Trying to quit smoking...

I am trying to quit as well, today is 4th day without cigarettes and the desire to light up is really strong.

Remember that the only thing you need to do to quit is not do it

It gets easier as you go, believe me. I was a pack a day for a long while

Find something to distract you. Even if its as dumb as chewing gum, bouncing a bouncy ball, or having a wank

The second you cave, is the second you lose

Stay away from other smokers for a while if possible, they dont help

Anyone trying to quit don't give up! Even if it takes 500 attempts keep trying and you will get it one day and be so glad you did.

I could go a month or two at times and then fall back. It is tough and you cannot even have one so don't lie to yourself and think just one or even a puff is ok.

This won't be an option for everyone but switching to weed helped me quit. I was also down to only smoking 1 or 2 cigarettes a day so it was easier to replace. I knew that it would easier to give up weed then cigarettes. I found the weed took my mind off of smoking (if you currently smoke both this won't be an option for you). I would say after about a year I had no more desire for cigarettes and I eventually went to vaping weed instead of smoking it. Then i quit using weed and have been sober ever since.

I started smoking at the age of 15 and one day I was fed up because smoking is an enemy of my Crohn's and I quitted immediately in ONE DAY

Those gums are a joke, vaping is a joke too and no it isn't any better option. How mentally strong are you? If you have the will you'll stick to it immediately
This is pretty much my story too. One day I just got fed up and quit cold turkey. When people ask me what's my secret. I just tell them that you will quit when you want to quit. There are ways to make it easier, but it has to start with you and your mental fortitude.

Set goals. 21 days is a major milestone. Use the money you would have spent on cigarettes to treat yourself to a nice meal or game etc..

You can do it. You just have to be ready.

good luck man. it's tough but your body will thank you.

imo replace your cigs with something else. get a bag of pretzels or something. or some nice mineral water. or a coke. anything is better than a cigarette. if you need a fix of something...

The only good thing about the lock downs this year for me was me stopping smoking. The fiancee hates it when I smoke and I normally would smoke on work breaks at the office. Been working from home since March of last year and I have pretty much kicked the habit. Had a smoke last week but was the first time in months. The craving will always be there. It's just not as strong as before.

I highly recommended Chantix. Talk to your doctor. Makes it super easy to quit, like magic. At least when I tried it.

I quit a few years back, and for whatever reason it was pretty easy for me. I couldn’t stand smelling like actual garbage. When I hadn’t had one in an hour or so I’d catch a whiff of another smoker and just think “do I fucking smell like that?”

Try sucking on the strongest mints you can find every time you feel like a smoke or alternatively brushing your teeth.

After 3 days the nicotine is now out of your system so it's all in your head now.

Smoking is like eating superfluous sugar, both addictive... You need to convince your subconscious to go along with your decisions.. like, can you tell when you say to yourself "that's the last one" and some part of your body is like "ima let you finish but hell naw"? You gotta get to a point where you and your subconscious are like mike d and flava flav you gotta say "I'm Done With xteen Years Of Addiction" and your subconscious gotta be like "yeeeeaaaaa BOOIIII"

...so says cuautemoc, eagle warrior of tenochtitlan.

I started smoking when I was 16. I quick when I turned 29. It's a costly habit that kills ya. I wanted to have kids and not explain why dad smokes. So I just cold turkey quit. I was so pissy for the first 2 weeks. I threw myself into my work and it was fine after that. I'm sure my co workers thought I was an asshole but I let them know I was quiting and they all were positive about it.

Good luck you can do this!

If you want to quit then cut out those trigger smokes. Like every time you get in the car or go outside. Get down to the strong craving triggers only like when you wake up, after you eat, etc. If you can get down to 5 or so a day then start with the patch in the morning (2nd highest) have that first smoke if you need it. Find a candy (I used wintergreen mints) or something that you can keep on you to eat when you get that urge. Take the patch off an hour after supper (gotta fulfill that post supper craving). Your going to have urges at night so find those candies or whatever works for you and fight through the rest night before bed. Avoid alcohol because it's a serious trigger. Do not wear the patch to bed, you'll murder people in your dreams and shit, it's fucked up.

Step down patch stages after 2 weeks and you should be done in a month. That morning smoke will start to become less enjoyable because you'll regain your sense of taste and smell.

If you do get drunk buy a cigar, it's bad, strong and you'll regret it the next day. The key is will power and regaining your senses of taste and smell so you recognize how stinky smoking is.

Also treat yourself with rewards every week with the money you have saved, buy something that you want. It gives you that extra motivation that you'll need. You can reap the rewards of your hard work later but for now keep the same budget and reward yourself.

Good luck.

I tried a couple of years ago, even made a GAF thread about it. Didn't work. Smoking is just too good. I know people will encourage you to quit and they're right, shit isn't healthy. But you will never not miss it, at least I've accepted that for me when I make another run at it.
