The only people i have seen outside of the bottom left corner are lolbertarians; jibril is the closest to going across the horizontal line that i have seen.

Interesting. I personally believe that corporations should be held responsible and the government should monitor big money makers. And try to make a balance between state responsibilities and individual freedoms.

am I a fucking communist? This is what Obama's new world looks like

The political compass is soo boring cause everyone is on the left
I was hoping to spice things up for you but I'm on the left as well. Right on the border between Libertarian and Authoritarian. I thought being a fascist would have put me on the right.

Edit: I'm pretty much where Jibril is ^

Whoa Smokey! We've got a lot more in common than I had initially thought. It's hard to say, but I like you.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.41

Sorted that now. It's funny, I could have sworn I was more right-leaning before I joined GAF. Perhaps you're a good influence on me ;)

Maybe you're just a libertarian who gets mislabelled as conservative/right wing?

How widely accepted/used is this 2 dimensional method of describing political views? When the news refers to left and right, are they referring just to the economic views, or the (apprently) old fashioned mixed view (ie right wing = authoritarian)?

The use of the left-right-up-down scale is a very good way of marking down political positions, as the old left-right really doesn't work these days, but the poll from the political compass used to place you is very questionable indeed and i wouldn't put too much into it.

Enosh takes Jibril's mantle as "The Man"! These last few pages are a bit like the BC2 thread when someone found that site that made a sig with your stats, right enough.

Can I assume lots of these charts are from Brits? Given the current situation in America where lots of folks seem angry at a NHS type thing, it would be interesting to see how far right they are on the chart compared to us leftist Brits...

Took that simplistic test again. Just as comfortably left as always, but I notice I've become more libertarian by their scale. But, of course, I've always associated myself most with classical liberalism in terms of ideology - except for the oversimplified economics heritage it leaves, namely in the hands of the neo-liberal believers.

Rather normal gaf views I reckon, I view myself as a socially liberal person who believe in a pretty conservative state. Except for certain vital services that are cheaper overall when provided by the state.

i dunno, i mean labour is pretty fucking bad but i never want tories to be in power.

either way we lose, its kind of like alien vs predator, but interesting.

Oh I don't want the Conservatives to be in power with a majority, but I just think Labour have lost it. We need *something* new.

Best thing to hope for is a hung parliament with a Lib/Lab coalition with Labour having a new, fresher, younger leader. Con/Lib wouldn't be the end of the world either I don't think.

Probably worth pointing out that the SNP might get enough MP's to have a slight balance of power in the next parliament as well. Should be very interesting.

The Liberal Democrats would never work with the Conservatives. It would be an unparalleled moment in jump-the-shark history.

A Labour/LD coalition worked out alright for Scotland but I'm not sure if it could be replicated over the entire UK. Either way, Gordon Brown will not be able to serve a full term in office if Labour somehow manage to win. He'll either die in office or will be forced to step down.

If the Conservatives win the General Election it'll be the PR victory that Alex Salmond dreams of. At the very least it'll start a push for greater powers to the Scottish Parliament with the hope that the antagonism that follows sparks a greater interest in independence.

With Clegg as leader? It wouldn't surprise me to see him do anything to get some power.

I can see that hardly anyone is authoritarian which is good. I think what pushes me towards the right side of the spectrum is that I favour minimal state intervention and I don't believe that cradle to grave social security is a 'human right'.
