Americans named Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama as their most admired woman and man in the world in 2015, with Donald Trump earning the same share of admiration as Pope Francis, according to the results of the latest Gallup survey released Monday.

On the list of most admired women, the Democratic presidential front-runner earned 13 percent and was at the top of the annual poll for a record 20th time, seven more times than former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Obama earned 17 percent on the men's side, his eighth time atop the list, tying for second most with former presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower was named the most admired man 12 times.

Don't bury the lede. Obama and Hilary are number one.

Seems about right if you're aware of the demographics.

Trump running for Pope when he fails against Hillary. Are you ready for the Trumpope? Make the Church great again.

lol @ Ben Carson beating the Dalai Lama.

(I know, the numbers are mainly and obviously caused by the currently publicity of presidential candidates, but that's still funny.)

I consider the lede to be America's esteem for Trump matching the Pope.

Seems about right, though, especially if you cavort amongst Republicans, which I do at work lol.

Half the country are Republicans and he's invigorated the base.

Is this how a certain German guy got elected?

Even disregarding everything else, in this poll Hillary Clinton is more popular than Donald Trump.

Also relevant from the article:

Trump's surprisingly strong and often controversial presidential campaign has made him a prominent news figure this year and, thus, top-of-mind for many Americans. This helps explain his strong showing when Gallup asks Americans, in an open-ended fashion, to name the man they admire most. The successful businessman has finished in the top 10 four other times, including from 1988 through 1990 and in 2011.

Most Christians in America aren't Catholic so the popes numbers are never going to be high in the US and Trump gets a lot of media attention lately so his numbers are going to be inflated.

His party did. Not the most free elections, but there were elections.

Well yeah, but....

Not from the election, but you get the picture how it worked back then.

Clinton is the most admired woman? This surprises me.

She also has the most #1 finishes of any person, male or female, in the history of the question. Considering the sitting president tends to always win, that number is likely to only further increase.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Who are these people who support trump?! Sure I see them on YouTube and twitter but those people aren't real! I have not met a single person in flesh and blood that likes this person so either they're all operating on the down-low or everyone of them online is a troll. Granted I live in Southern California but its a part of SoCal with a higher percentage of Conservatives than normal for SoCal but I have not met anyone who is a trump fan and that's not statically plausible given his popularity so are people online just trolls or is trump breaking the laws of probability?!

There are a lot of secret Trump fans; a very large portion won't admit they support him IRL.

I don't understand this. My grandmother likes Trump. Why grandma why?! I think a lot of people have trust issues with politicians these days. Trump is like the anti-politician. He pretty much doesn't give a fuck and keeps it real (for better or worse). A lot of people appreciate that, especially older people. Of course when it comes to actually running the country...

He will not win the election. If he does though I want to move. GAF what is a solid country to inhabit these days? Also, I'll need a job in network security. Thanks.

Yeah it was a massive deal when Kennedy was elected that he was Catholic.

Edit: It was held against him and he got lucky that TV started becoming a thing. In radio spots, Nixon came out ahead. But Kennedy looked better and came off more natural visually to where he was able to overcome the Catholic issue.

I swear, US, if that guy wins any election that's actually important, I'd be super mad at you!

You don't consider a black man being the most admired man in the country - more so than the pope - lede-worthy?
I feel like OP is kind of burying the lead here, given that Obama and Clinton were named #1...

Well

He gets a lot of mentions and for good reason. Obama is fantastic but he has no chance of winning the next election. Trump is a concern and one that refuses to go away.
