Ubisoft launches live blog to address AC Unity issues, next update detailed

This is how it should work in this case. They acknowledge issues with the game and work to fix it. So as much as people would like to shit on Ubisoft some more, this announcement is only a good thing.

indeed. damned if you do, damned if you dont. no one is excusing the launch, but if they fix it (and thats a big if), how is that wrong?

I'm glad someone told them about all these problems! I mean how could they have known before releasing the game right?

I'm glad they're gonna be trying to fix some of the issues. I bought the AC unity bundle xbox one but probably am gonna play through AC IV and rouge by then this game should be much better.

They had plenty of time for this shit. The game had 10 studios (!) working on it and was what 4 years in development? on top of that they straight up lied and said they would delay an Asscreed game ‘If It’s Not Good Enough’. Yeah you white knights keep supporting them, i'm done.

they have to thats why.

ok

nobody is white knighting anything, nobody is excusing the clusterfuck of a release. But there are people out there that bought the game, there are people out there that like the series (for the record, I didnt, Im way behind on the series to ever buy the new ones full price), so again, I fail to see how announcing they are trying to fix it is a bad thing. It might be "too little too late" if you havent bought it, sure, but not if you did buy it and want to play it?

that has been established. how is trying to fix it now a bad thing?
Because I dont like said thing being patched and it should rot!!

okay yeah im really confused about the bitterness here. Its one thing to say im still not buying it. But all the "oh its just /wonderful/ theyre fixing these glitches they just found!" and such isnt really helping a discussion. We all know they knew in advance.

they have to thats why.
Well, they dont have to...but yeah, its been established they knew and were obnoxious for releasing it as it.

Cool, I'll keep playing games I like because A)I don't play everything on day one and B)they make games I enjoy a lot.

Damage control.

They didn't do anything of this sort with the boatload of issues AC3 had, but are only talking about it due to how popular these issues are.

Sometime soon Ubisoft will release an update with great fanfare, saying it fixes almost every glitch imaginable, improves frame rate performance, etc, etc. Bet on it.

Then we'll need to see a true before-and-after from Digital Foundry or others to see how much better the game performs following the update. I anxiously await those independent results.

I really dislike this practice. They've launched a page to tell us when updates will come to fix problems they knew about all along but ignored. Too little too late.
For real. It's not like they've just "been told" about these issues by us. QA found them. The devs deferred them. They've known about these issues for months, guaranteed.

Even EA wrote a letter.
Yes, but look were EA is now...DA is one of the best games on the market currently. they analyzed their mistakes and found what we the player wanted. They came out of the gate and said Skyrim was a huge influence on how their game played and worked. EA is a much better company than it was from a few years ago. That's not to say ME3, DS 3, or BF4 didn't happen but it looks like EA is learning that if you make a good game, market it a little and let word of mouth do the rest you can save on cost and garner praise from us gamers. EA is learning, this might be the start of Ubisoft learning too.

I'm a white knight for saying it's a good thing they are working to fix a game they launched with issues? Keep going around shitting on Unity, that's cool and you have many reasons to do so. Don't go into a thread about an update that will try to fix those issues you are upset about and spin it as a negative.

Fixing what needs to be fixed is not and will never be a negative. People own this game and would appreciate issues to be fixed.

Apprarently actively noting issues your consumers are having and plans to fix them isn't even a good move in people's eyes..

These threads have literally devolved into people spouting 'Fuck you, Ubisoft' or something to that effect.

Is it just as janky on the PC?

I know what the performance looks like so I'm asking about the game itself here when I say that.

Roflmao. AC:U sounds like the Daggerfall for a whole new generation.

aye its fucking awful aparently

This whole mentality of fixing/patching after release is going to whole other level. It's like they don't even QA any more or don't give a crap that bugs are there but rush to release the game. I doubt the QA team didn't see any if these atrocious bugs. Really getting worse and worse with new games.

For those of us who werent around for daggerfall (thats TES 2, right?) was that game unplayable due to bugs or something?

Daggerfall is probably the buggiest game I have ever played. It wasn't just broken upon release, even when they tried to patch it and fix it, sometimes it got worse instead of better. Typical bugs would involve the player getting stuck in stuff and falling through the floor, because their engine had serious collision issues. In many dungeons, including main quest dungeons, it would actually be possible to find spots to intentionally fall through the floor into the "void", where you can continue to float around outside of the map, and if you could find the right cracks in the game world, you could basically skip the entire dungeon to activate certain things you need to progress. Getting back into the map after falling out can be a challenge though. :P

Later on when future patches made saves incompatible, they released a save converter util which would take old saves and make them compatible with the new versions of the game. As expected of the geniuses at Bethesda, lots of saves simply got broken, and the converter had to be patched several times too.

To their credit they didn't bunker down and just run away from the problems, but oh boy it was a huge mess of a game.

They only put up that blog to buy time so consumers will buy the game during the holidays. After the holidays, back to giving the middle finger to everyone who bought it.

I got this game with the Target buy 2 get 1 free deal and the most glaring issue I've seen so far is the insane amount of clipping in cut scenes by character models. It's so distracting and now that I saw it a couple times I see it in every single scene.

They got greedy, and had to squeeze their incomplete game into the holiday season to maximize sales. The writing was on the wall long before this guys, there's nobody to blame but yourself if you bought this piece of shit.

So you think it's ok that people have to wait now weeks if not months until they can FINALLY play this game?

Game breaking bugs/glitches like those shouldn't even be in a FINAL BUILD to begin with and that's why people are mad.

I never said it was ok? What posts are you reading? I'm saying it's a good thing they are actively saying they are going to try and work on the issues. Should it have been fixed in the final build and shipped without these issues? Of course, but it didn't. So there's two ways this would go down since that's the reality, A) ignore the game and say fuck it or B ) do something about it because people purchased the game and deserve the issue to be worked on. Option B is NOT the negative one. Being mad at option B is absurd.
