Don’t get me wrong I’ll probably get one cuz I’m an idiot. But the hype around here is batshit stupid for this.
That makes both of us.

I am a sucker for new gaming hardware in general. regardless if it's a Nvidia card or a new console.

but the PS5 Pro in general is the only system so far that I do not have much hype for. mainly because Ido not know what to expect but I know it's still weaker than a 3080. But... give me Gt7 PS5 pro treatment and i am probably there on day one..

will see... The 9 mins isn't enough for anything tomorrow. so I am just guessing it's barely just a tech talk about the PS5 pro architecture or PSSR in general.

These are code names.

Unsure if Trinity is the code name for the PS5 Pro or a game.

Royal is 100% a game.

Pretty sure we'll see Ghost of Tsushima 2 featured on PS5 Pro at TGS. Hopefully this is the Red Dead Redemption 2 of Samurai/Ninja games.

There he is!

How do you market the PS5 Pro?

Very easily... you market it as the most powerful console in the history of gaming...

Highest resolution, most frame rate, greatest fidelity and rtx...

There is no Xbox One X competition here. Anyone who wants to play every game at peak performance has to get PS5 Pro unless they want to go PC.

That just doesn't feed into what DF wants though. They want console wars. After a while, people will get tired of watching PS5 vs PS5 Pro comp videos. And who will care about PS5 vs XSX comp videos when PS5 Pro exists.

It's a hard time for them.

Apologies if I come across like a wanker, but I've had two gaming PC's over the years and they set me back just over 3k a piece from memory! I'm happy to pay the £600 for simplicity of plug in a play with eye candy graphics.
No worries lol. Money is not an issue for me but for an average console thats pretty darn high. My GPU is costs more than this alone.

Not that I'm raring to go out and buy one I barely play my PS5 as it is. For those who do though, its a no brainer upgrade.

Well whatever its gonna be, its probably still much cheaper than getting an actual gaming PC. I just configured a few ones and yeah... even at 600 bucks the console would be a steal. And I know all the arguments guys, but I do actually have a desktop PC and Laptop, but they arent really made for gaming anymore. I just need something to game on.

I bought my PS5 at launch and honestly, for 400 Euros that thing was a steal. I dont mind selling it and buying a new one for 600, if that finally gives me some good image quality and 60 fps. I know its not gonna be 4K60, I dont expect that, but stable 1440p with high quality upscaling at 60 fps even for demanding games would be nice and I think realistic, seeing how games still need to target the base PS5 and XS.

So you can probably count me in.

Correction: Stronger than a 3080Ti, weaker than a 3090.

I’m kind of in the same boat having a 4090 and the PC that can support and a 3080 on another. High-end PC gaming on current gen games has been kind of a disappointment to me due with all the stutters and the price of upgrading. Maybe I’m just over it. Yeah I’m absolutely gonna lose some eye candy but the trade offer for simplicity and stuff working usually just good enough. I’m fine with at this point. Not trying to start a PC versus console debate as they both have great merits, just kind of explaining why this console probably exist, catering to people like myself. Want something a little bit better than what you can currently get presently for a decent price comparatively to a lot of other hardware to buy separately to get better performance on PC. Which was kind of the explanation for the PS4 Pro if I’m remembering correctly as well, I guess you got me again Sony.

PSSR coming to ps5
It certainly could do with a few caveats on a base PS5 going by the ML AI upscaler solution in GoW Ragnarok to upscale 2K to 4K textures.

Realistically if they want to bring a Pro level PSSR experience to an OG PS5 I'd be guessing they'd do it with an NPU solution via the NVME SSD expansion port, where they could sell PS5 specific NVME SSDs that were physically smaller and could live in that same space with a NPU expansion board to run the PSSR.

I just want to see their upscaling solution compared to FSR and DLSS.
That's what I'm most excited about. However I think it will already born outdated since I bet it won't include any frame generation solution which is the new fun tech.

Imagine how awesome it would be if they provided a native frame gen solution for old PS4 titles still playing at 30fps? Or even allow us to play 60fps PS4 titles at 120fps. Bloodborne at 60fps with no need for patches whatsoever.

Just ordered a PS5 Slim disc drive. Just in case there are a run on them tomorrow. Would be reallllly shitty if these drives don't work on PS5 Pro, but taking a leap of faith here. But I got 60 days return from Best Buy so not worried.

This is concerning to me. At this point with the PS4 pro, we already had reports of Sony mandating games publish with support for Pro functions months prior to the release of the PS4 Pro. This time, we have heard nothing.

I don't know if a mandate to support it will even be in place.

However even if it isn't, console games are much more scalable now. Many games use dynamic resolution or have unlocked framerates which are just waiting to tap into more powerful hardware. A lot of PS4 games already did that when they were played on PS5 via backwards compatibility. Some games were even able to up the quality of visuals effects like shadow resolution.

A bespoke patch will always be the best way but I think many games are already Pro ready in some ways.

I hope retailers have enough disc drives in inventory because if the rumors are true that Sony is releasing the digital version first, those disc drives are going to go quick.

True

Got to be ready to pre-order like...fast. I made the mistake of not doing that with PS5 and completely under estimated the demand. If I'm not able to pre-order from Amazon or something right away, I might wait till next year anyway as I don't even have the time to really enjoy it and most of what I'm playing this fall, I'm doubtful will get much use out of the Pro anyway.

edit OH YEA AC Shadows! Ok, so I do have a title that likely will use the fuck out of Pro...maybe I'll pre-order it right away then.

LOL.. I just did the same thing here in Australia.

In my mind, it makes perfect sense for them to mass produce one version of the Pro without a disc drive and design it around the already produced slim disc drive and utilise that.. It's just business 101. I would be surprised if they didn't.
