them.

Sometimes I have the feeling it's either great or abysmal, nothing in between.

TD S2 was pretty much the most myopic and rote misery porn cable drama I can seem to recall in recent memory. It's not terrible (there is one show I can name that is actually just flat out capital B, Bad) but also it just does not bring anything unique to the landscape in a TV landscape that is so damn diverse and unique in their own ways.

If you want to say TD is the "one writer auteur cable show" then I would have to argue that there are also better shows that are all one writer driven and on the whole better than True Detective S2. Or even S1, really. At least a "mediocre, it's on NETWORK TELEVSION FOR GOD'S SAKE" show is probably more unique than TD S2 could dream of being.

So, did the actress give a blowjob to motorcycle guy or not?

Probably not. The show made a whole thing about him being in the closet. Unless he wanted to prove at that moment to himself he was straight. But still, I think not. Plus, if the girl got out from under that ticket that way, why would she make a stink after? Seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

I wish I had saved it but Stumpokapow had a great post in a random thread years ago that described this phenomena on GAF.

Maybe it's a fine line between great and shit. High risk, high return when it works; but also a high likelihood of a disaster when it doesn't. Or maybe bad things are much more potent than good things; if there's a sprinkle of shit in an otherwise amazing (or so you assume) cake, are you going to eat it?

In trying to rationalize why people's opinions are so polarized, you're looking in the wrong place: try looking at the material being evaluated, rather than the people evaluating it.

This post nails it:

Imagine being so insecure in your admiration for something that you had to suspect that people who didn't like said thing were just pretending.

The need for meta-commentary about people's motivations for why they dislike something is a sign of insecurity.

.

It's not as if this is the only topic that brings it out. Still I absolutely no issue with people not liking it. I can see the flaws for myself.

For me it was a 7 out of ten. Enjoyable, but nothing special. Its Walking Dead tier for me. Whereas season one was in the top tier of shows - breaking bad, sopranos, and until recently GOT (S5 brought the whole thing down a notch for me)...

Did anyone else get the impression that Velcoro's son was engaging in some school yard gambling and that's why he had the badge block with him? Seemed like there was a whole bunch of shit on the table with the other kids.

That's the impression I got too.

Everything in the finale was pretty solid in terms of this season's quality until Vince kept his jacket and Ray stopped to see his kid.... Just..... No.

I couldn't believe we were actually seeing pre-death hallucinations on a show from the same writer who gave us Rust's monologue about what he saw in all of those crime scene fatality photos.

And as someone who LOVES Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, even I scoffed incredulously at some random woman having a poster of it hung in her living room.

Man, the pizza-hate is in full force.

Again, we have to keep in mind that Pizzolato polished the first season's story over a period of 5-6 years.

I envy no man who has to write 8.5 hours worth of drama in less than a year and is expected to follow up that first season. That is beyond a monumental task. It feeling unpolished and scrappy isn't super surprising - I don't care how talented a writer you are.
Exactly. My biggest worry was how rushed it was compared to the first- and somehow I feel there was less critique laid on by friends or professionals, or he decided to ignore them. Who could say.

No one could write a show like the first in a year though, No one. What I felt he spat in S1 was Cormac McCarthy level in my eyes- never thought it could be topped in so little time... Unless a writing room was involved.

horrible writing is hardly subjective, not even sure what you mean with that. it's not at all about this season not being as good as the first one, and I think that this has been written 20 times already but whatever, guess I'll go back to polish my hater badge.
I mean, spend some time in actually reading the posts and the reasons of the hate, argue with those, don't make nonsensical and stupid statements like if no one here had legitimate reasons to complain about the show.

see, this season brought some good things after all. nic pizzalatte is much better than pizzaman, oh boy.
