Twitter says Super Mario Bros movie is mediocre, boring, uncreative - the Live action movie was better

I will take my kids, they will love it.

Illumination may not make plots adults like, but kids fucking love movies like minions. Literally that’s the point and they are good at that. This movie will do great In the box office.

I’m pretty sure the receptionist/HR manager cohort is bigger re minions.

Hahaha, critics! I'm not a Mario fan but I'm sure kids will like it. Heck my kids even liked the Ratchet movie.

LMAO. Even if it's not good, which is extremely unlikely, it will still be way, way better than the live action film. This is just straight hyperbole.

From the studio that brought you humanity’s most annoying creation, The Minions. What did these people even expect?

It’s a kid/family movie first (and nothing wrong with that).
Exactly, these scolds expect them to push boundaries and agenda in a kids movie.... I bet they were wishing princess peach rescues Mario to subvert the patriarchy or some bs. Too much "boundary" pushing and you get shit like last jedi where it is no longer about what it should be.

I am glad that kids/families have a new normal Mario movie to see. Thats all that matters, if the kids like it. Hell the original 80s mario live action movie and tv cartoon with zelda wasn't revolutionary, but as a 10-12 year old at the time I thought they were great.

We all knew to was going to be bad, when they hired Chris Pratt 😂. And what happened to delaying stuff and until they are good Nintendo.

A ton of kids films have a meaningful plot. Short Circuit. Flight of the Navigator. Jurassic Park. Toy Story.
jurrasic park was in no-way for kids.

but I see you quoted the old classics you are a person of cuture,

I hope they remake flight of the navigator, that soundtrack is awesome.

Can’t say I expected an amazing plot from a movie based on a franchise that uses a paper thin plot in every single game.

I’ll be watching it when it arrives on a streaming service down the line. Happy to hear it has loads of fan service and that the visuals look amazing all the way through.

I'm not interested due to the voices alone. Too distracting. I didn't expect Charles Martinet to be the lead but I also didn't expect the characters to sound nothing like their videogame counterparts.

The live action Mario was a fucking dumpster fire, absolute garbage that even Hoskins couldn’t save. I remember back in the day going to see it in the cinema and leaving at the end feeling I had been robbed from spending cash to watch that. No way I’m gonna believe that the new one is worse than that shitfest Twitter edgelords are hardly gonna convince me otherwise.

I am sorry, but who expected an oscar worthy story from a mario movie?

I dont trust critics one bit. They praised vapid marvel movies for over a decade and now have grown a backbone?

Its a kids movie. Should be judged as such. i get that we have 40 year old mario fans, but this movie was not going to have mario and peach go through a mid life crisis and get divorced.

It's a bit sad because the animation and storytelling in the recent Luigi's Mansion was excellent. I'd take a full-length film from the teams that animated those games, keeping the slower pace and more subtle comedy from Luigi's nervous character.

That would be better than another ADHD-fest like I'm sure this feature film will be.

Not really a movie to get me to go to the movies but I do plan on watching this when it gears a non movie release. Primarily because being surrounded by kids at the theater is absolutely suffering. Might be worth it if I had my own kids to take but nah

This movie wasn't made to win awards. It's made to entertain kids and make lots of money, and that it will. I don't understand why critics feel like every movie must be high art.

Of course. The Mario and Luigi games were also great storywise (for those who say Mario can't have a good story). I would love a Mario movie along those lines. I've no idea why this mediocre "child" movie (that a lot of people here are excited to watch) gets so ardently defended here.

I don't think anyone is defending it, just that no one was expecting it to be amazing story wise. My expectations is fun.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
That's impressive, didn't knew it was possible to be worse then the 90's one 😂

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Who the fuck would listen to the Twitter mob though? The movie might suck, but form your own opinions people.

A lot of people seem to be trying to deflect criticism. "Mario has no story" "it's for kids!" "were you expecting Citizen Kane?" etc My issues with the movie go far beyond story/plot. A simple story is fine, most movies don't really have complex plots, but they get by with good writing and direction. This one simply looks and sounds obnoxious in every way, just like everything Illumination has made. The cheap repetitive "humor", bizarre choice of voice actors, overbearing character animation/acting.. it's so jarring and unappealing, and way overdone at this point. Wish people demanded better.

I don't think anyone was expecting citizen cane here.

But however... never listen to, believe or fall for twitter/media reviewers. You may as well show Me a review from a clove of garlic considering they will both have the same level of mental thought put into it

It can't be stressed enough that creepy 25-30 year old man child basement dweller who is mad or emotionally affected by this or any pop culture movie/TV show. This isn't for you and not everything Revolves around you. Unless the movie has a genuine huge fault like bad cgi or depiction of Mario as a rapist or something insane like that. Then just watch the movie, enjoy it or don't and move on with your life.

Dye your hair green like your peers. That always cheers you up

Reverse groomer.
When adults complain a movie for kids is for kids. I’m sure my kids will have a blast.
a kids movie that only kids like is a bad kids movie.

you can rewatch disney and Ghibli movies like Lion King and Mononoke years later and understand the subleties and messages that make them a masterpiece, that made such an impact on you when you watched them as a child

this is junk food

Don't know what the people expected. It's a a movie based of na game which has nearly an unexisting story. On top this is a kids movie.

Do the people really expected a good story as adults??

What if.....no I better not.

Well...ok. Let me ask this. What if, and this is just a hypothetically scenario. But what if the critics are right and the movie sucks?
