Uncharted Series Not Over Yet, According to Naughty Dog

Why? If people enjoy them then what's the problem?
Even as someone who didn't care much for ND output so far, here's an easy answer: the problem would be that they'd be working on this rather than something new and more interesting.

the only uncharted game i really enjoyed was the lost legacy. i'm not holding my breath for anything special from naughty dog. they can make good looking games but that's about it. they use the same cookie cutter story/gameplay in all their games it's really boring now. when was the last time we had a game that wasn't TLOU or Uncharted?

Imagine people being matture enough to not ask for things to not be done just because they personally dont want it, even if there tons of other people that do want it.
"Hey Mark, do you want lasagna or soup for dinner?"
"You know mum, I prefer lasagna by a landslide, but some people MAY like soup the most so it feels wrong to shut it down".

Well, that was a given when they invested in turning it into a multimedia franchise. And with the movie doing that well it was guaranteed

Latest Uncharted 5 internal story pitch.

"Abby is fed up with Ellie's shenanigans so she time travels to the Uncharted timeline and being an orphan herself, she finds herself being envious of Drake's 13 yr old daughter and so Abby discretely kills his daughter with a golf club and proceeds by posing as the daughter, of course, old Drake isn't as sharp as he once was and doesn't question a thing despite the extra 300 lbs of muscle that his imposter daughter now packs. This is where you the player take control of Abby and spend 20hrs of shooting juice, pumping iron, writing feminist blogs, and calling in sick from your Starbucks barista job by identifying as a lamp. "

Yes, I remember an interview to the ND studio heads where they said to be interested to work on new IP in addition to continue working on Uncharted and TLOU. Jason Shredder also mentioned that Bend was helping ND on an Uncharted spinoff until Bend moved to work on their own IP.

I'd love to have a new (gold club free) Uncharted game with Nate as new character and with Sully as sidekick. The daughter could be there playable a part of the game, but I want Nate to be back as the main character. He's key for the Uncharted franchise and Sony has to keep at least one white male protagonist because they are getting rid of all of them.

The game could be a bit like The Lion King about the circle of life moving from a generation to the next one, teaching the kids, parenthoods, coming of age, etc (but please don't kill Nate or Sully): they could make a part with Nate and the daughter and flashbacks with untold old adventures of young Nate and Sully in some of their first big adventures together.

Please let Nathan rest. His ending was perfect imo.
Please stop, do something else, let another studio take over the franchise and do something different with it.
Nate's retired and I don't want to play as his dweeb kid
First the news of a The Last of Us Remake and now this. They need to move on and make some new IPs. It's a bit too soon to go back to Uncharted. The series had a perfect ending. Why go back at the risk of potentially ruining the series. If they are gonna go back to Uncharted, they should introduce a whole slew of new protagonists, leave Nate and his crew alone...
Legacy sounds like one last hurrah? Or maybe a final live service title.
ND really, really, needs to move on IMO. Don’t touch Uncharted or TloU again. Make new things.

I hope this isn’t true.

Even as someone who didn't care much for ND output so far, here's an easy answer: the problem would be that they'd be working on this rather than something new and more interesting.

Nonsense, it's like to ask Nintendo to stop making Mario games, or to ask MS to stop making Halo games.

Uncharted (specially now with the movie being very successful) and TLOU print money, so they will continue getting new games. ND said they are interested on continue working on both and also in new IP. ND, like all the other Sony gamedev studios has growing a lot to work in more games at the same time.

They have the Legacy of Thieves Collection PC port (by Iron Galaxy), the TLOU 2 Factions game and pretty likely a TLOU1+2 Director's Cut bundling the remake -originally headed by Sony San Diego VASG team- and next gen version of TLOU2 coming to PS5 (the remake was pitched by Sony VASG to be bundled with this) and PC. ND was supposed to be working with Bend on a new Uncharted so probably is what she is talking about. They also did help the Uncharted movie and TLOU tv show, and Druckmann draftted the main story for TLOU3.

In a year or so all these projects may be completed and released, with maybe only this Uncharted game in the works (maybe in an advanced state if they were already working on it some years ago) pretty likely they will start their next new IP -which could also be already in the works, who knows- and TLOU3. They could work in these 2 or 3 big projects at the same time while another team (Iron Galaxy or Nixxes) ports Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection to PC.

Well duh.

Why would they stop making more entries in a critically & commercially successful franchise, especially after a successful film adaptation?
Even if Naughty Dog aren't the ones developing it, I can't imagine Sony would leave all of that money on the table.

I like Naughty Dog's approach of new IP + sequel, and I'm expecting a new IP for the PS5 generation, in addition to new entries in already established IPs.

“Being related to Sir Francis Drake, the Uncharted franchise feels very personal and I’m so honored to be working with those who brought aspects of our family story to life,” she writes.

If that's true, then that's rather cool.

I am quite interested in seeing what Sony will do with this franchise in the future. I'd like to see them produce an expanded home console version of the PS Vita game Uncharted: Golden Abyss. It's been exclusive to the handheld for the last 10 years (it's not even playable on PSTV), so it would be good to have alongside Nate's other adventures on PS5. If they want to delve earlier into the timeline, then it might be fun to have a game with Sully as the player-controlled protagonist.

I am very pro Uncharted. PS3 peak gameplay would feel fresh as hell to me in 2023. I'd abandon Last of Us before this.

Lost legacy is a 7 hour spin off and not a mainline game. even if it was, that was 5 years ago and changes nothing from my post.

Lost Legacy is just as long as the original Uncharted

Naughty Dog have gone an entire generation having not made a new IP, it’s time they focus on that, every other studio has moved onto a new ip or currently is now.

No one wants another generation of just uncharted and last of us, and last of us is due for a final game by end of this gen.

Well its over for me, I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the series, I even enjoyed UC4 despite some of my issue with it but I'm kind of over the series.

So? Lost Legacy is also just as long as The Order 1886.

Ok, which means trying to write it off as just some “spinoff” side game doesn’t make sense. It’s a full stand alone AAA Uncharted game, the 6th in the series.

We don’t need a 7th Uncharted game anytime soon. Naughty Dog can bring that type of action and writing to a new franchise.

This is the problem with series like Gears, or Assassins creed, tomb raider they eventually just get stale and forgettable. It’s good for Uncharted to go out on top. It doesn’t need to sequeled to death.

The best parts about uncharted are just what naughty dog do best. It’s under serving them to stick to two games

People act like they are bad games in this thread lol. We’ve had 15+ Final Fantasies, 9 mainline Resident Evil games, how many cod games that are the same?

Whether you don’t like the “pacing“ ( still the lamest excuse to be a hater I mean not like a game ) They are still better than 90% of games out there.

If you dont like the Uncharted series simply dont buy it or play it. Im all for more Uncharted games, just don’t use the main Naughty Dog team., they need to make new IP and finish TLOU3

Fixed that for you. The vita game is definitely not a mainline title either, please.

And I disagree with basically all of your post, if the studio likes the world they've created and want to keep working on them then who are we to tell them they should quit? If you don't want more Uncharted then you're more than welcome to tap out and vote with your wallet. I personally want to see the series continue.

I kinda get your point of view of going out on top.

Even if its not the main naughty dog team maybe they should stop, but I also dont mind them working on past Drake or other characters stories.

There fun to play for me. I havent finished an Uncharted game and thought man that was a drag. There like 10 hours, I can do one of those every few years At least.
And I agree sometimes the same games get super stale, Im in 2 minds about it.

If we do let games series breath it doesnt always mean it will come back better. Sometimes it totally does.
If we didnt release Cod’s every year ( which started to feel repetitve at COD3) we wouldnt have got the best cods like modern warfare and black ops. But I also loved how God of War changed.

In the past and modern times we got some great series because they released them one after the other. Back in the day we got Tomb Raider 1-4 on PS1/Saturn etc. or FF7,8,9,10 all in like 5 or so years
Uncharted 1-3 and Gears 1-3, Resistance 1-3 all came out in 1 generation. And they were all great.

They might not change the industry and innovate anymore, but they will please people who like those games I guess

I feel like ND must be very bored of making these linear cinematic games at this point. Hopefully they're working on something completely different.

i can tell you one thing, whenever Sony has another big showcase and the next big Naughty Dog game is revealed to be Uncharted people are gonna be livid. Lol

When you the best at doing it why stop? Its like asking for Rockstar to not do open world again.

But Id also love for Naughty Dog to use their tools and knowledge in an open world game or something completely new.
I did love how they changed the combat from Uncharted 3/ TLOU1 to Uncharted 4/TLOU2 and the bigger level design

Do not make that hacktor(shitty actor) manlet Holland the canonical Drake.

Uncharted needs better aiming mechanics, I remember when 4 came out it was a real shit show and they took a while to figure out how to fix the guns to make the game more playable.

Uncharted 3 tried to take the silly lightheartedness and bring some reality to Drake to make him like a real person, but it didn’t work because seconds after a “real world“ serious conversation about growing up and acting like an adult then Drake would go back to climbing around a building like a child/monkey.

I haven’t played TLoU2 but at least 1 showed a change from the “we want to make the tone of this more dramatic and serious” from the Uncharted “here’s a serious conversation and now the protagonist is doing something stupid and silly”.

Well yeah that would suck if there main team is doing another Uncharted.
But I really dont think they are gonna do that, maybe a newly made team at Naughty Dog will work on it or another studio altogether

I've always liked Uncharted way better than The Last of Us, and even I think they should take a small break before making a new one. However, if they do come back, it should be under two conditions:

1) They do a God of War style reboot and save the next entry for PS6. New cast, and maybe have old Drake or Chloe being the new Sully in the situation. Which leads me to point 2.

2) Amy Hennig should be the lead again. I think Druckmann wouldn't evolve the series in the correct way since he seems to care more about TLoU. Amy just loves Uncharted more than him and has mentioned in the past, on Nolan North/Troy Baker's Youtube show, that she would want to do things way differently if she had another chance at Uncharted. It feels like a Cory Barlog situation where Sony should take a chance on her idea and end up with something great.

I really didnt feel how the aiming is bad or different. Maybe Im too simple but it felt fine. I played U3 after 6 months but U4 I played on launch and it felt kinda the same to me as the other uncharted games.

What 3rd person games would you say they should try and copy when it comes to aiming mechanics?

Because linear cinematic is a limiting genre. A dev of ND's talent would be kind of wasted by continuing to make games like these.

If there's no big leap in enemy AI or realistic combat mechanics, then I'd rather not see an action adventure game in this formula again. Sure, there was a little more eye candy and bigger levels in their last sequels but I'm expecting much more than that from them.

Uncharted 2. 3 made the aiming feel more like 1, being weirdly stiff in places. Also, one of Uncharted 3's biggest issues it introduced is that enemies suddenly stopped reacting to bullet hits and instead felt like they had hidden health bars. Uncharted 2 had the perfect balance when it came to combat, aiming, and deadzones.

No chance of #2 happening, she has her own studio now and two big games in production.

We’ll see how her marvel and Star Wars games turn out
