Trump to introduce immigration plan. Campaign denies path to citizenship

So Trump is in dire straights pollingwise and he knows it. After trying to convince black people to vpte for him because they are poor and have nothing to loose, he is now trying to win over latin voters by offering amnesty.

However given what he said in the past about latins, mexicans in particular, i doubt mand people will believe him

what kind of reasonable amnesty plan could one have that isn't basically proposed by democrats already

james franco it's different but the same .gif

trump's best case scenario is that his base believes this is just a word service to get people to his side and maybe he actually does (i doubt there's a scenario where it would after a year of anti-immigration and racist rhetoric).

his worst-case scenario is that no one believes him and he angers part of his base. seems like a bad move to make this late in the game. if he was going to change positions, he should have done it in the primaries.

So his camp is thinking that people will forget the whole wall and rapist thing because he's going the amnesty route?

So his camp is thinking that people will forget the whole wall and rapist thing because he's going the amnesty route?
The only way this kind of move would make sense to me is if they're somehow convinced the base won't abandon him (because what are they going to do, vote Hillary?), and they believe the latino population in the US are secretly Republicans deep down who just need an olive branch or two to earn their vote.

EDIT: In fact, if this really does happen, then that could actually mean all those speeches "targeted" at the black community were, in fact, actually targeted at the black community, and weren't just a ploy to convince people he isn't racist.

Let's ask Free Republic!
The source is Univsion? Really? Hmmmm.

Could be case of scummy migrants trying to make Trump lose support by lying bout him and his plans.

Trump does like solutions rather than ideology. He’s a pragmatist. I can see him doing something like this.

He told Savage recently that he wasn’t budging on his immigration policy.

It’s not either or with Trump.

I seriously doubt the veracity of this, particularly coming from Univision.

You’re posting Univision articles?

Gezuz.

It was his toughness on illegal immigration that made him popular in the first place. If true, someone must have gotten to him.

Damn. He was our last hope. I really, really hope this isn’t true.

Sonofabit*ch! You’re another one who’s been around years yet rarely makes a comment...Then ya cough up with a story from a Univison source?

The pattern is repeating itself.

Hillary’s campaign must be scared s**t less if her media minions are pumping out BS articles like this...

Don’t worry. Have a little faith. Trump is not going to back off. They are just trying to deliberately misrepresent things he said — as usual.

I agree. If this report is correct, Trump is moving to the left of Romney in the 2012 primary, at least, and those millions of voters who sat home then will sit home in November.

So much for Trump “always telling the truth” and “not being a politician”.

Well, always the media stirs the pot trying to depress support for Trump among conservatives. Hold your horses and don’t be a media dupe, FRiend.

Even if he comes out with the touch-back amnesty that the GOPe tried to slip by us in the last decade, that’ll destroy our country—and the morale of planned Trump voters in November.

It’s called voter suppression and how the kenyan won in 2012. The Dems know nobody will vote FOR Hillary. So every GOP vote that stays home is a defacto vote for her.

IT is GOING TO BE a slaughter unless she drops out... and the damned dems KNOW IT... Hillary MUST be replaced, but it is very nearly too late, even for that now

I don't think that the Clintonistas will go quietly, even if they need to hire Lenin's makeup artist to give her a touch-up before every appearance. If it becomes obvious that she requires replacement, hopefully it will be much too late to do anything about it.

Speaking of which -- what HAS she been doing for the last few days? It's unusual to take off 5 days in the middle of a campaign. Bubba's 70th birthday is the excuse but I suspect some surgery -- plastic or otherwise.

Interesting move by Trump. He will probably ruin it by saying they will receive amnesty if they build the wall for him with no pay.

It will be his great pyramid of Giza

What parallel universe does these person live in?

Ive been paying some attention to gary johnson, the guy is literally right up my alley, but sadly its a lost cause. Maybe ill vote for him just to vote for someone I like, even if it is a lost cause. But depending on how bad things get with either clinton or trump, it may not be wise to waste a vote.

He's literally right up your alley? As in he's your neighbor?

Change the policies, get in and then execute the real plan.

This is a fight not just for the Presidency, but political legitimacy. Bannon knows the only way to actually get things done is from the inside. Gotta get inside first, though.

I might just be panicking here but I am legit terrified that this will work for Trump.

This is my thought as well. There is absolutely nothing stopping them from completely lying to appeal to the middle and then reverting to their Fascist ways once in office. With Ailes and Bannon on board, the goal is to win "at any cost".

So he starts his campaign by saying Mexican immigrants are rapists and criminals and now he wants amnesty? Fuck off, you lying sack of shit.

"I'll get rid of the murderers and rapists. We'll process them. Then we'll keep the good ones, because, you know, there's... I'm a business man. I'm going to make lots of jobs. Too many jobs. So many there will be a surplus of jobs. The blacks won't be in poverty anymore and we'll need these Mexicans for all the jobs. Everyone will be employed. More jobs than crooked shillary could imagine. She isn't even thinking of jobs! Sad!"

I don't think many people will fall for trump's flip flop on this issue if he does flip flop on it. I wonder what else he will flip flop on at this point.

Also there are things that are going to keep getting brought up on news channels every single time Trump tries to pivot towards Hispanics.

Previous comments about Mexicans being rapists.

The thing with the judge.

His horrible poll numbers with Hispanics, aka he's desperate.

Yeah...I'm not believing this for one damn second. Your boat To become president left you a loooong time ago, trump. And this certainly won't help you in the slightest.

Debates should be a lot of fun.

Is the strategy here just to straight up lie about policies? You ran on a completely opposite premise.

Crazy levels of desperation from this campaign if this is true.

The anti-trump ads are going to be next level. As recently as 2 weeks ago you were emphasizing how immigrants were rapists and a murderers.

The point is -- the point always was to get *attention*

That succeeded. He got the attention, he got the news coverage.

It's now time for him to act Presidential, which he is now attempting to do.

Motherfucking president don't go into a shouting match the parents of dead soldier. That's when he lost the voters.

I'd like to see him really embrace gay rights.

That would be re-embrace.

*glances at Trump's proposed list of SCOTUS nominees.*

Riiiight.

He can be as personally positive as he wants on gay rights. If his judicial nominees are basically winking to red states, "hey, do with the gays what you want - we won't stop you," then pardon me if I'm a bit incredulous at seeing him as "embracing" gay rights.

I hope you are able to feel comfortable starting a life here, bud. There are lots of us who welcome that.

Admittedly, I feel less and less comfortable with every day.

Thankfully, right now I'm studying in Boston. Not once has someone not been nice and welcoming to me.

Don't fall for the lies America. Trump is making it quite clear he'll say anything to get elected. Pander to his white supremicist base, pander to them "ethnics", Trump doesn't care. A lying fraud.

Let's ask Free Republic!

oops, that's from the where's hillary thread

I can just imagine the level of head trauma by his demented white supremist base if/when Trump calls for a general amnesty.

rJnzPwT.gif

It would be carnage over on Breitbart and The_Donald.

This reeks of desperation.

It does but it also feels like this is largely influenced by Manafort getting bumped and Ailes and that other guy being acquired as campaign managers.

One or both of them definitely always wanted this so they worked pretty hard to get Trump to flip flop on one of the few things he was consistent on.

I wasn't talking about this second Trump presidential campaign.

But the first:
What would you do to combat antigay prejudice?

I like the idea of amending the 1964 Civil Rights Act to include a ban of discrimination based on sexual orientation. It would be simple. It would be straightforward. We don’t need to rewrite the laws currently on the books, although I do think we need to address hate-crimes legislation. But amending the Civil Rights Act would grant the same protection to gay people that we give to other Americans — it’s only fair.
Do you think gay people should be allowed to serve in the military?

Yes, if a gay person can be a doctor or a lawyer or a teacher or take another position of responsibility, why can't they serve this country in the military? “Don’t ask, don’t tell” has clearly failed. Gay people serve effectively in the military in a number of European countries. There is no reason why they can’t serve in the United States. Frankly, the state of our military is a wreck. Military pay is a joke, military benefits are ridiculous, and we can’t attract the kind of quality people we need to have an effective fighting force. The Pentagon is wasting millions on weapons they don’t need instead of focusing on the military needs in the changing world situation. The truth is, our nation defense is in the weakest state since Pearl Harbor. I favor a total reorganization of all branches of our military, and I would address the gay question more forthrightly within that reorganization.
Are you running just to beat Pat Buchanan?

I used to like Pat. I was on Crossfire with him. I thought he was a nice guy. Then I read the things he had written about Hitler, Jews, blacks, gays, and Mexicans. I mean, I think it’s disgusting. That speech he made at the ’92 Republican convention was a disaster. He wants to divide Americans. Clearly, he has a love affair with Adolf Hitler, and that’s sick. Buchanan actually said gay people had chosen “satan[ism] and suicide.” Now he says he welcomes gay people into his campaign. The guy is a hypocrite.
If you wanted to accomplish four things as president, what would they be?

My number 1 goal would be to make our economy boom. My plan to impose a onetime net worth tax of 14.25% on the superwealthy, when combined with our current projected surpluses, will raise enough to pay off the national debt. That would save us $200 billion a year in interest. I’d use half the savings to cut taxes for the middle class. I’d use the other half to fund Social Security and finance a new health care system.

Second, I’d like to end the rip-off of America by our allies. We pay for their defense, and they screw us with their trade policies. I would appoint myself U.S. trade representative and conduct the negotiations with our major trading partners myself — and I guarantee you the rip-off of America would end.

Third, I would press for universal health care. It’s ridiculous that the richest country on Earth can’t provide first-rate health care for our people. I would put forward a comprehensive health care program and fund it with an increase in corporate taxes. I’d strictly regulate the pharmaceutical firms to end these 500% profits on drugs that are cheap to produce. I like the Canadian system, although their health care is not the best. If you combine their system with the quality of our health care, we could provide cradle-to-grave health care for everyone.

Last, I’d like to restore the spirit of America. I don't think we’ve had the American spirit much in recent years. The last leader to inspire confidence and build the American spirit was Ronald Reagan. I don’t agree with everything he did, but I agree with a lot — and I have to admit, I liked his style. I also want to see a greater atmosphere of tolerance. The dragging death of James Byrd in Texas or the murder of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming is a national disgrace. We must have a more tolerant society.
How did you feel when you heard about the Shepard murder?

It turned my stomach. I have a son who is about the same age as Matthew Shepard and is a student at Wharton. The idea somebody would beat a young man to death just because he is different is almost hard to fathom. I hope that the boy’s death is not in vain and that the public revulsion about this case can be harnessed in a way that prevents this kind of hideous crime from happening again.

Does that mean you’d support hate-crimes legislation?

Absolutely. This is one of my great disappointments with George W. Bush. He had the opportunity in Texas to show national leadership by passing a hate-crimes bill but didn’t — presumably from pressure form the Christian right. When somebody is victimized because of their ethnicity, the color of their skin, or their sexual orientation, that must carry a harsh penalty.

Bush had refused to meet with the Log Cabin Republicans. Would you meet with groups advocating gay rights, such as the Human Rights Campaign?

If I decide to run, I would meet with any law-abiding group representing legitimate public interests. I remember when Bob Dole refused a campaign contribution from the Log Cabin Republicans in order to pander to the religious right — a big mistake. Now I think Governor Bush is making the same mistake. If I run, my campaign would be inclusive, and I would reach out to everyone.

Steffen Schmidt, an Iowa State political science professor who's studied the caucuses for 40 years, says the fate of Trump's candidacy is a no-brainer once Iowans learn of his past positions on issues including gay rights. "The moment at which Donald Trump's campaign collapses is the moment the 18 or 20 other candidates bring up these views and chop him off at the knees," Schmidt says. "I have no idea why he thinks he could launch his campaign in Iowa, but he'd probably be successful launching it in Las Vegas."
you're fired

What if only immigrants who agree to help build the wall, both with money and labor, get amnesty?

Sounds like a Trump plan to me.

Amnesty makes economic sense by this point.

Why wouldn't anyone be for it?
FOREIGN INVADERS BROKE THE LAW, STEALING TAX DOLLARS, UNDER ORDERS OF FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS, COULD BE TERRORISTS, THEY SEND US THE WORSE OF THE WORSE ON PURPOSE

A NATION IS NOT A NATION WITHOUT CONTROL OVERS IT BORDERS, LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

It's a desperation attempt from the trump camp not sure why you are worried about this. This move is simply because he is getting annihilated when it comes to educated voters. If he can't close the gap he's going to be destroyed in November. Can't undo all the shit he's done.

Get out of here with that false elitism.

You don't need to be educated to be against trump. You're insight isn't nuanced.

I mean you have this guy who had someone who organized violent protests against US troops as his campaign manager, someone who attacked the family of a fallen soldier, someone who mocked a disabled reporter, someone who advocated violence against protestors at his rally, someone who called for his political opponent to be assassinated, who asked repeatedly "if we have nukes why don't we use them."

Naw though you need to "research" to decide your candidate.

And let's not forget the most wonderful stuff he said when he was trying to get the black vote, when in actuality, he was trying to get the undecided voters. And by wonderful I mean horrendous. Seriously, you have to do research? When there are mountains upon mountains of articles that go back to the beginning of his campaign? That you can even find here. Really? Dude please....
