LMAO how did I miss this (too many references in here if you don't watch MMA or know about Ludwig and his peanut butter hustle)

3rd round was not close. At all.

The fight is scored round by round. It doesn't matter if Cruz faded. So long as he isn't stopped.. an early lead in the cards means a win. This is how it works and how it's always worked.

And calling rounds 4 and 5 "Championship Rounds" is such a shitty move to try to make them seem more important. Let the UFC sell those wolf tickets on their own, they don't need your help.

Any fighter, in any championship fight takes the majority of the rounds early on? Merely has to survive the remaining rounds without losing a point. It is what it is.

Doesn't mean it can't be changed though. This might be OK in boxing where you're fighting 10 or 12 round fights. Win the first 7 rounds straight and decisively and I can agree that you can coast the rest of the fight. In a 3 round fight, that's utter bullshit (in 5 rounds too though).

It's like in a football game losing the first 3 quarters by 1 field goal each and saying the other team is doomed. It's really not that much difference and they can make it up with just a couple of touchdowns. Scoring fights per rounds is insane in MMA.

Like you have fights when 1 guy is outstriking the other and totally dominating the whole 5 minutes, but if there's no knockdown you'll get a 10-9 round. Then second round you have the same thing the first 2 minutes then he gets taken down and the other guy is just holding top position, but not really doing any damage. Now suddenly the fight is tied and it's complete bullshit. If the other guy can press the striker against the cage in the third round he'll get the win doing absolutely no damage.

I think MMA needs to start looking at the fights as a whole. Like looking at the scorecards Cruz won, but if we look at the fight as a whole, it gets a lot harder to say he did enough to take the belt. He was gassed at the end and couldn't even move anymore on account of his leg, while TJ seemed completely unfazed and was doing more damage. Also takedowns that lead to nothing should be scored about the same as good clean punch IMO, nothing more.
