It's pretty awesome what the non-readers are putting together over in their thread.

Indeed. Finally they've been given something to speculate and "solve." Lost and other shows proved tv fans can come up with a variety of crazy detailed theories, I'm glad the show put some trust in them for once tonight. Initially I assumed they'd do something like have the QoT marvel over the necklace, touch it, and then touch Joffery's cup while looking shady.

Come on guys, it's not a stretch for an observant viewer to figure out that the necklace in Ep.1 was a strange scene with seemingly no reason for being there, and Olenna fiddled with Sansa's hair for quite a long while.

So cynical. ;_;

Yeah, and we dgaf!

Yeah, some people on the internet are just really observant and that necklace sing last week really stuck out like a sore thumb.

1. Sansa is Tyrion's wife and they needed Tyrion to get blamed, for Sansa to escape (they think she's heir to the north, but obviously we know differently), and for Tyrion's "betrayal" of the family to really drive a wedge in it.

2. She's crafty. Worst case scenario if it were to be found out, she can claim that she's never seen the necklace.

3. Joff was pretty much out to kill Tyrion and Cersei knew it. It was likely who would get blamed.

4. Mace Tyrell has a huge army/navy and is literally keeping everyone fed. The war against Stannis isn't over, and the throne is tenuously held. They didn't show it on the show, but Tywin is kind of the Tyrell's bitch at this point; They get what they want, period.

Why bother putting poison on the necklace, just make a proper necklace and have the "necklace poison" under control instead of giving it to Sansa the dim. Have LF break the "necklace that no one will ever see again" later for continuity

If memory serves it was a hairnet in the books with very small stones (the kind that no one would ever notice missing because they are so small).

I don't remember when it was given to her, but I have to think that it was very shortly prior so that they'd be sure she wore it. Otherwise Dontos may have told her to make sure to wear it or something. It's been too long. In any case, they were sure enough. It's not like this would have been their only chance ever to get rid of him, so failure was an option as long as they didn't get blamed. This was their best chance to get rid of him AND get who they think is the heir to the North though.

Psychological Intellect is clearly either a book reader or wiki reader, You don't just immediately stumble on the truth like that.

What a shame. I was enjoying the whodunnit theories developing.

I don't really see how it couldn't have been some simple critical thinking. I mean, you have the episode last week that was incredibly out of place, in which some dude that hasn't been seen for two seasons suddenly reappears and gives Sansa a random necklace. Then she's wearing said necklace, and it's clear that Olenna is fiddling with her for an awful long time.

Yeah, Dontos appearing last week in such a weird manner was totally odd and gave away a big part of the plot.

Sorry for interrupting the funneral but...

So there's not gonna be a Penny now in the show?

The "entertainment" was quite different.

The book plot is bad too, surprise.

Why even bother with the ruse if the stone is so small no one would notice! Just keep the crux of your elaborate poison plot in your own control.

I expect there will be, but since that might some time away (years?) they probably didn't want to commit to an actress this early.

I just love that Mace actually appears to be a bit slow in the head. The smiling after Joffrey tried the sword was so funny.

Also, the banter between Oberyn and Tywin was spectacular. An unexpected highlight of a great episode.

This was a reminder to me of the scene last season with Tywin and Tyrion where Lena Headey just couldn't hold her own against the acting presence of the other two.

I shouldn't be in here without having read Dance. I'm not sure which thread I should be in. :(
Go read it.

I don't blame her for bad eyebrows, I blame her for having less range than Edmure Tully with a bow.
Oh shit. :lol

Yeah.

At least the show doesn't have detailed flashbacks of Dany being fingered by her handmaiden, or like 7 detailed TyrionXShae passages.
I miss that. :(

That's the biggest difference between the book and the show. In the book Dontos talking with Sansa many times and planning her escape it was less obvious the hairnet was important. In the show having him show up for the first time in 2 full seasons to give her a necklace it's suspicious.

Joffrey's death was as wonderfully gruesome as I remembered. I'd forgotten so much of the wedding (like the midget thing), and the dialogue (like Oberyn/Tywin/Cersei's) was so good, awesome episode. As much as I enjoy the series, GRRM episodes are definitely the ones I look forward to most and this was definitely worth it.

And it's easier to examine a necklace with 7 stones than a hairnet with a lot of smaller stones.

Oh shit. Show poster here.

SOMEBODY PUT UP THE GIANT WARNINGS!

I read that and my heart dropped because I thought I had posted in the non-book-reader thread for a second.

The Robb dwarf kept the mask on at all times. They can either retcon it so Penny was under the mask, or just have her as an offscreen sister to one of them who didn't take part in the show.

Or just part of the troupe. It's not a big deal.

That was great.

I raise my cup to Gleeson, he was one of the better actors of the show and probably surpassed Book Joffrey.

I'm pretty sure all you really need is this shot

and then you just reverse engineer it from there

One big thing that is overshadowed by the end of this episode is the beginning. It seems like instead of "Where are Bran and Rickon?" being a thing that's sort of addressed much later and by different people, they're going full bore with Roose and Ramsay being in the know and setting up their own plot to find them.

I feel like the fact that they WEREN'T killed wasn't even brought up for a LONG time in the books. And even then it was brought to Davos' attention by someone else (Mander something? A giant fat guy I think) who basically sets him on a quest to find Rickon only.

Yeah it seems like a change meant to help non-readers figure it out more than anything.

Wyman Manderly. Otherwise known as the truest of Northmen.

But yeah, they're clearly trying to keep all the characters going each season instead of pacing it like the books.

Also just remembered, the show's version of Vargo Hoat is going up to the wall? That's quite a deviation, even if Locke is pretty funny.
