I Was very happy that my new CPU and Motherboard arrived (x870E Asus ans 9 9800X3D) but my PC wouldnt turn on no matter what. Swapped to my old motherboard and CPU and PC came back alive.

I wasnt expecting this to happen but fuck me i guess, the rumors about bricked AM5 motherboards and CPUs are real.

So what you guys recommended: Nintendo Switch 2 or PS5 Pro? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

CPU dies on you once: Shame on you
CPU dies on you twice: Are you trying to fit them into the NVMe slot or something? lol

Seriously though, just return it and buy a new one.

Not voting in the poll till u put on proper 3rd option- keep playing on pc/rma the cpu.
U dont bang 400lbs beached whale and give her commited relationship when u strike out trying to date a baddie, u keep at it with other baddies simply- not saying brotha cant go for some strange on slow tuesday, but thats pump and dump cathegory only :D

My wife's 9800 x3D works perfectly. I imagine your experience is probably representative of less than 1% of purchasers of the CPU, just tell whoever you bought it from it doesn't work, return it, get a new one sent Express, (they'll usually do this for free after they've inconvenienced you like this), and try again. Going back to consoles because of this is like saying you're gonna do push ups instead of bench press for the rest of your life simply because you slightly jammed your wrist up after one bench press session.

I had a DOA monitor a couple of weeks ago but instead of stabbing myself in the eyes with a fork and then resorting to nothing but audiobooks for entertainment I just had a replacement cross-shipped, and I was up and running 2 days later.

If you find yourself stabbing yourself in the eyes, you're not using the cork correctly!

RMA the 9800x3d. IIRC Zen 5 has had issues with defective chips. Personally I had a brand new 7700x not work and had to RMA it.

Can't you just send it back and get a working one?

Make sure you've updated the bios on the motherboard btw. I thought I had a doa cpu because the old bios had no clue what it was and showed error lights, updated the bios through usb and bam it worked.

What do you mean doesn't turn on?

Do the fans spin, Mobo light up at all?

Does the mobo have an error code led?

did you check the compatibility out of the box? not sure off the top of my head of the release schedule of the motherboard compared to the cpu, but you may need to update the bios to get the mb to recognize the cpu.

Not even Q Flash worked

This is why i always buy shit in person. I can go and get it immediately replaced. No need to wait for a RMA or ship it back to newegg or amazon.

You can get bad parts - but lets face it, none of us are experts at building a PC and its usually going to be something we did wrong.

Just get one of these.

But seriously it is hard to brick computer parts these days. did you check the motherboard cpu pin array for bent pins?

Dumbest post ever. This issue could be as simple as making sure you had the jumpers connected correctly. How did you narrow down CPU?

I thought I had a dead motherboard when installing a new one once. Turned out after an hour of sweating beads that I'd forgotten to connect it to the power button.

How do you know it's the CPU and not the Mobo?.

You should be able to tell if the motherboard is working by looking for led lights or beeps when turning on. Also if the fan spins if plugged in sys_fan1

Sadly it's more likely the mobu, but i had to rma both to be sure

Where are you based, US?. I'm not sure on your rights but in the UK if something is DOA you get 30 days to swap it for brand new. Do you have to RMA only? If that's the case that sucks.

Highly unlikely a dud CPU though.

Either way I wouldn't give that PC up for a console 🤣 get a PS5 Pro and have both!!

99.9999999% sure it was the mobo that was bad
My first X870E mobo was dead too so I feel your pain.
