I've been waiting almost 10 years here on GAF for that one. :lolI can't believe I walked you right into that pun.

Yeah, all of those as well. I mean, even if there are a few positive changes (though I struggle to think of any), the negative far outweigh the positive.!
Essos did get more interesting with Tyrion and Arya being there though. It went from a 2/10 to a 5/10.![]()
I love your optimism. You know, if they're really only doing 2 more seasons after next and let's say book 6 comes out next summer, that means it will probably be two or three years AFTER the show is done before Book 7 comes out.
Was the Olenna and Tywin talking scene in the books? If not, props to them.
I think there's a possibility that we'll still see an Aegon in the show except he'll have nothing to do with Tyrion. I've read some interesting theories that Show Trystane will either replace Aegon or be Aegon disguised as Prince Doran's heir.I would agree Jon's assassination probably isn't until season 6. As for Euron, I wouldn't get your hopes up for seeing him this season. Season 6 is more likely. Aegon and Connington are in all likelihood completely cut. There hasn't been a speck of evidence for either of them showing up, and Jorah and Tyrion have been filming on a riverboat, suggesting that Jorah is taking the place of all of that.
They have a few scenes in the show that aren't in the book (neither is a viewpoint character). Olenna shitting on Mace at Joffrey's wedding was amazing.
Quite a few bigger sites picked up the story, whoops. It's kind of impressive how a vaguely worded comment can spin off a bunch of articles and speculation these days - goes to show how big the show has gotten.
I thought Ros was great. Maybe not a big player or anything, but an interesting end in herself.

This eliminates the need for Arianne, Quentyn, and JonCon with a significant chunk of ADWD and onward condensed. If Aegon ends up taking the throne in TWOW and battles Dany later on we'll still be able to see that. It sucks that so much is being cut but if they want seven 10 episode seasons significant changes need to be made.
I think she was pretty decent, and the scene where it is just Cersei and Robert talking was just spectacular.
Pretty much. Doran's plan would be vengeance through his nephew. The only confusion is what role will Myrcella play? Would she just be killed off instead of maimed so Trystane would be free to marry Dany? Are you saying that show Trystane would be the child of Elia and Rhaegar, like a Dornish Jon Snow?
That...might actually work.

And if Aegon really is being raised by Doran that adds a lot more depth to last season's scene with Oberyn and Varys.

I'll probably never have work on one project for seven straight years in my entire career. Who would want to? Even GRR doesn't want to work on ASOIAF year round full time.
Yeah totally! I loved that. Those two actors were great together.
That's... probably true though. ;_; If I never read another "wherever whores go" it'll be too soon.
"We know". "Disastrous".

I really do not think that about 3.5 books can be covered in only 30 episodes. Maybe we will see some sort of episode split between two years just like Breaking Bad. It's pretty much a given at this point that some material from books 4&5 will slip into Season 6. Bowen Marsh being only in Season 5 up until episode 6 makes me feel that we might not see Jon's Assassination until the beginning of Season 6. Of course I could be very wrong with this.
Who wants to work on a project for six straight years? Who wants to work on a project for five straight years? Four? Blech. Too long! Variety is the spice of life!
Thing is, none of the actors work on Game of Thrones full time. They all have opportunities to work on other projects in between seasons - Emilia Clarke is doing all sorts of movies, including the new poorly named Terminator Genisys, Maisie Williams is in a bunch of things (The Last of Us!), Kit Harington was in Pompeii and some other generic looking fantasy film; Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gwendoline Christie are all in upcoming films, etc. etc. I have no idea how long each actor spends on set filming a season of Game of Thrones, but because the cast is so large each character (even major ones) only gets a few dozen minutes of screen time per season anyway, so it can't be that bad.
They were! If only their scenes served a purpose and were there to do anything but delay character development for Arya...
Oh c'mon!![]()
So you disagree?
There's two! Only 705 more to go until it reaches parity with the list of negatives!
Mmm finding some kinship with your family's most profound enemy and then choosing to not try and murder him was worthwhile to me. Also putting those two actors together being clever and sly at each other is enough of a "purpose" for me too. The pleasures of TV are different than the pleasures of books.
JON NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead, Jon is not dead.
My only concern would be do we really need two plots where a man secretly adopts his dead sister's son after the war and claims it's his only to reveal that he's actually of royal heritage? Seems like it would detract from the eventual Jon reveal to drop that card now.

Tyrion would probably go with Varys to get the Golden Company but at some point he gets kidnapped by Jorah. That would give Aegon the army he needs. If Aegon is Trystane...does that mean he's really Trystane or a fake? I understand the show would be cutting the Blackfyre stuff but I'm curious whether they're going to make "Aegon" really Aegon, whereas it's pretty clear he's a fraud in the books. Plus the whole "Rhaegar having two sons with dark hair" thing.
And doesn't it kill the purpose of Doran being cautious and trying to ally with the most powerful army (ie dragons)? If it's just his quasi-son, how does that benefit Dorne? At least book Aegon has a large army of trained mercenaries, siege animals, and a very competent battle commander (Connington). Trystane-Aegon would just have Dorne, unless they have the Tyrells switch sides.
I'm saying, I doubt D&D have as much free time for side projects. Their's is the contract that matters re how many seasons happen.
HBO (all networks) has a horrific track record with shows that switch runners, as True Blood will attest.

So? This is bigger than they are - let 'em step down. It shouldn't be difficult at all to find a more capable showrunner to take their place.
It's not really though, it's their show. As far as we can tell, HBO has made next to no demands about how long the show goes or what direction it takes.
That's not to say HBO would cancel the show if D&D said "we're out" tomorrow, but they certainly aren't going to go step on the toes of the showrunners of their most successful show of all time. They have free reign to do what they want.
Oh yeah, for sureI'm saying that if they got pissy and wanted to leave because they got sick of working on GoT (of which, at this point, there has been no indication of), HBO could easily find someone to replace them with. Not that HBO necessarily would, but they certainly could.
I kinda half-expect the Snakes to get legitimized in the show.If trystane is Aegon and Quentyn and Arianne are cut, Doran has no more heirs? The death of house Martell?
Does not seem very plausible if you ask me.
I kinda half-expect the Snakes to get legitimized in the show.
I know Dorne doesn't look down upon bastards but are they allowed to be in the succession line? By that I mean can a bastard child be placed ahead of a full blood sibling due to them being older?

Even if they do, they'd still be Oberyns children and not Dorans, him having zero children when he's the head of House Martell seems stupid to me.
Yes. The series has many tales of how kings can remove the taint of bastardy.
