TV Shows that people went crazy over, but in retrospect were kinda dumb or bad

Ehm...of course it's their opinion.
What else could it be?

Yes, I know it is their opinion, but people are stating their opinion as fact. Lost, Breaking Bad, GOT, Etc are not bad shows, someone may not like it, that does not make it bad, it means they don't like it.

I'm not going to defend Lost, because it has lots of problems, but that's ("making shit up as they go") what happens on 99.9% of shows. As it should. Creative endeavors aren't locked in on day one.
See this post:
But, you know, when your show revolves around a big mystery it might help to have some idea what the fuck it is supposed to be about.
Exactly. It's bait and switch bullshit.

There is a quite easy solution to this: Don't get offended by other peoples opinions.

Should they start or end their post with "in my opinion"?

Game of Thrones went from being one of the best shows on television and in contention for a top 10 spot overall, to fanfiction level at about Season 5.

Breaking Bad was thrilling and addicting, but not on the same level as The Sopranos and The Wire and shouldn't be part of the same conversation.

I came in knowing the thread will devolve into bashing current popular opinions, even if there's not much basis for it.

Was not disappointed.

The OP was correct in naming shows like True Blood, Glee, Sherlock and others. Maybe even LOST.

But, please, GoT might have gotten weaker as they ran out of books, but nowhere near as bad as those other shows.

depends on how you feel about book vs. show. is it still fanfiction if when GRRM finishes the books and the general plot is similar?

Lost was saved by its characters. Sawyer, Ben, Locke, Desmond, Juliet, Hurley, etc. are some of the most beloved characters in TV history, and for good reason.

The mysteries ultimately didn't matter, and that's why Lost will stand the test of time.

Lost.

So god damn bad. The acting was just so fucking shit

Utter nonsense. Lost had one of the best ensembles ever assembled. There were weak spots (Kate, Claire) but there were at least six different actors that could carry a given episode.

I haven't read the books, but I would assume that even if they end similarly, that the paths to get there would be drastically different. I feel the writing has dropped off a cliff, and things have become fanservicey, convenient and predictable in a way that the show never was in the earlier seasons.

I'm rewatching it now and I agree that the characters are Lost's strongest aspect, especially in its last two seasons (where they are the only strong aspect IMO). But in the end, the dumb mystery stuff seems to get in the way of the strong character moments as opposed to adding to them and the show is much weaker because of it.

The Sopranos (Seasons 4-6) - a pretty classic example of a show resting on its laurels, and allowing the momentum of early seasons to carry it to a grinding conclusion. I'm not one of the people that whines about how later seasons were boring because they weren't full of mob hits and high body counts. But at the same time, the deeper dives into family drama were pretty tedious. I can only watch so many screaming matches between Tony and Carmella (or Tony and his numerous mistresses) before I'm just exhausted from watching the same thing over and over.

True Detective season 1 was bad writing being salvaged by two fantastic performances and top-notch directing

This.

Although I don't think the acting was that great either. McConaughey overacted so much, although I have to say he was amazing in the last scene of the season.

I've said it over and over again that the things people didn't like in Season 2 were already present in season 1.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
I remember Scrubs being hugely popular in high school. All my friends and I watched it, Comedy Central would marathon it like every Sunday.

Tried watching it a few years ago. Hot garbage.

Season 2 was just bad writing
In hindsight yeah I agree though I wouldn't call it bad and there were good actors in 2. Would that said the writing got worse and the chemistry and acting paled compared to woody and Matthew plus the loss of Cary didn't help
