Uncharted 4 delayed two weeks to May 10

what? no. good way to kill pacing and enthusiasm.

*Tenzin slips and holds on for his life at the edge of a cliff*
*Nate gives him a hand*
*Tenzin will remember that*

Episodic doesn't mean TTG/LiS. Look at Hitman. The series is practically perfect for an episodic game. Just give us a few chapters per episode.

Ever thought that there could have been a large influx of late pre-orders, as in, later than when they decided on an amount of discs to print?
a lot of publishers of hotly anticipated video games have likely had this concern, though. this is the first time i've heard of a game being delayed because of it.

Disappointing, but I guess ND want Nate's send of to be perfect, and I can't complain about.
I'll be super, mega pissed if it releases buggy though
.

It's two weeks, doesn't really matter to me, but the marketing for this has been a surprising mess for a studio with such acclaim. Not counting the Laura Bailey controversy, we had constantly shifting release dates, stolen artwork from AC and news about story rewrites.

I'm sure it won't affect anything in the end, game's going to be awesome, but I'd expect ND to handle this better.

Didn't TLoU have shortages the first few weeks when it launched? Maybe they want to avoid the same situation.

huge amount of shortages, in canada alone it was sold out and had to wait least 2-3 weeks to get a copy. But that also may depend where you live, thats how it was in winnipeg

Ps
Please explain to me why you mentioned "console war BS" as my intention was completly different!
You singled out Sony when I was talking about both ND and Sony and then proceeded to mention the success of PS4 which had nothing to do with the subject.

So yeah, regardless of your intention, it definitely looked like you were going that way.

History has shown us that there have been many situations where demand outstripped supply and Sony's trying to avoid that. A few other posters have pointed out that TLOU had a supply problem and TLOU was a pretty highly anticipated game.

I have the big suspect it will be delayed to September how final release.

It says in the OP that they are wrapping up production and expected to go Gold later this month. Unless something catastrophic happens I really doubt there will be another delay.

no way summer block buster and will not be close to other exclusives/timed exclusives, No Man's sky, PSVR, Horizon, possibly TLG... no way its that late it would hurt the rest of their exclusives.

I hope they announce another delay on April 1st, then everyone think its a joke, but its not. It would be hilarious. Please ND, do it!

Yep. It's not been great. Here is a rough timeline of Uncharted 4 controversies.

PS4 Launch November 2013- Game is announced without any footage. Despite it being in development since 2011?
March - Amy Henning is let go under controversial circumstances.
April 2014 - Game Director Justin Richmond also leaves. Drake's brother original actor is also fired and Troy Baker is hired. Actor suggests that mo-cap was almost complete.
Story is rewritten at this point as confirmed by Neil just recently.
E3 2014 - Ridiculously good looking teaser is released. ND claims its realtime and the game will run at 60 fps.
PSX 2014 - Downgrade talks begins as the game looks nothing like the E3 trailer and ran at 30 fps.
March 2015 - Uncharted 4 gets delayed for the first time to Spring 2016 leaving Sony with no exclusives for the holiday season two years in a row.
August 2015 - Uncharted 4 gets a March 18 release Date.
PSX 2015 - White Actress is hired for a Black Character. Controversy erupts.
Beta is confirmed to be 900p 60 fps.
December 2015 - Just weeks after PSX, Uncharted is delayed to April 2016.
February 2016 - Naughty Dogs gets caught reusing concept art from Ubisoft games.
March 2016 - Uncharted 4 gets delayed for a Third time to May 2016.

Struggling to see the fourth delay? There has only been three.

Also Druckmann/Straley taking over production is definitely no controversy on my end, I welcome it :P

Who gives a shut about retail man. Fuck this. Give me my digital version and call it a day. The dirty retail peasants can wait.

Well at least I'll have a couple weeks with Dark Souls 3 before UC4 arrives. I want UC4 to be all ND wants it to be, so I am OK with waiting however long it takes for them to deliver the game they want to deliver.

Since when are delays ever considered controversies? These aren't FF Versus or TLG tier delays.

The bolded is also factually wrong. LBP3 was a holiday title.

Troy Baker joining Uncharted 4 is like the opposite of a controversy. :p

If the actor was replaced after mocapping was supposedly complete, it probably means what they had wasn't very good. Naughty Dog knew they could do better, and I want better. I want the best. Troy Baker is the best.

I know this is a tangent but i think we can all agree that LBP3 isn't the typical holiday exclusive. No one went to a store to pick up a PS4 for LBP3 especially given it was also a PS3 title

Fixed. And yes, Justin Richmond leaving Naughty Dog is definitely a plus in my book.

But that also means the game basically restarted development after they joined in 2014. Which means only 2 years were spent developing this game with the new leads, new story, characters and of course gameplay design. It explains the numerous delays as well.

Can we try to guess Polygon's score for the game? I will start:

Positives:

+ This mediocre series is finally over

Negatives:

- Quantum Break visuals are better
- Amy Henning was fired
- Racism
- No Chloe

Final Score: 4,5

They did for the Nathan Drake Collection PS4's. :p

LBP3 was also on PS3. I dont consider it a true PS4 exclusive.

Might as well start calling Tearaway, GoW3 and TLOU remasters big holiday titles.

The past 2 LBP's actually sold pretty well(million sellers). Seems like people simply lost interest.

Here's what you said "leaving Sony with no exclusives for the holiday season two years in a row". You failing to mention 'only' PS4 exclusives in on you. Also, LBP3 was a same day multiplat release while the other titles you've mentioned are remasters so that's false equivalence.

Nah they had two year of work developing the engine, art, animation systems etc. allowing Neil/Bruce to hit the ground running when they joined the project.rather than spending ages developing tech. For example, one ND dev said they have being working on vehicles since UC3 launched which clearly play a major role in the game. Plus, the mcguffin and location are the same as the original version, along with the whole brother aspect.

While things have changed within the game, I doubt that original two years of development were just thrown away. They were adapted and changed to fit Neil/Bruce's vision. (With some stuff being thrown away :p)

okay but again, why isn't that something they'd have thought of beforehand?

Why didn't they think of it 2 days later?

1 week earlier?

Why don't they do their jobs right grumble grumble....

In a perfect world et al. + first world problems + sprinkle on some armchair judgment.

So like Nintendo?
If that's what Nintendo are doing then it seems like a pretty sound business decision but I think the problem with Nintendo( at least when it comes to certain limited edition items) is that they produce far too little, even if it is limited. And then there's the Amiibo situation in its early days.

I have some serious concerns about the handling of WWS in regards to all the delays. The output has been excruciatingly slow from every major studio outside of sucker punch and you could argue GG. Dreams is a 2017 title from MM, ND continues to struggle to get UC out the gate, Sony bend keeps being teased and we haven't even seen a glimpse, SSM game was cancelled and they have yet to show anything and haven't made a retail release since ascension. Japan studios output has obviously been laughable with team ICO and of course PD taking FOREVER on whatever the hell is going on with GT7. evo struggled immensely to not only get drive club out, but to get it to work right and unfortunately were lost as a game developer to the whole debacle (despite this the final product is pretty great to be fair). There is more I'm sure I missed, but the output is disappointing given the sheer amount of studios and talent they have.
