Okay, last week BestBuy was selling the Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 40gig player for $219 + tax -$20 mail-in rebate. I printed out a 10% off coupon that I found on Fatwallet and waltzed out with that player for $211 total and still got the $20MIR. Now today BB is running a sweet deal on the Iriver H320 for $279 + tax -$30 MIR. I happen to have another copy of the 10% off coupon, which expires TODAY, that would allow me to get the player for $251 + tax -$30MIR.

Pros & cons for the Zen:
+40 freakin' gig of storage
+can drag & drop music files without needing software
+is cheaper overall
+easily-replaceable battery
+headphone amp is very good
+make that a one-year warranty, per the box (I didn't open it yet). For some reason, Creative's site says 90 dys.
-build quality is kinda suspect-I had a demo unit of the Zen 30gig kinda fall apart in my hands once
-no remote, period.
-cannot play videos (but I have a portable DVD player that can)
-apparently, you need Creative's software to build playlists
-no FM radio (but I don't need it)

Pros & cons for the H320:
+built like a brick
+can drag & drop as well
+2 inch color display
+can play video files using a firmware flash as detailed on misticriver.net
+remote available via Iriver
+has FM radio (but, again, I don't need it)
+one year warranty
+can create playlists using Winamp
-more expensive overall
-2 inch display really tiny to play videos on
-battery cannot be replaced by user
-half the storage (20 gig) of the Zen

Whaddaya guys think? And, please, no one say frickin' Ipod-most of my music is ripped in 128k WMA and I am not re-ripping it.

the iriver is nice, but try to see if can find the H120, it has a far superior design and ease of navigation

I thought that too, but the only store in my area that carries it is CompUSA, and they are still asking $300 for it. Idiots.

Neither.

Get a Gmini 440 - 20 gig for your music and MP3s and plenty left over for sticking your movies and TV episodes in DVIX/Mpeg 4 on. :D Roughly same size as an IPOD.

Don't you mean the Gmini 400? Or is there an updated version I'm not aware about? This is the player that I would love to own.

I'd go with the Zen. When it comes right down to it, how often are you REALLY going to watch a video with the thing, and in the long run, having a battery you can swap out is probably going to be a lot more practical than some "Hey, neat!" feature thrown in to satiate the Slashdot crowd.

Y'know, if someone is going to change the title of my post, at least have the courage to claim you did so. For that matter, we can close this little topic, as I've decided to keep the Zen. Thank you for your time.
