Book Joffrey is only, what? 14/15? And 12/13 when the Bran thing happened?

He's 13 during his wedding so he was likely 12 during the assassination attempt.

Plus, this is Joffery opens-cats-to-show-you-the-kittens Baratheon, logic and reason aren't his strong suit.

Roose Bolton's bastard son, Ramsey Snow. Roose was a stark banner man until the end of last season, Theon and his Ironborn brethren are occupying areas in the north. The hope in the show is that they can treat with the iron isles to leave the north in exchange for Theon. Theon's father says he won't do it at the end of last season, so his sister assembles a force to go save Theon.

That's the jist anyway.

Alright thanks for clarification and now to leave in case of spoilers

So he goes out of his way and gets Theon not for any specific reason? I can't remember if they explained this I was just thinking about it.

He's sent to retake Winterfell and capture Theon by Robb and his father. He's kept Theon because he's leverage to use against Theon's father who been raiding the North whilst Robb was at war down South.

Yeah that moment felt like Martin realized that he had never tied up that plot line, and so he just had Tyrion do some infallible mental gymnastics to answer the question for everyone. Sometimes I feel like his attempts to make Tyrion super smart veer into Sherlock Holmes-style madness. The Joffrey killed Bran bit is the worst of it, but the way he just figures out who Connington is in Dance is pretty bad, too.

Although Tyrion acts to Connington etc. that he just figured it out that's not actually how he did it. He finds out who Connington and Aegon are because he beats the Maester at cyvasse in a game in which the wager was secrets. The maester presumably told him who they were as the secret he had to reveal. Although Tyrion reveals he knows it at perhaps the worst possible time, when they are being attacked by the people with greyscale.

I couldn't help myself.

I declare that this is now the official page header of this thread.

I am so hyped. Really wish Sky Atlantic were live streaming this one as well.

Looking forward to the internet meltdowns (or like, the opposite of meltdowns) and the long WebMs of Joff choking.

Hopefully people don't feel the need to shit up the other thread. Just let them deal with it themselves. Especially don't spoil who was responsible, that probably won't be confirmed this episode.

I thought it was fine how this thread handled the Red Wedding in the other thread. Few posts, a few .gifs. No spoilers. Really just sharing the moment with them.

I don't think it will be confirmed for a long time.
That depends on how the Sansa/Littlefinger storyline is handled. I'm pretty sure in the book he told her on the boat, which she gets on soon after the wedding ended, that he and the Queen of Thorns were behind the poisoning. I expect by the third or fourth episode this season it will be revealed. I suppose they could hold onto it until the end of the season, when I anticipate Lysa will die, but I think Sansa would need something before following Littlefinger away from King's Landing.

Who's to say how long years are in Westeros, a year there might be 1.2/1.3 earth years for all we know with the whole seasons lasting years thing, that might make Robb/Jon 16/17.

Even with the dodgy seasons I think GRRM always meant to keep the normal day, month, year cycle.

I thought he figured out Connington on his own and then learned Aegon in the cyvasse match, but I may be misremembering.

Then you have a poor memory. There were a few bannings, lots of deleted posts, etc. It was a shit show for a few pages.

Yeah, it really wasn't. Haha. It was a smug, annoying shit show (as was previously stated). It was really the worst and I hope we can avoid it tonight.

How would that be possible considering what we base those things on? I don't know what they go off of for years but I always assumed they were a smidge longer due to the fact you couldn't reliably use seasons and the kids were all so young.

Yeah.. I remember one poster was just SPAMMING a shitty .gif over and over again until he finally got banned.

I will concede that. I pretty much only remember "book thread sends it's regards", which I thought was hilarious.

If I recall, we had decided that was all we were going to do and we had even designated someone to say just that line but it went way past that. THAT would've been great but it was ruined.

Ah. I read that, posted a .gif and got out. Shame then. Good rule then. Show watchers should be able to get the most enjoyment out of the show without book readers fouling it up for them.

Quick repost of the reminder from earlier before we get started tonight. Thanks for your help, everyone.

Any casket dancing and other shenanigans in the other thread tonight (or in general) will probably be met with a ban. This includes things like posting grinch.gif, "The book thread sends their regards", or anything else like that. Please just stay out of the other thread. Thank you.

Alright boys and girls, I'm on the west coast feed, so I'll see you guys later to discuss the deliciousness.

Maybe I'll pour a glass of red.

I don't intend to post at all in the unsullied thread, but may I ask what "casket dancing" means? I've never heard the phrase before (not native to English!). :)

Hah.

It basically means going in the thread and posting something like "Hehehe he's dead" and basically making posts about it that insinuate you knew it was happening all along.

It's awesome to lurk, but I would avoid posting in there in general for safe measure.

Seeya Steely, enjoy your evening!

Yeah, I refrain from posting after the general wrist-slapping, but I've been venturing there now and then to take a looksie. Partly cause the thread has cool pictures as well, and also to see the meltdowns that are gonna happen today.

That's just it though. This is going to be the opposite of a meltdown. This is going to be the first truly happy moment they've gotten to experience with this series.

GRRM's said himself he wished he'd aged up the book characters like the show so to him at least a 13 year old kid is a 13 year old kid.

I guess they could just use the moon cycles for keeping track of the months and years.
