America, from the UK here... If you guys let Romney win... Well fuck you basically. Don't do it... Don't.

It won't do anything to us, which is why I want Romney to win. Him winning will turn the news into a movie.

See, I wouldn't have any problem with John McCain winning four years ago if it weren't for batshit crazy Sarah Palin.

Now I am scared of batshit crazy Romney and batshit crazy Ryan.

Can somebody explain the electoral college to me? I know what it is and how it works, I just have never heard a compelling argument as to why it exists, or why it originated in the first place

If I got this right, to start we're not actually voting for president. We are voting to choose representatives (an electoral college) who will choose the president.

Excited for Texas results.

If the Democrats gain house seats I will drink 1 Beer.

If the Democrats win a Senate seat I will drink 2 beers.

If Obama wins Texas I will drive a truck full of Steveweiser to the first Romney Ryan signs I see, spray them with beer and then give them a stunner.

But I expect to be sober tonight.

And back when the country was founded, this system actually made more sense.

It doesn't work.
Slavery was the reason.
Could you elaborate?

To not have urban areas dominate rural ones.

It's important that every region of the country gets a say in who becomes President.

The number of electoral votes is proportional to the state's population, right? It just seems like there is no reason for us to not directly elect the president. I would think an argument could easily be made that it harms democracy, especially since the swing states are the only ones that matter and get any play under the EC

Originally the people didn't vote for the president. Officials in their state governments would cast electoral votes to choose who would lead the federal government. The reason they did this is that they didn't think the citizens really knew what would be best for the country as a whole, and that the people they elected to run their local government would make better decisions. The federal government of the United States was designed to be a Republic that had minimal direct influence by the people.

Can't wait for the end of the night and Wolf. "We'll, basically Obama won, but it as only 2% higher so its virtually a tie in my book."

Following this from the other side of the pond (Sweden), and really hoping you guys will do the right thing and not the batshit insane thing. To me it's just so hard to believe that any rational human being with decent values would even consider voting for Romney, but apparently about half of the US population lacks those qualities. So we'll see.
Yeah it's crazy that Romney seems to have a real shot at winning this.

Still have hope sanity will prevail, but I was shocked when it happened in 2008 and would be even more shocked if americans do the right thing 2 times in a row.

2000 was the most important election of our lifetimes, yet no one knew it at the time.

I was only 11 during that election, but I remember people not hating on Bush or Gore nearly as much as people are hating on Obama/Romney.

Elections have gotten lethal with all of the social media and shit these days.

People from America and foreign countries posting in here like they are fearing Romney winning like it's the worst thing ever need to chill. Sounds just like people tripping out when it was looking like Obama might win. Neither candidate is the worst ever and will ruin everyone's lives and the world. There are still tons of elected officials and other members of government who have an enormous influence on the direction of the country. I don't particularly love either candidate, but neither am I fearing the election of either as a possible embarrassment to our country/ vessel of imminent destruction.

LOL looks like Nate was wrong perhaps

Yes everything has been decided within the first 10 minutes of like 3 states polls being closed.

The fuck is wrong with some of you people? lol

EDIT: And I'm sticking with watching CNN again for this election like my last 2. Their mastery of touch-screens is straight up fucking boss status.
