Incidentally, Secret Service budget for 2017 has been underfunded by $25 million.

"I'm not guilty, I did nothing wrong, I'm completely exonerated by these actions today. I only paid them a very very small portion of my fortunes in order to dedicate myself to preparing to run this nation with 100% of my focus. No distractions. That's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for this country, and it's just the first of many."

Or something along those lines.

Add a bigly, change most of the multisyllabic words, cut to 140 characters, and we've got a winner.

If I'm reading reports correctly, at "more than 5000" victims, the $25M settlement ( plus $1M to New York State in penalties) seems mind-bogglingly cheap given that most people paid between $15-$35k in fees on these courses? Most won't even break even?

Am I missing something here?

Probably a smart move for Trump, since this would have been incredibly humiliating for him.

I bet he wanted to fight it too. *roll eyes*

You think a settlement that on top of it doesn't admit wrong doing would give them back every cent they lost? Really?

But then why settle for so little? With his victory, they had him over a barrel. The case was a huge banana skin for Trump, an ongoing embarrassment that would hang over his inauguration and potentially roll on into his presidency.

As mind boggling as a sitting President settling a sexual misconduct case? Cuz that has happened as well.

That was dropped
Oh boy, because she was publicly pressured with death threats. Sounds like that thread of GamerGate -> Alt Right might not be too far off.

Probably grounds for impeachment if he loses the suit--that's a huge stain, not surprised he settled
No, it would not be grounds for impeachment. You can only be impeached for crimes committed during your term, and a civil fraud suit does not rise to the necessary level anyway.

Is this the first time he's ever settled or paid money to avoid a lawsuit? Maybe winning the election has changed him... Just kidding, he doesn't want to be deposed.

$25 million seems like a small amount for a billionaire.

Exactly. Just make the situation go away because now that you're the president, you have more important things to deal with. Pay the $25 million and make it go away, he's got more important shit to deal with now.

Was anyone here actually advocating that he continue to litigate the matter and be distracted over it while in office?

Yes, yes, he needs to figure out even more ways to screw people over. He clearly hasn't done enough of that yet.

Before he said he wouldn't pay a settlement out of principle. Now he's the fucking president, and decided to eat that $25 million so he can focus on more important matters. What did you want him to do here?

I wanted him to get dragged in court.

The definition of "settle" will be changed to "winning" in the 2017 edition of Merriam-Webster.

I'm fairly certain scamming thousands of people out millions of dollars is extremely important, but who cares about that, right?
