I don't plan on doing a genocide run, I don't think I could stomach it, but what are some secrets or easter eggs I may have missed on my true pacifist run?

Oh okay.

I don't buy this. Why would
Toriel care about the well being of humans leaving the ruins if she was ok with straight up killing them outside? Hell, she even asks Sans to protect any humans that came to the underground.

The dialogue in that part is definitely weird but I don't see that being the case at all. It just clashes hard with the character.

Perhaps,
but only perhaps, she doesn't agree at all with Asgore's plan of taking seven Souls, but she also doesn't agree with Asgore lying to the entire Underground and getting their hopes up about freedom? I mean after all, Asgore is playing his folk like a damn fiddle there.

I mean after all she knows Asgore also doesn't want to do it, and I think that's what's important about her dialogue there. If Asgore really was out to get the Monsters free, he'd have gone out and got his six souls, doesn't mean she necessarily condones it, but more that she condems that he talked big about needing those but actually just sat around in his throne room hoping that no humans ever come around so he doesn't have to take their souls instead of actually admitting he's too much of a softie to take someone's life just to destroy the barrier, I mean after all in his boss fight he literally waits for the last chance of him killing you, letting your HP even go down to 1HP regardless of damage just because he doesn't wanna do it. Asgore wasn't honest about this at all, and I think that's what Toriel is upset about.

I have a very irrelevant and unimportant question about Asgore that's bugging me

Is his battle sprite supposed to have a huge, malicious grin? That's what it looks like to me but it feels like I'm seeing it wrong because of how totally not okay he is with murdering you.

I can see how you see that, but it's actually his nose. His head is bent down so he's not looking at you while killing you.

Holy shit,
I always thought he put on a mask or helmet, noticing that makes it so much better
That, his reactions to trying to talk him out of it, the music, his acknowledgement to possibly killing you beforehand,THE FACT THAT HE EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THE BUTTERSCOTCH CINNAMON PIE I ATE DURING THE FIGHT all made it incredibly difficult to actually fight him.

Just beat the Neutral Path, my head hurts. Guess I got to do the quest to befriend the two lovers. This game was awesome though.
Flowery now scares me...

Ok, I'm told there are paths in this game and I started playing yesterday and this is as far as I have gotten.

I killed Toriel because I am stupid and didnt understand the combat. I reloaded but the game still knew. Am I locked into the neutral path now?

the game will acknowledge that you killed her once but since you went back it's still a pacifist run

Hmm, alright. I didn't want to do a hard reset and wipe all the data since that seems to go against the theme of the game. Is there a true pacifist run where you don't even reset?

nah. If you hear people say true pacifist that is because pacifism gives you the best ending.

So Markiplier is doing a poll on what he should play and you guys should flood him with Undertale votes

Fo realio

I know a lot of people don't like him but I'd honestly say his non-horror LPs are often his best. He emotionally attaches easily and loves clever themes and ideas so his reactions to this game should be enormously emotional and entertaining.

Man I don't even follow his channel but if he played undertale I'd subscribe just for that.
It looks like a real close race though.

It's been weeks now and my mind is still wandering back to this.

Undertale is a fantastic example of a (somewhat) simple story well told. In a pretty short amount of time it gives you reasons to care about every damn character and builds to a soaring conclusion that was completely earned.

It's the kind of thing that makes it increasingly frustrating that the latest shiny AAAA titles with millions and millions of dollars spent seem to have such an impossibly hard time creating even a single compelling character.

Edit: It also wound up being just the kind of inspiration I needed on the eve of NaNoWriMo.

I don't think any game I've ever played has stuck with me this long. It's been over a month now at this point and I cannot get this game out of my head. Even with other games I ended up loving like Persona 4, I just listened to the music( and still do) and it never really fully occupied my mind if I remember correctly. For this I'm constantly on the reddit for it and even Tumblr looking for fanart and music covers and shit like that.

I think fact that I'm watching it become bigger and more noticeable is probably among the reasons it's stuck with me. I want people to experience this game so I'm more invested in it.

I've really been enjoying this game, but I've died to
Asgore
about 10 times now and I'm pretty frustrated. I didn't kill anyone and so am level 1 and have 20 health. I've beaten every Souls game and this is going to be the game that breaks me.

I'm trying to find tips on beating this boss it looks like I somehow didn't do all the stuff to get the Pacifist stuff, I guess. I guess that's what I get for just playing the game with no real goal.

Do you know what you should be doing during the fight?
Hint
He destroyed the mercy button. Only enemy to do that.

Explicit
You have to actually fight him.

Tips regardless
I believe talking to him 3 times makes his attack and defense go down. Also make sure to have healing items obviously.

and regarding the pacifist stuff
What exactly did you miss? I believe the only thing that can really lock you out other than killing something is not giving water to Undyne.

Yeah, I am fighting him. I can get him down to about ¼ left of his health. There's a couple of attack patterns that I'm just not picking up on. And with only 20 health and maybe 5 or 6 food items, I can't get him quite down.

As for the pacifist thing, I was reading that if I'm even fighting Asgore, that means I messed up.

Ado, when I to taking to him more than once it just says I say nothing. It didn't seem like taking to him a few times did anything, but I'll try again.

You almost had him when he was 1/4. You start doing more damage has his health goes down I believe.

And no you didn't mess up. You have to get a neutral ending first to get pacifist ending. If you go pacifist up to the neutral end, it just allows you to reload your save to do the last requirements you need to rather then resetting everything.

Why does the tall three times thing seem to not work?

hmm. really not sure. If I'm remembering correctly it should say like you tell him to stop fighting. and then his attack and defense should drop. Weird if it doesn't work.

Wow, San is really lazy going by the Genocide Route video. He could
have easily taken out Flowery.
Not really,
the only people aware of Flowey's existence are Frisk and Papyrus. In the Pacifist ending Sans gets caught off guard by Flowey so he can't do anything about it

This is when the timelines get really weird since
Flowey says he's died to Sans many times and have had to reset due to that, which means when flowey had the save power he was above Sans' power?

Ah now that you say it, I get why.
Flowery is an allegory for the player. Since the player can beat Sans, then Sans can be beaten. Although since the player has more DETERMINATION than Flowery, Flowery can never win.

It does put context why the final boss in True path was so easy.

To my knowledge, Flowey never says that Sans has killed him, just that he's made him reset many times, which could have been due to other factors, like Sans deliberately screwing up events that Flowey was setting in motion by other means.

Though even considering that--Sans isn't invincible. He goes down in a single hit if caught off guard, so Flowey catching him off guard in the Pacifist Ending isn't out of character. Sans is good but not perfect.

Got the door to appear twice in about a dozen tries. Definitely feels like more than 0.1% appearance rate. The sound he makes scared the shit out of me.
