A game inside posted on lse yesterday!

Might be bull but something interesting is bound to happen today. It's a rollercoaster ride!

You honestly believe someone with insider knowledge on game's debt restructuring or large share trades would post on london south east? Jesus.

I was reading that before, it wouldve been nice if he gave examples of bullying. Maybe he's referring to the Steam=enabled PC games that GAME wouldnt stock..

I'm thinking about every single exclusive special edition and wondering.

Half an hour left for the megaton!

The top selling game at game this week was modern warfare, probably by a country mile!

So where's the megaton?

Game has a future, it's too big to fail, it might not have goodwill with the ultra hardcore but millions of gamers and parents shop there and are happy with their trade in prices etc otherwise it wouldn't be such a winner for them.

I think you are mistaking a big financial institution with a specialist retailer store in the industry nobody seriously gives a shit about.

So... did any 'megaton' news happen at 9?
The only information Brera had was this, from a user called DTG-GMG on the London South East forum:

Don't want to fill all with false hope, but I believe an announcement is on its way tomorrow morning :) slightly overdue. I dont think ea will cave in for march but we will sort it out with them. On paper it looks like a massive gamble definitely worth investing in GMG.

Who, upon being asked for any further information, then followed it up with:

No sorry, just hope it's good news

So yeah, don't know where he got a megaton from, wishful thinking taking to the absolute extreme most likely.

You mean attention seeking trolling taken to the absolute extreme, right?
He definitely isn't trolling, which is the worrying thing in all of this.

I've been into tons of Gamestations now, and NONE of them have any SSX on the 360. Some have a couple on PS3, but that's it. They obviously didn't buy a large number of them, if any at all, so they obviously can't afford to buy games they theoretically have access to. The shelves are kinda bare at most locations, the staff down as hell.

This company is not long for the world.

I've based all my share dealings on that place! I've got shares in Lloyds and Thomas Cook.

GMG was my best performing share until last month but Lloyds and TC have picked up. TC has doubled since I bought it and is seriously undervalued. Lloyds, likewise!

I have faith, but I'm willing to risk £500 if it means it turns into £25'000 in 3 years when shares hit £3 again!

New generation has started already and Game is at the forefront of Vita sales and if Nintendo and MS want to be in for a chance, they need Game. MCV even agrees!

WAT your investing in a dying company - WHY. No wonder they haven't collapsed yet idiots must be funneling money into them thinking they can make a killing.

I saw a sign in the countryside that said 'Shite for sale' and I thought who'd want that let alone buy it. But there are people out there that will literally buy anything.

Oh the shelves are empty. I bought Arkham City on Monday to get rid of my vouchers/points and it was a sad sight. The 360 new games section was made up of the top 20 and 2 small shelves of new games, that were actually very bare.
The rest of the 360 section was all preowned.
No wonder publishers want nothing to do with them.

At least you could put that shite on the roses in your garden. You can do fuck all with Game shares, looool.

And all overpriced right? They had more games in the past but with the same high price.
Zero competitiveness.

This thread is a miraculous gem and should be preserved forever. Shine on, Brera, you crazy diamond.

GAME is still completely done, however. I'm actually not quite sure what the over/under is on them surviving past April (I don't think they'll fold entirely in just this month), but it can't be good.

Can any lovely employees of the doomed behemoth confirm the bizarre stock situation?

Them not having any stock of the very few new games they're supposed to have, as well as reports of bare shelves(not including empty cases here, unlike MCV), and a worryingly "out of stock" website has to be raising serious alarm bells down in the trenches.
Wow, you weren't kidding. The website says it has 6000+ games, but if you select filters, then it narrows significantly. For example, new (non-preowned) Xbox 360 games that are out now and in stock, lists a huge range of 18 games. 18...

Other amounts of new, in stock games:

PlayStation 3 (28)
Nintendo Wii (25)
Nintendo 3DS (13)
Nintendo DS (34)
PC Games (193)
PC Downloads (31)
PSP (19)
Xbox LIVE (4)
Clearance (19)

Apart from PC games, they're stocking hardly anything.

Again, I know nothing about retail, but perhaps they've pushed all warehouse stock out to the stores so the website has nothing while they keep the shelves in store stocked up as far as possible? Public perception on the high street is presumably more important than what they have online.

It would make more sense to move any and all stock from 'failing' stores. But whats weirder is they still haven't sold off GAME Australia in terms of store contracts, products, etc. to any other retailer.

Well the GAME on Princes Street in Edinburgh is about as well stocked as Mother Hubbard's cupboard. A plethora of pre-owned titles, with I'd say about 1/3 of the entire store at the front dedicated to pre-ordering about 5 different titles... The amount of new stock they have for the PS3/360 is minimal, whilst the Wii is virtually all pre-owned stock with shit loads of shovel ware and Zelda.

Went into GAME and Gamestation the other day, not even getting streetpass hits from the workers anymore, it's getting that bad!

Amazon. The solution to every problem

I got my Vita from Amazon - ordered at 6pm and it was at my door for 9am the next morning. £40 cheaper than the same deal at Game

GAME needs a KONY 2012 style campaign. Pretend to go after the 'evil publishers' who've been exploiting children for years.

They'd still spend it all on management.

They need to have a gravely voiced american shouting POWER TO THE PLAYER and become Gamestop it's whats gonna happen anyway.

Hehe but aren't HMV in trouble as well, fuck where will we buy our PC4s and XBOX CANYENEROS.

I wouldn't be surprised if Games probable collapse would give a decent increase to HMVs sales. They have a very decent selection of gaming stuff, especially compared to Game at the moment.

It'll be interesting seeing how bare the shelves are in the Liverpool Game and Gamestation stores tomorrow. Maybe I'll be able to grab a few cheap strategy guides that I keep hearing about. Use up the £0.70 in reward points I have!

In Swansea, the game section in HMV is bigger than all of GAME. They have a ridiculously small store there, and it's full of utter shite.

You can only use it in £2.50 increments :p

Well just been in to the GAME store in Solihull and the shelves aren't as bare as some reports make out but their preorder section consisted of absolutely nothing.. which was slightly surprising!

Charts looked stocked to an OK level however most of it was preowned but they had just stickered up all their preowned down to sale prices so Brutal Legend and Darksiders for £1.98 each.. Bonus!

HMV just came to an agreement with their suppliers and creditors for a debt relief and a long term business plan change. HMV are still in deep shit, but not as deep as Game. The difference being that passing trade, high volume and low yield works for movies and music better than it works for games which are much more expensive.

HMV make a lot of money from their £5 DVDs and £10 Blu-ray sales and their live events arm is still profitable. Even so, HMV still need to shrink their footprint and limit their presence to busy high streets and shopping centres and have just one location in each town. There is no need for HMV to have two Oxford Street branches for example. No one else competes with them in the DVD/Blu-ray sales arena now that Woolies are gone and they should get rid of the branch on the Topshop side of Oxford street and keep the Marble Arch one going because of its historical importance to the company. The other key bit of influence that HMV has is with the independent record labels, they still depend on HMV's continued existence to survive and get their wares onto the market. Game have no such relationship with smaller publishers and indie developers, again a strategy they have actively denied in favour of bigger, more front-loaded releases from Activision and EA. It has come back to bite them in the arse.

HMV will still be around in some shape or form a few years from now, Game, otoh, will not. I feel that gaming, and the high street will be better for it as new competitors come in and try and forge themselves a path in a £1bn consumer market. There will be so much opportunity for indie developers and smaller publishers to strike deals with independent game shops than dealing with one all-powerful games retailer. I feel bad for the employees and I'm sure the better ones will start looking at taking over their retail locations if they are marginally profitable and rebuilding their customer base with the local consumers and rebuilding relationships with publishers and devs.

The Game in Enfield is actually pretty decent and I definitely feel bad for those guys who work there when they lose their jobs, but if one was to come to me with a business plan I would probably give them a hearing and some start-up funds for an indie shop with closer links to indie developers.

That's an interesting point.

What will happen to all those pre-owned games if GAME need to sell up? They won't be able to sell them back to suppliers.

Probably a pre-owned firesale in-store. Everything must go!

I know I'd be on the prowl for a few PS2 classics.

Man is this guy the shit or is this guy the shit.

Hope HMV survive I love their stores, they have everything, I used to buy all my guitar tab books from them, T-shirts, 3 for 2, great sales, stupid gadgets. Hope they don't go the way of Zavvi and turn into an online entity, their stores are part of the charm.

The business plan we have recently proposed actually goes away from games and focuses on the Audio and Visual side of our business with games as a smaller but much more focused prescense which I think is the right way to go. We seem to have had more success with suppliers such as EA and Capcom as they are still supplying us on reasonable terms and we are getting Limited Edition stock in reasonable quantities to fulfill all Mass Effect 3 preorders we have taken which should be a great title for us over this weekend.

Just to point out as well we have already reduced our number of stores quite significantly over the past 6 months including the sale of the lease of the oxford street store near topshop to Forever 21 which was a liability of around £10m for just that one site. There are a number of stores aswell where we have 2 to 3 in a small area which closing one wouldn't prove to be of much benefit as the trade does not always move across to the other local stores as you would expect, however we don't quite have the Game and gamestation situation..
