You can just download the installer. No Win10 icon here
- Windows 7 SP1 Professional
- Tried the batch method
- Update packs are downloaded
- Welp ... pretty lame that this is the only way to get your copy.
Can you disable this cortana stuff?
Why do people need the start menu will always be beyond me. There's nothing I can't access from shortcuts or typing in the search.
And then there's the taskbar.
It's good though that it's officially coming back.
This setting has been shown to have no effect on Win 10 (unless something has changed in the last 48 hours), but in the thread over in community there is a link to an MS KB patch that will let you block automatic driver installs from the new Windows Update.
Edit: here it is https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
Can you straight download it to a USB and clean install right away?
Its a bit silly but I think you have to install the upgrade first.
I know going without wires is more convenient for all sorts of reasons, but is it impossible for you to use anything wired with your current living situation?

I posted about the same thing just above. I checked for the folder that has W10 downloaded and I seem to have it. I'm not sure if Windows is trying to update to 10 right now, or what.
So that's the OS trying to upgrade itself?
Nope, install the upgrade first and make sure it's activated - THEN you can do a clean install and "skip" any prompts for a key until it's at the desktop and it will automatically be activated.
You'll be notified when it's ready to (and you're allowed to) install manually.
I know. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was just wondering if it was possible that windows was trying to start the update process before it should.
Has anyone actually gotten the notification that Windows 10 is ready to install? Or is everyone just manually running Setup?
Nope![]()

- You use your Windows 8.1 key to upgrade to Windows 10 which then upgrades your license key to a Windows 10 key.Didn't get the Windows BT folder yet.
A few questions though:
- I'm in-between doing an upgrade or a clean install, but if I do a clean install, I can use my WIndows 8.1 key to activate Windows 10? (Since my build uses WIndows 8.1)
- Will Xbox 360 controllers work on Windows 10?
- Is it possible to revert back to 8.1 and go back to Windows 10 in case it gets better?
Oh, I have the BT folder and tried to run the installer but it gives this error:
Windows was unable to locate required installation file [boot.wim]
Verify blah blah and restart install.
Maybe it hasn't downloaded everything?

- Yes
- If you upgrade from W8.1 you can revert after the install but trust me, you will not want to.
That's always been true of OEM and system-builder keys. But I've found that if you call Microsoft and sort of play dumb, they'll give you an updated key for your new build.
Hmmm my folder is smaller- 4.37 I believe.![]()
It hasn't changed ever since 1 hour ago. I also have the "update to win 10" error, but I guess it installs on the 29th. Though I do not have Microsoft Essentials update KB915597, and I couldn't find a direct download on Sevenforums as well.
Upgrading from window 8 > windows 8.1 > windows 10 is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
