To add to the Manafort thing. Page and Flynn both responded to the request and Flynn actually is getting subpoenaed. Page is still on talk shows and so is Page. Manafort who hasn't had interviews in forever.

I think the take away here is that, even if by some miracle there was zero collusion between Trump and Russia that doesn't mean the FBI is going to magically forget all of the illegal shit that Trump is currently doing regarding his finances.

Keep in mind there could be multiple Trump investigations we don't even know about.

In addition the lawfirm that did the "certified im totally not a russian collusion train wreck" had work with ROSENFIT, if im not mistaken

Jim comey doesnt have to testify, him testifying would more than likely give the trump camp munition agaisnt the mounting case.

If you are invested in seeing trump going down Comey NOT appearing now is probably the best thing. Especially not before the entire senate in a closed hearing.

Edit:
how many senators would relish the opportunity to run straight to the White House with any info? How many senators would love to come out and frame his testimony in whatever way seemed most dismissive of what no one outside gets to see?

Edit 2: every assessment you read (D or R) about Comey says above all the mission of the FBI was deeply important to him. He will do what he thinks is best for that rather than a impotent "clap back"

Edit 3: oh this is just the SIC not whole senate. Confused it with the DAG briefing next week.

It is better that he doesn't show up in a hearing so suddenly I think, he's remained calm and away from public appearances since the firing and instead has let Trump hang himself even more with all of this. The administration is tripping over itself left and right while incriminating themselves further even without Comey saying anything so there's no need for him to go to a hearing right now where all of the Republicans will be asking him about why he leaked and repeating the fake Trump talking points just to get another sound bite that they can use to twist his words. I'm sure Comey will be more than willing to appear when things heat up and proceedings against Trump have reached a point where he needs to testify.

At this point I'd wager both committees are compromised and Comey knows it. Any sensitive info he tells them will probably go straight to Trump, so best just not give them anything.

that was my thought too. Clearly the FBI is being undermined by members of the SIC so it seems like Comey's letting them handle their business without jeopardizing the investigation.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. He can testify before any of the GOP. He doesn't trust them.

It's better if he stays out. It seems like Trump is trying to bait him into injecting himself and then can claim, "Comey had it out for him" If the investigation is progressing there's no reason for Comey to say anything. I'd take silence as a good indicator there is substance to the allegations and ultimately will yield prosecution.

B) GOP would just ask idiotic unmasking questions


There is no C. There's no reason to testify until he's in a position to give evidence and he can't do that in this setting. Same as Sally Yates couldn't say what she knows.

right, "the bigger picture". for all we know, he's just feeling sad about the whole thing and wants some alone time. right now, all eyes are on this firing thing, who knows what comes next which could possibly make Comey's testimony too little, too late.

There could be MANY valid reasons for Comey to not want to testify behind closed doors to the Senate Intelligence Committee right now. There's probably zero upside to him doing so which is reason enough. What would he even have to tell them that wasn't "he said / she said" nonsense? This is nothing worth panicking about.

Because people on and related to that committtee are being investigated. This isn't a controversial theory.
