One of the mods, I don't know for what reason changed the thread title. The original thread title was about Movie critics rating the movie bad, which I then posted their tweets. It's not just regular tweeters, these are Rotten Tomato critics.

There looks to be a major divide between the opinion of the critics and general audience that had an earlier screening of the movie and gave it positive reviews.

I don't really care if it's good or not, the kiddo is hyped to have an event to eat some junk food with just dad, and our special Mario shirts we got to wear together.

If it puts a smile on my kid's face, I don't care. I mean if it happened to be the Citizen Kane of kids movies at the same time, great, but I can tell from the trailers what I'm getting in to here.

I'm repeating myself in this thread, but I think for most reviewers fun is not allowed anymore. A movie can't just be. And yes, if Nintendo wanted this could have had a more in depth plot. But for Nintendo they just wanna entertain and prob aimed for a fun romp across the Mario universe. All their games are lacking in plot, and this movie looks to be an equivalent to their games. Fun and entertaining with no emotional connection.

I couldnt disagree with you more. Illumination are the best animation company worldwide (alongside dreamworks). Pixar fell off a decade ago.

Pixar movies over the past decade (most of them box office flops):-

Lightyear
Turning Red
Soul
Luca

They fell off a cliff and stopped making fun interesting family movies in favor of pushing agendas.

Source: I have a 5 year old kid and have watched every single animated movie released over the last 5 years.

You missed out a load of movies. Toy Story 4, Incresibles 2, Coco, Inside Out. They were all fantastic. Soul was good too.
