Ubisoft launches live blog to address AC Unity issues, next update detailed

And it's FAR from running at 30 FPS on ps4.

And if you add the pop in of models and textures, you have one of the worst game ever made, technically.

I'm not kidding, just standing around the crowd and you can see them shake and reload models and textures, every fucking second. They have LOW MED and HIGH poly, problem being that they shake when they reload, and they do that in the worst possible manner, right in front of you or in plain sight. This should NEVER happen. So ok if it's only a little it's not too noticeable. Now applicate that horror to their "thousands of npcs" and all you see is a glitch, permanently. And the reload also glitches their animations most of the time.

All that while not able to run at stable 30 (besides classic drops and actual freeze), at 900p. So you sure as hell "defended them".

I think it was more correcting the person about the resolution than defending anything you just said. In fact, I'm pretty certain that's all it was. Maybe take a moment next time before getting worked up about.

Yes the game is a disaster, but someone making a simple comment about resolution isn't defending the game nor deserves some angry rant directed at them.

Apprarently actively noting issues your consumers are having and plans to fix them isn't even a good move in people's eyes..

These threads have literally devolved into people spouting 'Fuck you, Ubisoft' or something to that effect.
Its recognized as the damage limitation it is. They deserve no props for patching the game into a state it should have been in at launch. Thats not going "above and beyond", it's meeting the minimum threshold for what consumers expect in a game.
They want applause? Plaudits? How about dont release your game in beta state.

I hope the posters that were defending this train wreck feel ashamed of themselves now that Ubi themselves have come out and acknowledged the litany of issues. I saw posts in the PC performance thread that were shocking in their gushing praise of the game and apologetics for it.

I haven't looked too much at the PC performance yet, but isn't that part kind of decent? There were quite a few people who overreacted to how the PC version performed.

So PS4 will have better frame rate than XBONE in crowded areas then, like the rest of the game.... right? :/

Borderline too little too late. We'll see.

If you have a powerful PC you're definitely getting the best out of this game. It looks pretty damn epic. And if you were lucky enough to avoid any of the serious bugs and glitches playing on a high-end PC, then I can fully see why you would be praising the game.

Awesome they are patching it to the point it should have been at launch. Maybe I'll buy it down the line...used. I refuse to give them money with how they handled the launch of this game.

I read one guy who argued that the game performing the way it does on PC (poorly) was evidence that the devs had an uncompromising view towards graphic fidelity and ought to be praised. (yay for performance crippling DoF?)
I have plenty of games with DoF and advanced rendering techniques that dont run at 20 fps in an enclosed room, so youll excuse me for not drinking that cup of kool aid.

Good news. The game is a ton of fun already but if they can fix up all the technical issues then it would actually be a GOTY contender for sure. Hopefully they can get a patch out before I finish playing it...

Well put. Prioritizing an ultimately superfluous bullet point over reasonable performance and stability is, as you said, baffling. I can only imagine there must have been at least one high level person insisting on hitting that 5,000 number, but we'll never know.

Yeah, especially if the prime promotional target is that holy grail of gaming pr-nirvana : the claim of submerging the player into a BELIEVABLE and immersive world. In that case I think, they would have achieved a better total result, focusing intensely on these two main priorities.

1. Less is more
Reducing the staggering scale of npc's (and thereby also reducing the staggering amount of anti-immersive copypasta clones present in a given scene) would have freed up vital computational resources, which then could have been allocated into the creation of extra groups of npc types, each with their own unique animations. The novelty of continuously seeing more of something new and small, takes longer to wear off than just seeing more and more of the same of something huge.

2. POLISH
Polish is really everything, when it comes building and inhabiting immersive open worlds.
Glitches are impossible to avoid, but developers have to understand that the players ability to forget and forgive decreases at an exponential rate. The more often the lack of polish violently shatters the illusion of "being there", the less willing the player becomes to invest their imagination ( and subsequently also their time) in the fantasy the game is attempting to make you believe in, and therefore also care about.

I was genuinely interested in Unity; I had a nVidia code from my new GPU that I had been holding onto for a week to see how the game panned out.

Performance / bug issues may get fixed at some point but I just didn't think the game was worth hanging onto the code for; I expect the game will be half price by the time things are fixed.

Are you sure you're playing Unity? It sounds to me like you're playing Black Flag, that's the fun one.

I've smelled farts better than Ubisoft lately. Their practices are pure shit this year.

Why are you in here being a dick?

Game released as a GOTY contender anyway, these fixes will just make an already insanely fun game, polished as it should have been.

Good to hear

(I'm on Bone version)

I'm afraid that there are far too many new games coming out for me to care much for Unity at this point.

Between Inquisition, FC4, GTA5 and Witcher 3, I will have more games than I can handle to be bothered with a janky band-aided together mess that, from everything I'm reading, just isn't that great of a game if you put aside the frame rate issues and other glitches.

I somehow doubt they will be able to fix the frame rate without gimping the game, or at least without reducing the number of NPCs.

On the first ACU page in the Ubisoft forums there were 4 individuals complaining that they couldnt buy Helix Points, one later commented that he managed to buy 1,400 credits :)
It's like last week's South Park episode coming to life. Amazing.

Optimizations come at the end of development. The problem that Unity has is that development hasn't technically ended, so they're still optimizing their game while selling it to consumers. Knowing how publishers work, they're probably trying to get it fixed before the december holidays, so that when little johnny gets his latest AC game it runs decently enough.

The game is so so broken, I doubt it can be fixed with updates. The whole ludacris idea of having 10k random, npcs that do nothing at all, roaming around the world, is ridiculous.

Ubisoft: Please fix the broken Companion app too, please. After I got the premium version it resynced to my Uplay account, resetting everything (which is alright) but then it grayed out the ability to hire assassins. So now it's stuck in training mode and I can't progress. The app actually grew on me and I started to enjoy it before that point :(. It's neat.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions and spend their money how they see fit but goddamn this upsets me more than anything.

An NPC slider would be the best thing ever. Since Sony lied to me in chat about getting a refund, it appears I am stuck with the game after all. I played a bit last night unlocking towers and holy hell, with each unlock it got worse and worse. Fucking slide show running through the streets. If I could turn off some NPCs and get a rock solid 30fps I would. Hell, if I could turn off ALL NPCs int he game except story related ones and merchants and get 60fps I would. Paris being a ghost town would allow me to get around a lot faster lol

Who is buying helix credits... Omg stop please

I've been playing Rogue waiting for a patch, hopefully it's soon and actually fixes something. Rogue is pretty good, haven't had many issues, although once while jumping into a stream my guy kind of got stuck in the netherworld between the stream and whatever lies beyond and couldn't get out. He drowned.

Sure, thanks UBI.

I'll buy this used on PS4 once you get the game finished.

EA seems to have learned, UBI is yet to learn.

The fact that ubisoft beta tested PS4 version one week before release, compared to months before with X1 shows you the state of development and project management associated with this game.

Definitely rushed.

I'll keep my copy of the game as I don't do trade ins hopefully they do fix the vast majority of this games problems but they should have just delayed the game until it was ready.

Hope this isn't disrespectful to say, but I'm glad this whole fiasco with AC:U happened. Ubi has been on a trend lately that I simply did not appreciate. Hopefully this shows them that their current practices aren't cutting it.

I'm going to be patient on it. Luckily Dragon Age will be out next week so I was going to put it on the back burner anyway. My only real gripe with the game so far is the framerate. I found the game excellent besides that.

And I wasn't really surprised because prior to release I had not personally seen a gameplay video where the framerate was not bad anyway.

The game will sell millions and millions of dollars just like watch dogs did and to this day that game hasn't been fixed, this is just something to calm the waters, after a few weeks an update will br posted and that's that, it's crazy how much effort these companies put in building franchises and once they make it everything starts to get worse and worse with each installment of the franchise, i have finished every AC game but this is a pass from me, sadly they have force my hand

Managements fault to begin with, no?

This. No one in their right mind can blame the rank and file guys at Ubisoft. Those poor souls probably worked 14 hour days to meet an unrealistic deadline set by the publisher and upper Ubisoft management. Now, they have to see their work be destroyed on internet forums and know that the project they worked 4 years on is widely hated by the gaming community. Management better not come out now and act all shocked and blame the little guy. This is a management sin, as well as a publisher sin. The upper echelon at both institutions made the call to throw this broken game out for public consumption and the blame for it should lay squarely on their shoulders.
