Upgrade to Windows 10?

Forget to ask - How does refreshing and choosing to remove everything works? It's not actually formatting your SSD/HDD is it?

Says my 980 Ti is not compatible, lol

Won't let me proceed with an upgrade due to that. I tried manually running the assessment tool and same thing.

Yup Known issue.
Need new Nvidia Windows 10 Drivers that will recognize the GTX980ti

Im not sure if 353.62 fix the whole 980Ti thing.
But if the PC you are trying to upgrade is connected to the net it should load up the latest drivers which should recognize the 980ti......else more waiting for drivers from Nvidia.

It is. I've been checking for updates for the last 2 hours to see if anything pops up but itfuckingnothing.gif mostly windows defender stuff. I formatted my computer 2 weeks ago.

By "all the different methods," I take it you mean making the ReserveWindows10.exe file and running it through an elevated command prompt? What happens when you do?

What's the cheapest way to get Win10 without the upgrade deal?

Might need one for another PC I'm building.

Depending on if you go to school or where you work, you may have DreamSpark or MSDN keys available which you could use.

In terms of buying it new from a legit source, Amazon looks like they have Windows 8.1 for $90 ($10 cheaper than Win10 so not a huge discount).

It formats the drive on which Windows is located, yes. I would highly recommend making sure you have a backup, or unplugging drives you wouldn't want touched.

Ok managed to get the windows 10 app come up and reserve my copy. Update centre says it's reserved and to await update. I should probably go to bed at this point. Does it download automatically? If so I'll leave my pc on overnight

You probably won't be able to update to windows 10 tommorrow. You will be able to update to Windows 10 eventually in the next few weeks most likely

I'll store Windows to a USB and unplug my HDD just in case

Thanks

So one guy says DS4Windows works for him, another says it doesn't. Can anyone shed any light on this? It's the only thing keeping me from upgrading.

DS4Windows works here (Jays2Kings Build 1.4.261 according the about/hotkeys screen), on Windows 10 Pro x64. The "exclusive mode" fails to work for me however, despite no steam or anything else loaded. I've only had to use exclusive mode for Dark Souls in the past, I don't know if that feature matters to you.

I've just upgraded windows 7 to 10 RTM. Then formatted, installed another SSD and set it up for RAID0. I installed a fresh copy of 10. It asked for a key 3 times till I finally landed on the desktop after pressing skip each time. And it's reporting Windows is activated. I did this all with local accounts too.

I also want to say that lots of things were broken on the upgrade. Nvidia drivers took a bit of time to work themselves out, the Win Key+ X menu shortcuts failed to function. Task manager was slow and overall it was much slower than 7. Fresh install is definatly needed it's much faster and less buggy.

Phamit thanks for sharing the rehost. I worry that people out there are going to post modified versions of this bat file that just deletes your computer. It's pretty shady just running bat files as administrator from unknown sources.

One PC had 5.43GB in the hidden folder, and the "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" command from the other topic seems to be working. My other PC only had 4.79GB in that folder (and has been sitting at that total for hours); on that one I tried the command but the update fails. Guess not everything's in there yet; gotta wait. :(

The GWX file? Nada happens :(

Have you tried this? Beware by clicking this link a zip file starts to download
http://www.hazoth.net/win10fix_full.zip

unzip in a folder of your choice,
copy the path to the file
start cmd in admin mode

press enter and then you have this

Windows-10-Icon-hinzuf%C3%BCgen-Batch-Datei-rcm960x0.jpg

my icon popped up after step two

I'm not sure if you've tried this already but give it a read, it might help.

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-get-the-windows-10-upgrade-icon-if-its-missing/

When I tried this the blue circle showed up next to my pointer so something was happening but the reserve icon never popped up. I tried method 1 and 2.

You don't really reserve anything, when you upgrade 7/8.1 the license is converted to win 10. So you need to install 7/8.1, activate and upgrade to 10 on the 29th. I think they said there is an issue with activation currently so you can't just upgrade to the tech preview and get the license converted as previously was possible.
Are there still people even running the tech preview though. The last big update got rid of the watermark, and my computer properties screen would have me believe I have a legit copy of Windows 10 with a product key and everything.

Almost...

My first text on reddit. If you failed by running setup.exe and this command (wuauclt.exe /updatenow) is not working to you need to DELETE all contents from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. Worked for me! Because of deleted BT content my updater didnt work (some errors on past updates in Windows 10 Update), now works!

Anyone with an Alienware laptop( i got myself a m14x r2 , with dell recommanded driver installed, not the latest nvidia one), can tell me if your system run windows10 fine? These screen up there( unless nvidia release a driver) start to scare the shit out of me.

Im using dells recommanded driver , because games on it run better than the newer drivers

Anyone know what will happen to my motherboard base RAID arrays with an upgrade? I have an 512 GB SSD boot drive, a 6TB RAID 0, and 4 drive 12 TB RAID 5.

You need to have the latest (Win10 ready) drivers.

I read a lot of posts about a fresh and clean install. Is it also possible to just upgrade your existing OS to 10 and retain all the settings, programs and files?
