Trump will ask for investigation into alleged voter fraud

Mr. Trump kicked off the meeting [with House and Senate leaders], participants said, by retelling his debunked claim that he would have won the popular vote if not for the three million to five million ballots cast by “illegals.” He followed it up with a Twitter post early Wednesday calling for a major investigation into voter fraud.

When one of the Democrats protested, Mr. Trump said he was told a story by “the very famous golfer, Bernhard Langer,” whom he described as a friend, according to three staff members who were in the room for the meeting.

In the emerging Trump era, the story was a memorable example, for the legislators and the country, of how an off-the-cuff yarn — unverifiable and of confusing origin — became a prime policy mover for a president whose fact-gathering owes more to the oral tradition than the written word.

The three witnesses recall the story this way: Mr. Langer, a 59-year-old native of Bavaria, Germany — a winner of the Masters twice and of more than 100 events on major professional golf tours around the world — was standing in line at a polling place near his home in Florida on Election Day, the president explained, when an official informed Mr. Langer he would not be able to vote.

Ahead of and behind Mr. Langer were voters who did not look as if they should be allowed to vote, Mr. Trump said, according to the staff members — but they were nonetheless permitted to cast provisional ballots. The president threw out the names of Latin American countries that the voters might have come from.

Mr. Langer, whom he described as a supporter, left feeling frustrated, he said.

The anecdote, the aides said, was greeted with silence, and Mr. Trump was prodded to change the subject by Reince Priebus, the White House chief of staff, and Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas.

Just one problem: Mr. Langer, who lives in Boca Raton, Fla., is a German citizen with permanent residence status in the United States who is, by law, barred from voting, according to Mr. Langer’s daughter Christina.

“He is a citizen of Germany,” she said, when reached on her father’s cellphone. “He is not a friend of President Trump’s, and I don’t know why he would talk about him.”

She said her father was “very busy” and would not be able to answer any questions.

But a senior White House staff member, who was not at the Monday reception but has heard Mr. Trump tell the story, said Mr. Langer saw Mr. Trump in Florida during the Thanksgiving break and told him the story of a friend of Mr. Langer’s who had been blocked from voting.

I would say something about this man that we already knew. Just. At this point in may be more beneficial to get his advisers to see reason on this absurdity and speak to Trump to dissuade him.

Man I had it all wrong. I thought Trump was an evil fuck that was peddling shit just to get elected. Nope, he actually believes this shit and that's fucking scary. We elected an old racist grandpa that only gets his news from Fox.
 
So they are targeting blue states and not limiting themselves to 2016?

Anyone else want to tell me it's just about trumps ego and I am a conspiracy theorist for stating the whole time it's been a calculated move to suppress voters, and the trump tantrums is to solidify support amongst his voters and to disarm liberals into laughing at him over bruised egos instead of starting to organize to fight the guaranteed efforts to install new laws?

I'm under the belief that this is all a cover to legally jail people that did not vote for him, if not just financially punish states that he lost in.

He fucking won. He fucking won and his ego is so big that he feels he needs to punish people for not voting for him. Either that or he actually believes this.
 
Smart idea in that he's able to find 'evidence' which then justifies strict voter ID laws, which, when combined with massive barriers to getting the ID, will make the US republican for the next thirty years.
 
I'd say Trump is Pandora's Box but we always new what we were getting. At least those of us paying attention. Our only hope is that the people in charge of doing this lower down in the totem pole actually give a fuck about what it means to be an American and leak when stats are going to be messed with. Since you know inevitably they will be.

I'd say vote for Democrats in 2018 but I can't even imagine the political landscape a year out from now.
 
This whole thing has been telegraphed from the beginning as a way to further suppress the minority vote.

This used to be a behind closed doors discussion. At least they are bold enough to bring it into the light now? I'm still trying to find bright sides.

I think his calculator literally gave him 2.4 and just added million on to the end and that's how he got that number.
 
the dumbest part of all this is that he (and a bunch of republicans) believe that voter fraud on this scale happens somehow yet that none could possibly be voting for their side. This massive crime spree perpetrated by all these illegals only and all of them vote for the dems. Set aside that his assertion that this is happening for a second, it would be mathematically impossible for all these illegal votes to go to just them dems. on top of that, if it's so easy for all these illegals to vote twice with having no documents and not having the best grasp of the language, then why wouldn't more of his zealous supports be doing it too to combat the illegals? just on human nature all his millions of supporters, some of them have to have less than stellar ethics for them to try to do the same thing on his side.

Literally fueled by racists thoughts and an inability to accept that a fuck ton of people don't want him. Next he'll be claiming that all the votes the dems got were counted wrong and that of course everyone in the country really voted for him

you can't just investigate california and new york and then draw a conclusion that X% of all voter fraud was in favor of a certain candidate

has he fired everyone who had a clue about how to analyze data?
