With the overreaction from some people, some of the turn-abouts of the results, gay marriage spreading and marijuana legalized, the possibility of a 51st state made more of a possibility than ever, and the possibility that Nate Silvers may indeed be a wizard, this has been one of the most interesting election days in a long while.

Was kinda hoping it would end with the glasses on this image:

if obama grew a beard and always used that expression he wouldn't look unlike a schnauzer.

Congrats Americans, you chose wisely! Hope the Republicans will work with Obama instead of sabotaging him and by the same time their country whenever they can.

Won't happen, but Chris Christie certainly has found himself in an advantageous position.

Some lively facebook action going on on a status I commented on. Culminates with this epic speech by some republican yuppie!

Amazing that the president of America has that much impact. I never knew.

Wow that sounds as insane as the muslim fundamentalists, we dont get alot right here in the uk but for the most part keeping religion out of politics is one of them.

Nifty AND saffron-colored!
Dammit, Bachmann's lead widening slightly. Up from 500 votes to roughly 1600. 74% counted.

It's pretty amazing how just looking at crowd shots of Romney's crowd at his HQ and Obama's at his, the problem for the Republicans is thrown into sharp relief. There wasn't a single non-Caucasian face in Romney's building. Meanwhile in Obama's, every other face was a minority. This will be the last election where the Republicans tried the White Voter Strategy, because the demographics of the United States isn't going to stop shifting. They will move to the center, or they will perish.

Well said

What I'm hearing from fox news now: It seems like white people aren't racist enough, but minorities certainly are. Therefore we need a minority candidate next time!

So Hillary is pretty much a lock to win next election isn't she?

The one last hurdle IMO is the fiscal cliff. If Bams can successfully navigate it and strike a grand bargin, I think the dems (i.e. Hillary if she wants it) have a fantastic chance in 2016.

Hahahahaha. Matthew Daud just said, MULTIPLE times, "this will be the last election that we see two white men running against each other." The studio is cracking up, hahaha.

Hopefully one well played moment doesn't outweigh the fact he's just a really unpleasant person and I wouldn't want him doing foreign relations. 4 years is a lot of time though. He could reshape his image within that time frame easily.

The cynic in me thinks it will largely be for naught. I think just confirming new treasury and state secretary's is going to be a hell of a knock down fight.

I'm just happy the supreme court has the possibility of swinging back toward sanity.

Even if that's all I get for four years I'll honestly be ok.
The cynic in me doesn't disagree, which is frankly worrying. The questions of the Patriot Act and presidential power are too important to go to sleep at any conceivable time in the future, let alone in the next four years. Progressives shouldn't get comfortable.

Can you imagine him dealing with China or Iran? Eek.

Email from the Prez:

I'm about to go speak to the crowd here in Chicago, but I wanted to thank you first.

I want you to know that this wasn't fate, and it wasn't an accident. You made this happen.

You organized yourselves block by block. You took ownership of this campaign five and ten dollars at a time. And when it wasn't easy, you pressed forward.

I will spend the rest of my presidency honoring your support, and doing what I can to finish what we started.

But I want you to take real pride, as I do, in how we got the chance in the first place.

Today is the clearest proof yet that, against the odds, ordinary Americans can overcome powerful interests.

There's a lot more work to do.

But for right now: Thank you.

Barack

To the people worrying about Tennessee, it's really bad. You guys have got to get involved in local politics. Don't say gay bill? HB 368 (monkey bill)?

This is why people who say they don't vote piss me the fuck off. You people have got to understand that it's not just the guy in the White House. It's local laws, all the way down to your county and city.

Get informed, go to primaries, go to all elections, and participate. Trust me, you make an impact at the local levels when several people run unopposed and on city issues with low participation. Shit, most GOP and Dem Senate and House candidates win their primaries by a few hundred votes in some areas. So, ya know, do something.
