So what I hear is that it's not the fact that it's illegal that's the problem it's the insane drug war attached to it. Still not very compelling reason to legalize it. I think it's a reasonable middle ground up here where it's not legal but you won't go to jail for using it. I don't know if the technical term would be misdemeanor but something along those lines.

I've never really heard a compelling argument for it to be illegal in the first place.

I'm not using one editorial endorsement to say that the NYT has a biased and favorable opinion of President Obama. Everyone and their mother knows that the NYT is biased and skewed to the left. It's the name of the game.

Of course I expected them to endorse Obama, but don't expect me, or the average person to take 538 or Nate Silver seriously when they're associated with an organization that has been in the Democratic parties pocket for decades.

538 was right on the Obama v. McCain campaign, but that was easy to call.

538 was also right about the Republican-dominated 2010 elections. Funny how people seem to ignore this when arguing against 538.

Was there a good reason to legalize alcohol?

And? Why would you even bring this up? If someone comes to work drunk I'd hope everyone thinks the same.

Right? Its the silliest argument ever, as if people that smoke a non-addictive plant, have to be high all day & at work...?

Tax it. Cut down on Mexican shipments of POT. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/wor...ould-hurt-mexicos-cartels-study-suggests.html
Hurt the cartels.
Help fellow citizens.

Why the hell do people vote against this, its just being childish. Moderation is key to any drug. Over the counter, or with an age attached to it like Alcohol.

Claiming that everyone is just going to be stoned and rolling around committing crimes all day is not a good reason against it, and its pretty much the whole "BLACK PEOPLE AND MINORITIES GET EVIL ON DRUGS!" mentality. Whether its realized or not.

Pizza: Onions, Canadian Bacon, Green Pepper, Red Pepper Flakes and Sriracha sauce.
Club Sandwich: "I order it all the time, but I'm not even a member man." -Mitch Hedberg
Wings: BW3 Hot BBQ with Mango Habanero on the side.
Thai: Lard Nar with squid. Extra Spicy.
Chinese: Sesame Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, Crab Ragoon with Chinese mustard.

Wash it all down with this:

Damn, some great stuff here. Unfortunately, I can't find some of the more exotic stuff on your list (Lard Nar and Crab Ragoon).

I ended up settling on some of what was suggested earlier. I got: pad thai, beef satay, steamed rice, and stir fried vegetables (hot). I've been eating mainly pizza and shawarma for the last little while so I thought I would spice it up.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Are any of the networks streaming their results coverage? Sorry if this has been asked 1,000 times.

I waited in line for 2 hours, this morning, just to vote for Turd Sandwich (Obama). He better win. Giant Douche (Mittens) is a terrible person and candidate. PEACE.

I hear David Dimbleby is warming up for another all-nighter. Must be an election somewhere. For coverage streams in the UK, BBC and ITV will be live via their respective players, and I believe Sky News is also free-to-stream.

The BBC has their specific news page with their coverage. Currently running pre-rolls explaining various aspects about the election and recorded news reports. They go live in about twenty minutes or so.

According to CNN, voters identified (but not necessarily voted) as 37% Democratic, 34% Republican and 29% Independent.

I had no idea that the number of Independents were that high.

Pad thai is a solid choice. I generally go for panang curry if available. With some chicken in there, got damn.

The independents are high because people stopped identifying as republicans

There's a good chance inds go 50/50

Rick Scott cut our early voting days from 14 to 8 knowing this would happen.
I really do hope that alienates as many conservative voters as democrat ones. Preferably more, or that it's enough to swing votes out of spite, because fuck trashing the whole process in the hopes you scare people from voting in someone you don't want.

There's been ample stores done showing a lot of Republicans stopped actually identifying as Republicans and now call themselves Independents.

This is from a UK based political blog (and Islington is a fairly trendy area of London, btw)

"Today, says American political journalist Michael Brendan Dougherty, ’120 million Americans will choose who they don’t want to be president.’ Exactly — for all Mitt Romney and Barack Obama’s upbeat noise over the last few days, the 2012 US presidential elections have been motivated, entirely, by fear and loathing.

The key questions: Are you so fed up with Barack Obama that you can bring yourself to vote for Romney? Or do you hate the Republicans enough to vote for Obama? With all its attack ads and its mudslinging, this election has been negative populism from the start. It’s not liberalism vs conservatism; it’s anti-liberalism vs anti-conservatism.

Let’s not be pious, though. Passion and ‘values’ are hugely overrated virtues. Negativity is what democracy is all about, really; and it’s much more exciting. Certainly, it’s why we non-Americans are so interested in tonight’s result. Most of the Brits cheering for Mitt Romney don’t actually want him to be president. They are just eager for a repeat of the glorious night of schadenfreude in 2004, when the smug libs prematurely celebrated a John Kerry victory, only to spend the next day weeping in public as Dubya triumphed again.

Equally, those trendy Islington couples who are tonight hosting election parties might convince themselves that, in cheering on Obama, they are rooting for progress — but really they are getting together to have a good hate about stupid rightwing Americans. Bring it on."

Ordering Red Chicken Curry, #3 spice with Steamed Veggies

Washing it down with Capt/Coke, and have some Sam Adams Winter Lager. Ready to settle in for the long haul tonight.
