The above article peaks my interest, but I hope GAFers in the Preview have some experience.
I want to know more about multiple monitors operating with different resolutions, with separate applications.
I want to run Steam exclusively on my 4K television, but keep everything else on my regular 1080p monitor. Anyone in the Preview tried this?

Lucky. Windows Update is so fucked on the original windows 8. I just spent 2 hours trying to get the essential updates to download.

The problems people have with Win 8 are mostly subjective dislike of the Metro interface (Which I agree with). But it takes all of 5 minutes to fix that problem by bringing back the Start menu with free software. I'm running Win 8.1 on multiple PCs & its faster than Win7.
I'm also running Win 10 Insider on my laptop in dual boot. Its a noticeable improvement over Win 8.1 in several ways. The clean install was problem free & updates have all been smooth as silk.
I'd recommend waiting about 6 months on your main gaming rig. Thats my plan at the moment. I'm going to upgrade &/or dual boot every system I own with Win 10. Its that much better than 7 or 8.1. But I'll keep my main gaming system on 8.1 a few more months until all the kinks are worked out. There's no rush anyway since you have a year to do the free upgrade path.
Edit: My one "beef" with Win 10 so far is the forced automatic updates, which have already caused a couple notable problems (the nVidia problem being the main one). There are workarounds to disable automatic updates, but its a major PITA. MS really does need to restore user control over all updates on all versions of Win 10. I suspect enough people will justifiably bitch & moan about this & MS may correct this bad "feature".
Can anyone confirm if the keylogging that was in the preview build from a while back is in the final version? Given my experience with Windows 8.1 (multiple crashes, certain programs not opening or shutting off at random) i'm looking to upgrade but between the possibility of that and what i've heard about the Wi-fi sharing, i'm hesitant to do so tomorrow.

Mine has been at 3.7 gb for hours. I updated everything pretty much windows related. I had a windows 10 failed notification in the update history as well.
I'm just going to forget about it, I wouldn't want the update to cause the games I'm currently playing to stop working for a few days or weeks. That would suck.

It's not *really* out, but people who clicked the icon in their tray and used that to reserve Windows 10, are having it preloaded on their systems today. And since it is preloaded, if you know where to look you can manually run Setup to install it early.

Agreed. I added an edit comment about Win 10 *Update* being automatic without the ability to easily turn it off (which sucks ass).
But I suspect the suckitude you are referring to is when a user is upgrading from one version of windows to another, yeah? Basically, people should always opt for a clean install. Upgrading sucks balls & creates all kinds of problems.

What am I losing by not doing a fresh install? Keep in mind this is only for my work PC, my gaming PC will stay on 8.1 for a bit longer (wait to see if all of my stuff will work on 10 before I upgrade), so inferior performance for gaming compared to a fresh install wouldn't really be an issue at all.
Wait... does Windows 10 not have Windows 8.1 style start menu? D:
I actually fell in love with it once I got 8.1 on my work laptop...
I'll be going for the "keep personal files" clean install option. Too many leftover bits of old installations I'd like to clean up.

I'm on it and haven't run into issues on dota 2 or bf4.
If you're primarily playing modern games that already work on 7 or 8.1 you'll probably be fine.
Games that require work around like dark souls might be more iffy.

Slightly off topic but I currently have a RAID setup that I no longer wish to use. Can I simply remove one of these HDD's and install a new, larger HDD after my fresh install of 10?

i would back up important files though. Never know if they get lost during the upgrade.
There are products that allow for this sort of thing on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, but these are more workarounds than true, simple solutions. And Steam's Big Picture mode is finicky with the whole "Primary" versus "Extended" desktops.
For people like me that want to work in my computer room with my 1080p monitor, and run an HDMI 2.0 cable to my living room for 4K gaming....a native solution built-in to Windows 10 would be amazing. This is why I'm curious as to how broadly and successfully the OS works for running apps on specific monitors. (I've always disliked Win 7's Extended mode for this kind of thing.)
If I can't play Dark Souls, then it's nothing but trash.

You can just enable tablet mode in settings if you want that. However, all of your apps will run in full screen when you do this.
Alternatively, you can click and drag to resize the start menu to be essentially full screen. That may give you what you want while having everything in windows still.
Fear not. I played DS1 with DSFix and DS2 without issue.
I stopped using desktop shortcuts back in XP. I prefer to have my desktop minimal.

My update folder still sits at 60mb, does that mean i won't be running win10 tomorrow?

Anyone had any issues with the in place upgrade? I tried it with the beta/preview build a month ago and I never could get my wireless or lan to work, and they are separate hardware (motherboard and a card) with two different drivers. I would rather not clean install, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Just as a small disclaimer to those upgrading but my Xbox one controller is really wonky in Windows 10. It might just be me but I have to repair the driver constantly. I have been using the mayflash wii u controller since the Xbox controller keeps getting confused and mixes up buttons and thinks both triggers are the same input until I reinstall the driver

As a precaution, you may want to manually download any important Win10 drivers for your hardware before hand.

jesus now their own xbox one controllers start to go crazy with Win 10? anybody using their pc for gaming + using controller should wait for a fix .

my 360 controller still technically works. Though my left stock has some drift but that could be the controller. Xbone controller is hopefully just me but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Another issue is when playing street fighter 4 it recognizes the controller as player 1 and 2 so I challenge my self when I press any button
I've used mine several times over the last week with no issue. Just tried it again and it works perfectly.

I think I'll hold off updating to Windows 10 for a week or something. I want to make sure the transition from 8.1 to 10 will be as smooth as possible and that I don't have to put in a lot of work to make a thing working normally like it did before. I absolutely hate that. Seeing those probs with certain controllers makes me wonder if my arcade stick will work right off the bat.
