As a Canadian who isn't super familiar with the US political system, I have a question:

I am looking at Huffington Post's live election results, and they are reporting wins for Romney and Obama in certain states. When I look down the included results chart at these states, they often say that less than 10% of the ridings have reported in. How can they call a win if so many ridings have yet to report?

Imagine a state with two counties. One county typically votes 70-30 Democratic, it's called Big City County. One county typically votes 55-45 Republican, it's called Farmer Land County. Big City County has way more people. Imagine that Farmer Land County is 25% in and is going 50-50 (and we have no reason to believe other precincts yet to report in the county are going to be materially different). Do you need more information to call the state?

At this point in the lead in Ohio is much smaller then at the same point in 2008. He was up by 33 in 2008 and this time it's only 18.

I can't believe how good Florida is looking.

I wonder how much CNN spent on election coverage, it seems they puled out all the stops for tonight budget wise.
